Odd endorsement pairings

I’ve been seeing ads for Igloo products with special edition Slayer graphics on them. If you’re not familiar with Slayer, they are a legendary thrash metal band from the 80s. What they have to do with Igloo coolers I have no idea. I’m sure it’s related to the cooler/boombox, but it’s still kind of an odd pairing.

Seen any other endorsed or licensed products that strike you as strange?

I don’t know why they didn’t change those products to Reign in Ice!

They have other bands like Iron Maiden, Run DMC and Green Day, but also other oddities like Care Bears and Jeep. I think the Igloo marketing team makes bets on products they can create that you think won’t sell, but do sell (one of the Slayer products is sold out).

You know the Snuggy, that thing that’s basically a blanket with sleeves? Well there was an Official Weezer Snuggy.

I’ve seen Jeep Bicycles, which kinda breaks my mind.

Of course KISS (Well, Gene, I guess) sticks their name on everything. Even caskets.

I remember the jingle that was in the ad. It started off something like:

:notes:If you want to destroy my Snuggy :notes:

Snoop Dogg and Angry Orange Odor Eliminator:

Speaking of Green Day, the new Volkswagen commercial celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Golf is accompanied by “Good Riddance”. Now nothing against the Golf, my first car was a Golf 1 and later I was also happy with a Golf 3, but let’s face it, that always has been a car that stood for conformity and averageness, a car for squares. Way to go, young punks!

That makes me think of one of the best ad campaigns ever for the Golf’s sexier sibling, the GTI.

That’s hilarious :joy:. never seen these ads. The GTI though has always been a very different animal than the regular Golfs. But it reminded me that VW had another Golf (Cabrio, not GTI) campaign with cool music, Nick Drake’s “Pink Moon”. The spot even caused a minor Nick Drake revival.
