There is a theory about this which suggests the two of you were biologically well-suited for reproductive success. Goes like: your immune system dictates the sort of bacteria allowed to thrive on/in your skin. The bacterial mosaic influences how you smell. Your body odor, then, becomes an olfactory signature of the quality and preferences of your immune system. Genetic diversity is generally the key to robustness, so in seeking a potential mate you’ll naturally be drawn to someone who smells different from you, and repulsed by those with whom you are familiar, because their immune system preferences are likewise different from yours. Combining the genetic code for 2 very different immune systems leads to offspring with better immunity. I don’t know how well-researched it is, but it sounds good.
to other posts: Skunk smells like freshly harvested weed to me. It makes me uneasy, which is a good response to either situation I guess.
