Obviously the Answer Is "Subtext", Right?

Right?

A number of years ago, we were doing the New York Times Sunday Crossword. One of the clues was “The _____ mightier than the sword.” 5 letters.

I think Will Shortz must’ve had the day off…

Yes. The other word you’re thinking of does not appear in the Scrabble dictionary and therefore wouldn’t qualify.

Also, it’s two words. :smack:

Brilliant. Everyone in my office has been playing Scrabulous on Facebook lately, so it really hits to the core of what we’re been up to. NOT LIKE THAT!

Rats! Coffee all over the keyboard again!

Rats on the keyboard? Yeah, you should do something about that.

What kind of work do you do? :dubious:
Heh.

Heehee.

Haha.

BWAAAHAHAHA!

Subtext.

Hee.

[sub]* What? It’s a funny word. Besides, what the hell else are you going to spell with the letters B-U-T-T-S-- - oh…[/sub]

 Oh my. I just got it.

Welcome to the party! Take a seat. It’s a comfy chair, yes?
hands you a small glass of champagne

:: sip ::

I mean, I saw the other word, but I didn’t realise that ‘subtext’ could also be formed…

I think the subtext is rapidly becoming text.

And yet another reason I handed in my “smart” card. I looked at the puzzle and immediately deciphered the word. Then I couldn’t figure out what the heck the “subtext” was. :smack:

When I saw the word, I couldn’t unsee it. I obviously spend way too much time on the Intertubes.
In my defense, my girlfriend also saw the same word.

Wow. I’m either a closet prude or … something. 'Cos I saw Subtext first (as directed by the thread title) and it took me a minute to see what the fuss was about.

Wait – no, please, don’t take my man card, I can do better! I promise! Look: Breastseses. Vajayjay. Buttoc-- I’LL KICK YOUR ASS IF YOU DON’T LET GO.

ahh, that’s so cute!

Never, ever read a thread like this after two days of little sleep because of the pain from a broken tooth. Vicodin does not help with reading comprehension.

I read this as: “I’ll LICK your ass if you don’t let go.” I didn’t see how that would be effective. Unless the other person really liked it and took pity on you.

I confess I read several posts in this thread before I figured out what was going on.

I am ashamed.
