#OccupyWallStreet

See question directed to Scylla. Assuming you aren’t going to faint.

“Darn those gays! Why do they make such a fuss about a few knifings in dark alleys and brutal beatings outside gay bars? Don’t they know that a major political party doesn’t officially want them dead?!”

Kerry, and Obama, and in fact every presidential candidate, Republican and Democrat have openly been against gay marriage.

Personally, I support gay marriage.
If your argument is that Democrats are less openly hostile, or more gay friendly than Republicans, than, sadly, I think you are correct.

If my party affiliation were determined by the single issue of gay rights, I would be a democrat. It’s not.

So, greater than 0? 1? 5? 100?

Are you seriously suggesting that the majority of people who are so homophobic that they want to seriously injure or kill gay men or lesbians are LESS likely to identify as Republican than Democrat?

It must be nice to have the option for it not to be. And before you mention LCR or GoProud, I have only pity and disgust for people whose wallet comes before their own person.

Serious question: Do you think those who would be likely to commit violence against gays (which does still happen in the country) would be more likely to be conservative or liberal?

I don’t think violent attacks against gays are politically motivated. Do you?

I don’t see how they aren’t, insofar as political ideology is a way of rationalizing hatred and biases.

You have he option to not live your life based on a single issue, just as I do.

I do 't understand what your last sentence means.

It’s not that they’re politically motivated. It’s that the Republican Party fosters an attitude that gays are perverted, or inferior. Michele Bachmann and her husband actually run a therapy business that purports (against all scientific evidence) to allow gays the opportunity to become straight because being gay is “part of Satan”. Rick Santorum thinks being gay is equivalent to fucking dogs. These are actual Republican presidential candidates!

Fucking iPad.

No, I don’t. This is an issue that goes to the very center of my being and determines whether or not I get to live my life as an equal citizen of this country. And one of the two major parties thinks I shouldn’t have that option.

Don’t you find it a bit odd conservatives, and republicans want to deny equality to a group of people for no other reason than either religious persecution, or outright stupidity?

What does that say about their reasoning ability in general?

You say an elephant is “vastly bigger” than a mouse? Well, how much bigger? A hundred times? A thousand? Is that a standard lab mouse, or a European mouse? A Harvard mouse or a MIT mouse?

The protesters get hurt every time . But if the police refused to go in, nobody would get hurt. The protesters are not doing harm. The cops are.

Yes. Al Sharpton was an actual Democratic presidential candidate. Can I attribute everything he says to all Democrats?

Anyway, you are not going to like his, but I respect their opinions without sharing them. If people aren’t happy being gay and seek to get “cured.” that’s sad, as sad in my eyes as a man or a woman who maims themselves to get a sex change. I think it’s a bad choice, but I recognize that it’s thir choice. So, I don’t agree with the Bachmans, but I don’t want o stop them.
As for Santorum, I’m not sure xactly what he meant, but i am familiar with he argument, and it’s various versions.

Basically the religious belief of some is that sex is primarily about reproduction. Sex for other purposes is a sin, though a venial one. Taking empty pleasure of the flesh is spiritually distracting, and really we should all have better things to do with our time. This belief makes no distinction between sex with a condom, masturbation, oral sex, homosexual sex, or sex with a dog.

Primarily, I think this argument is best used on 14 year old boys who have just discovered whacking off and do it about 15 hours a day, sexual addicts, and such.

In a response to questions about what he meant, Santorum seemed to be claiming this interpretation (though i on’t believe him)

Personally, I think there is more to you than being gay, and while I think there are real inequalities to be addresses, this kind dof hyperbole helps no one. Gays least of all.

In “general?”. In general I think that people who make such broad and sweeping generalizations as you have, are the ones who’s reasoning ability is questionable.
