Odd Man Out

A, because is a vowel. G T V are consonants.

:leo:

☿ = Mercury
♂ = Mars
♃ = Jupiter
♆ = Neptune
:leo: = umm… the sperm planet? (This is the odd man out.)

Repeating mine since no one’s got it yet:

Jethro Tull
Metallica
Nine Inch Nails
Queensrÿche
Soundgarden

Leo (constellation/sign)

Good guess … but not quite.

Camus for lots of other reasons. Camus was not a citizen of an English-speaking country. Camus was never party to any high level administrative policy discussion in wartime.

Is it not true that Camus won the Nobel prize for literature, and all the others for Peace?

Remember the rules— an answer only has to be correct, not necessarily the one the poser had in mind.

Jethro Tull, the others are all bands that were founded in the U.S.

I know it’s been answered, but let’s see if I get the original intended answer:

Oxygen. It’s symbol is O. The others all have two-letter symbols: Al, Fe, Si, Sn

Not my intended answer.
… But each of the answers presented here may be better than my intended answer. :smack:

Sorry, incorrect (though technically true.)

By the way, I’d like to propose a rule change for incorrect guesses. If someone makes a guess which is wrong, but technically true, the question-giver should have the option of changing one of his/her items, or add an extra one, so the previous guess is no longer true. (Obviously this will rule out wrong answers and may even give away the correct one, but since the goal is to figure out the list’s criteria, it’s all fair play.) For example, I’ll amend my own list to read thusly:

Jethro Tull
Motörhead
Nine Inch Nails
Queensrÿche
Soundgarden

How’s that sound?

I was trying to avoid a lot of back and forth exchanges, to keep it rolling wimp;ly and quickly.

I’d prefer that a person can give any answer that is supported by an explanation and is accurate/factual. The poser can then come back and either state what was intended, or can tweak the list in order to force the expected response.

Otherwise there will be too many cross-conversatijons going on about each contested list. . But if you guys want to do it, go for it.

True, but not what I was going for.

For an extra hint one of the series in the set includes installments that don’t fit the theme.

Is it because Life is Strange is a graphic adventure game, while the others are standard RPGs? (I think FF has a few sequels in that genre.)

I’ll add a name to mine, although I’m not completely sure she qualifies.

George Lazenby
Pope Pius XII
Conan O’Brien
Benjamin Harrison
Sarah Chalke

Sarah Chalke is odd man out. Everyone else is male.

Okay, then.

George Lazenby
Pope Pius XII
Conan O’Brien
Benjamin Harrison
Sarah Chalke
Diana Muldaur

(Muldaur doesn’t quite fit the list quite as well as some of the others, but could get people thinking in the right direction.)

George Lazenby was preceded and succeeded by Sean Connery in the role of James Bond.

Conan O’Brien was preceded and succeeded by Jay Leno as the host of the Tonight Show

Benjamin Harrison was preceded and succeeded by Grover Cleveland as President of the U.S.

Sarah Chalke was preceded and succeeded by Lecy Goranson in the role of Becky Conner (on Roseanne)

Diana Muldaur was preceded and succeeded by Gates McFadden in the role of the chief medical officer of the Enterprise (Star Trek: The Next Generation)

Pope Pius XII is the odd man out.

Alaska
California
Hawaii
Louisiana
Minnesota

Hint: it has nothing to do with the spelling or pronunciation of the names and it has nothing to do with what their capitals are.

Alaska, California, Hawaii & Louisiana are coastal; Minnesota is not.

You’re right. I just realized that and was about to clarify. That’s not what I had in mind though.

Nope. It’s nothing intrinsic to any of the games.

In fact, adding Gangan Comics to the list doesn’t change the theme as formulated.

All except Franklin D. Roosevelt were Nobel laureates (Einstein for physics; Marshall, Theodore Roosevelt, and Wilson for peace; Churchill and Camus for literature).
