Odd smell associations/resemblances

Wonder if the tea you’re drinking contains rose hips? That would explain that connexion.

Funny but I never had the BO/cumin connexion…I even went to my spice rack last night and sniffed my cumin, sad, huh?

I get this same association. I always thought it was because I’ve encountered so many people (often Indian or Mexican) with strong body odor whose BO happened to smell of cumin.

Earl Grey tea smells and tastes exactly like someone spilled perfume in my tea cup. I agree that cheerios smell like pee and while I never caught the parmesan/vomit connection, parmesan does smell like really old, gross shoes to me.

Whenever I’m brewing a pot of coffee at home, I find myself looking around for the pile of crap my incontinent dog must have left somewhere.

To my nose, it’s Romano cheese that smells like vomit.

This is a little different – whenever I hear anyone speaking Polish (or what sounds like Polish to me), what immediately comes to mind is the smell of the mashed potatoes and sauerkraut that were always on the stove in my Polish grandmother’s house.

I make the coffee / skunk association, but only if the coffee is the cheap variety. I have no idea why skunk makes my stomach growl, but the smell of any coffee makes me sick. Unless I’m the one drinking it.

Also, apple juice = cat pee

I have also noticed the Coke/cloves thing.

After I drink coffee my pee smells like tuna fish. I swear it’s the pee I’m smelling, and it’s only after I drink coffee, but if you still want to make fun of me I can’t say that I blame you.

Not sure if this is addressing the OP or not, but I can’t stand the smell of old popcorn. It smells like ass. I have no idea how people can eat cold popcorn in bags.

Corn Nuts and Funyuns are disgusting smelling as well. How people eat this stuff, I have no idea.

I think hard-boiled eggs are the most disgusting smelling food. They smell like bad breath. I have to move away from people who eat hard-boiled eggs at lunch.

BO to me, smells like honeybuns. But unpleasant honeybuns!

BO to me smells like onions, assuming it’s a fairly clean person who just forgot deodorant that morning. Old stinky bum BO, well, the smells like a litter box mixed with musty, mildewy laundry.

I have a lavendar air freshener that smells like cat litter. It kinda sucks, because it’s supposed to be relaxing, but it just reminds me of cat litter (clean cat litter, thankfully!)

My sister tells me that this is fairly common, especially with Huskies or dogs that have Husky in their ancestry. What’s up with that?

When I was growing up, my mom would occasionally boil parsnips. I remember coming home from school and entering the house to be walloped in the face by the BO smell.

When there was a pan of lasagna in the oven, my grandmother (who lived with us) would invariably say, “Did the cat do something in here?” (This has become one of those family catch phrases.) I guess she thought it smelled like cat urine.

And speaking of urine…you know that horrible old person smell of urine that has soaked into clothing? Sometimes, fresh peaches evoke that for me. I think that’s the reason I can’t stand peach-scented candles, bath products, etc.
