Ladies, if you’re wearing a long skirt with a long slit in the back or slits up the sides… don’t wear knee high pantyhose!!
Men, if you’re wearing a white dress shirt and tie but no jacket and you happen to have really dark chest hair, please, for the love of all that is good, wear an undershirt!!
Saggy, low-slung breasts and strapless tops do not mix well. It is extremely disconcerting to see shoulders and a foot of bare chest above the top of your clothes. Your top should not start at your waist!
Also, the very belabored point of pantyhose with open-toed shoes. You know they’re making open-toed pantyhose now, too? I don’t know if that’s better or worse. What’s so bad about bare legs?
To my ex-roommate,
The reason why your jeans keep “wearing out in the crotch” is NOT because “no one makes good quality jeans anymore.” Your jeans are too small and the fabric is crying out for mercy as your thighs press it together relentlessly.
For the love of God, people, wear the right size. You are not fooling anyone. “Look! I can wear a size 6!” You are just displacing the rest of your body out and over the top.
Don’t wear a bra that is lumpy under a tight shirt. Don’t wear a dark bra with a light shirt. And for the love of God, people, don’t wear a bra with a tube top! Strangely, I see all of these things when I go to Wal-Mart.
I have a caveat to that one: in Seattle, at least, it is acceptable to wear white athletic socks with certain types of casual sandals (Birkenstocks & cousins), as long as your whole outfit is casual. And I don’t mean “khakis-and-buttondown-shirt” casual; I’m talking “shorts-and-t-shirt” casual. I’m sick of seeing people dressed for business from the ankle up, then wearing black socks and Tevas. Ick!
A friend of mine had to give a big presentation at work. He wore a white dress shirt. He did wear an undershirt, but it was a printed T-shirt. When he put it on, he realized you could see the printing through the front of the white dress shirt, so he wore the T-shirt backwards.
But since he was giving a big presentation, his back was to the audience for much of the time. And what did the T-shirt say on it?
