October 18, 2025 "No Kings" Protests

I gotta tell you, the honking made all the difference in the world. If you can’t make it to a rally even if you could just drive by and honk… It’s so galavanizing to have that support.

Yup. As the axiom goes, for every soldier who fights on the front lines, there needs to be 1 person in the logistics/support.

Pics - Ferndale, Michigan

I added a line at the bottom of my sign (which was a piece of cardboard from a box and handwritten in Sharpie – about as cheap as you can get): “This sign was not paid for by George Soros”. That got a few laughs today.

Well done. Sounds like it was a great protest.

FABULOUS collection of pictures! Well done – thanks!

Re signs: I can’t remember if I read this here or in the comments to a NYTimes article, but this is apropos of trump saying that the protesters were paid. A guy said he saw a sign that read: “If I had been paid, I’d have a better sign!”

I love the humor on display.

Terrific event in Perkasie (suburb of Philly). There was a few hundred people. Lots of great signs and silly costumes. The speakers were very good. And I agree with @Spice_Weasel, the honking was awesome and spirit-lifting.

So nice to be with your peeps, with nary a nutjob to worry about. The energy was great. And I looked very dapper in my yellow Explorers t-shirt (go LaSalle!)…

Ferndale is a truly great town. It reminded me of my days as a student in Ann Arbor… You know, just being with my people. People who love art and culture and diversity and kindness.

My husband’s late grandma lived in Ferndale. At one point she complained that the gays were taking over, and he was like, “ok, sure Grandma.”

Then he went for a walk down Woodward festooned with rainbow flags and said, “Actually, Grandma’s right. The gays definitely are taking over!” :joy:

I live in deep red Macomb county and it was a welcome change. I’ll have to drive out there more often.

Good crowd and vibes here in La Crosse, Wisconsin. More honking horns in approval, more young people involved.

Definitely over 100k in downtown Boston today (lots of smaller events in other parts of Boston and suburbs). 100% peaceful. It was nice to see so many young people. The weekly standout I do is almost always me (a Gen-Xer) and a bunch of boomers. Perfect weather and it didn’t get overwhelming despite the Head of the Charles Regatta also being today. I got a parking spot at the good lot and didn’t have to go like station to station to find parking. I don’t think my kid had been in a crowd of that many people before, probably the biggest crowd was a Taylor concert, which, of course, was very big but not 100k big. I am thoroughly exhausted physically but mentally I’m pumped. It feels so good to be validated that you’re not alone.

Oh I like him very much. Thanks for sharing it.

I ended up at the Roseville rally. I intended to go to the Folsom one, but I couldn’t find it. It was very enjoyable. My sign said ‘Proud to be Anti-Fascism’ and I hung it around my neck. We had a lot of honking and cheering. There were a lot of blow up costumes. Some of my favorite signs:

They’re eating the checks, they’re eating the balances.
Fight Truth Decay

There were more, but I can’t remember them. I wore yellow and had some nice conversations with other ladies wearing yellow.

My favorite sign had an image like this t shirt

I was surprised there was a rally in La Crescent as well – apparently about 100 folks.
I haven’t seen crowd estimates for La Crosse.

Brian
p.s. in NYC there were ~100k and ZERO protest related arrests according to NBC news

Bellingham didn’t need two more people, so we went to Everson… which is decidedly in Trump Country. (I don’t know how many people were at the Bellingham rally, but the last one had thousands. They wouldn’t miss two.) I counted 175 ralliers there, not counting children, of which there was a handful. I saw a lot more one-finger salutes than at the freeway overpass rallies (didn’t see any at the Bellingham rallies, which didn’t have vehicle traffic), but one woman there said that this rally was less hostile than previous ones. We did get a lot of honks and waves and thumbs-up. The best part was when a small firetruck drove by and turned on its lights and siren, and the occupants waved. The following EMT van didn’t, but man it was nice to get the recognition from the firemen.

Are these planned every 6 months or something, then?

Has there been any violence so far? Given the bad actors from the extreme right it would be kind of miraculous.

That is spectacular.

I attended a protest here in a Southern California suburb. There was a lot of horn blowing, bells ringing, chanting, etc. I can’t stand loud noise for long periods of time for so I didn’t stay long. There were several people in silly inflatable costumes - my favorite was the guy who looked like he was riding on a chicken. Here are a few of what I thought were the best signs:

A enlarged image of the recent Time magazine cover that featured Trump with the words “for prision” at the bottom. (So the magaine title together with the words at the bottom read “Time for prision”.)

“Don’t cower before fascism” Sign was carried by someone dressed in a cow costume.

“The White Houses needs an enema. Flush out the turd reich”

“91 year old veteran always voted Republican. Never for Trump.”

I would estimate that there were about 300 - 400 people there. While this area is very ethnically diverse area the crowd was overwhelmingly White. There were a significant number of Hispanics (some with signs in Spanish) but only a handful of Black and Asian protesters.

After my local one went to the one in front of the ICE detention facility in Broadview, a suburb near west of Chicago. Not quite the same feel as our local one.

Big show of state police yielding batons and masks to try to intimidate the not huge crowd. No reason for it at all.
