As my clock alarm was going off this morning I learned, much to my dismay, that Howard Stern is back on the radio in Phoenix on KZON (he was dropped from KEDG after they were bought by a Latin station). As I was reeling with the news I heard Stern talking about how he had been up against a morning guy at that same station by the name of Dave Pratt, who had been there for 20 years, when Stern was on the air in Phoenix before. Stern then mentioned how Dave Pratt had always been a big fan of his and had been trying to move to afternoon radio anyway, so he was not only gracious, but glad to move to afternoon radio and let Stern take his place in the morning. I found three things wrong with these statements:
- Dave Pratt was at KUPD for 20 years; he never worked at KZON.
- Note the use of the word “was” in point #1. Pratt left KUPD several months ago. I’m not sure if it was by his own choice or the station’s, but he ain’t there anymore, afternoon, morning or otherwise.
- Pratt’s use of such monikers as “Asshole Stern” while he was on the air indicates to me that he’s not really the fan Stern makes him out to be. Then again, this could be an on-air vs. off-air personality thing.
I’m wondering where the hell Stern got this story.
