OK, I lost a job a little less than two months ago. I found another job within a few weeks. The money wasn’t good, but at least it was an income while I looked for something better, and it was a friendly work environment, which lifted my spirits after the previous unpleasant experience.
Last week, I started getting that coming down with a cold feeling, thought I had beaten it with vitamins, zinc, echinacea and all that good stuff. Meanwhile, I found a better paying job. The cold boomeranged on me. I go for the drug test tomorrow. I feel lousy, my nose is running, I have a cough (well, the cough hasn’t gotten that bad yet), I have a low-grade fever, my ears are stopped up. Right now, my options are:
A) suffer
B) risk that the cold medicine I’m taking will show up as something illegal on the drug test.
Right now, I’ve decided to go ahead and take the cold medicine, but I’m going to lay off after this afternoon, probably have a couple of beers later, and start flushing my system out with water to get rid of the assorted metablolites from the cold medicine.
I’m very annoyed by this. I couldn’t call off work and baby myself when I first started getting sick because I’m in a probationary period, and now it looks like I’ll be starting a new job sick, and trying to function with a head full of cold medicine.
This is not good. I’m making my famous “witches brew” of warm water with garlic, lemon juice, honey and cayenne pepper. I hope that knocks the cold on its ass.
