There are some people out there arguing that the PS2 is in its finest moment ever, and games like “Odin Sphere” make it easy to agree with them.
This game is beautiful - it’s mostly hand-drawn and sprite-based, just completely gorgeous and over-the-top 32-bit style. It’s an Atlus game, so you know what to expect, and it’s already incredibly addictive.
It’s a 2D action roleplaying game built around sequential stages, but it’s no hack-and-slash deal; each level requires a ton of strategy to pass, as you have to plant different items and cultivate the power ups that they sprout while slaughtering enemies to feed the plants. This is the one part of the game that’s going to drive me insane, I can tell; I’m used to RPG’s just giving you power-ups and letting you buy them, but this whole game is built around having to devote an equal amount of time to fighting and cultivating items.
Really great game so far, and I see that it’s getting great reviews.
