Is anyone else having as much trouble getting onto the obscure store site as I am? I been a habitual member of the reading room and all of a sudden my book mark goes to “Forbidden” that I don’t have access.
I browse on my office (University) computer. Could my server have decided that it doesn’t like the obscure store any more? None of my other fave sites are forbidden…I even did a test and searched for some very inappropriate sites and they all loaded (and then some).
How do I get back into the reading room??
And it’s not just my computer…others in my office have same problem.
Is it the university server that’s saying I’m not allowed on? Can a server just ban a site like that? Taking obscure store away is like taking SD or the onion away–thoroughly not offensive and intellectually stimulating–not to mention very entertaining. Very very frustrated here… does this mean I have to work?
I get it fine. I think the server is forbidding access (at your end), probably based on what those in charge deem ‘inappropriate use of company time’. Your best recourse is to get online at home or at a library. Does your area have an internet cafe, perhaps? Or you could try this: The IP address of obscurestore.com’s server is 207.8.156.150 (periods and all). You might be able to type that address into your browser’s address space, getting you there if all the server looks at is the text address and not the IP address. It’s a long shot, but it may work. (BTW, if anyone’s interested, obscurestore.com is registered in St. Paul, MN to James Romesko and Robert M. Parker. Just thought you’d like to know.)
Oh, and if it is indeed an “error 403 forbidden”, it could also mean that the website has flood control on and is regulating the number of users on their pitifully under-powered infrastructure.
Underpowered - no kidding!! They’re server’s gotta be on what, half an ISDN line? (And I thought my place of employment was bad on one-half of a T1 line)
This is exactly what the message says:
Forbidden
You don’t have permission to access / on this server.
Apache/1.3.9 Server at http://www.obscurestore.com Port 80
So I don’t mind telling my server people (if that’s who’s blocking this) to cut this crap out. Of course the reading room is a legitimate news source. And if the guy in the cube next to me can download porn for his wall paper–hell yeah, I want my obscure store. What will they do next take away SD? If it’s flood control on the OS site, when should I try to get on? I’ll try emailing. I wanted to get their email…but… without getting o the web page finding it is tough! Thanks guys-- any info you have is greatly appreciated!
