Obnoxious Theme Music

After he first heard it, producer James Brooks stated that the Simpsons theme was “lemmings-marching-to-their-death music.” He meant this as a compliment, of course, but I see what he means.

Anybody with me on Friends, The Drew Carey Show, and Mystery Science Theater 3000?

I have to mention this in spite of the fact that the music per se isn’t obnoxious, but the way they insist on having the stuff play almost loudly enough to drown out the spoken words, and the way it adds to an already phony suspense, I must include Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? Dripping water or burning logs would make a better sound, as far as I’m concerned.

Grey’s Anatomy: Not quite obnoxious, but so inconsequential as to be unnecessary.

Did you know that song was called “You can count on me”? and has lyrics? I have an MP3 of Sammy Davis Jr singing it.

I love that theme! It’s a snippet of an actual song by an actual band, “Cosy in the Rocket” by Psapp. They are a bit twee, but they get some very interesting effects using children’s toy musical instruments.

Guilty as charged. It was way too catchy for me; I can’t stand walking around humming the theme music hours after a show has ended :o

BurnMeUp

I never knew that. I did a search for that song and located it here:
