Come Inauguration Day, Trump is supposedly going to do a shitload of amazing things per his campaign promises. Which ones are actually possible?
As many as every other presidential candidate’s amazing things they’ll do on Election Day.
It would be helpful to list just what they are, preferably with cites.
I’m guessing an ACA repeal will happen pretty quickly. Ryan and McConnell will probably have that on his desk within a week of the inauguration.
Trump has talked about repealing and replacing Obamacare, but he’ll probably say “we’ll figure out the replacement later,” sign the repeal, and that will be the end of it. The replacement talk has always been disingenuous. The GOP has had years to come up with a replacement and hasn’t done shit.
Can Obamacare be repealed by a mere signature from the president? I’m not sure it works that way.
By executive order he could refuse to enforce any penalty or provision associated with it and it and the ACA would be dead.
That’s a good question. The GOP seems to think it would be simple. I’ve read some of the previous Obamacare repeal bills, and they are generally quite short—just a few sentences. They simply say that the ACA is repealed, period.
I suspect that they’re going to find Obamacare more difficult to unwind than they expected. They’ll probably include some kind of transitional period in the repeal (no new enrollments, exchanges shut down in one year, etc.). But I can’t imagine Ryan or Trump saying, “whoa, let’s slow down and rethink this.” They’re going to try.
