Of Surprises and Desserts: A Parisian MMP

Pretty sure this is my first MMP post ever.

It’s a time for celebrating here in the city: on Friday, my girlfriend and I signed the lease on our first apartment together. It’s our favorite of all the places we saw during our apartment hunt, it’s in an outstanding Hell’s Kitchen location and we got a very good deal. We hope to be happy there for a long time. The rain held up over this past weekend, which allowed us to spend some sunny hours in the park where I tried to regain some guitar skills and was pretty successful. I also celebrated a friend’s birthday and did some karaoke over the weekend, and on Monday we saw David Byrne’s enormous show in Prospect Park. This feels like a great start to the summer.

Welcome, Marley, just head in. The munchies are in the kitchen. We’ll forgive you the donations for the first post but only cos you must bring them in the second one

Do I smell jackboots in the MMP?

We’ll welcome you anyway, Marley, but the standard entrance bribes may be higher for a mod. We’re still nice, dammit.

Anyone got 2 goats?

I made whoopie pies and brought them in for a coworker’s birthday today. It’s the first time I made them, and I made them small ('cause you know how coworkers are always like “I just want a small one.”), but overall they turned out really well. Nicely chocolatey and marshmallowy.

Congrats on the new apartment, Marley!

I don’t feel like doing any work today. Can I go home now? kthxby

Goats? Not that we’ve had a precedent for mods, but shouldn’t we go with something slightly smellier? I vote for donkeys, personally.

(I keed, I keed… welcome, Marley, and congrats on finding a great apartment - I hear those aren’t too easy to come by in your part of the world)

gt, I think I gained ten pounds from just looking at the photo of the creme brulees and the panna cotta. But where the rest of the food?

taxi, you’ve inspired me to try out that bacon cake. I have to admit I’m a little leery of making bacon desserts after the failure of the bacon ice cream experiment, but if you say it’s that good, then I’ll take a chance. Conveniently enough, I do need a dessert for a dinner party on Sunday.

In other news, my daily [del]scream-fest[/del] conference call with the vendor has now been scheduled to run through to Thursday and possibly into next week. AAARGH. On the bright side, it means I get to carpool with The Angry Russian and Her Boy for a few more days, which is always entertaining, but other than that… let’s just say this falls somewhere between jabbing myself in the eye with a rusty spoon and doing a swan-dive into a pile of jagged glass as far as the Fun Factor is concerned.

I hate the burbs. Grrrrr.

Muppet, have you smelled goats? There’s a picture of a herd of goats in the dictionary, under “pungent.”

You have some… interesting descriptions of pain.

Happy Tuesday! My office is normally a meat locker, but this morning, it was an oven. I thought someone accidentally turned on the heat but it was merely lack of air conditioning compounded by a bazillion computers cooking all night. We’re not supposed to turn them off at night because updates are pushed after hours, plus they do backups and stuff. Anyway, it turned out to be a stuck door of some sort that allowed the system to over-pressurize and turn itself off. But by 10, I was wearing my jacket again, and all was right with the world.

There were a bunch of thunderboomers early, and more forecast this evening. There’s talk of hail - glad I park indoors…

I came home and mowed the grass, fed my veggies and flower boxes, and watered the flower boxes (they’re under cover, so they don’t get benefit of the rain.) I also brought in the dirty BBQ grill parts - they’re soaking in hot soapy water, and I should probably get on them now.

Welcome, Marley. I’m sure it’s a mere oversight that you didn’t send chocolate love offerings to me yet. It’s not exactly a rule of the MMP, but it is expected… As a show of respect and stuff. Congrats on the apartment - are you hiring movers or do you have easily bribed friends??

Well, the zoo needs to be fed. Back later.

You should! I recommend less sugar than the original recipe called for. I think I used 1 cup in the cake instead of the 1 1/4, and KT said I should use less in the topping as well. But he doesn’t like stuff really sweet so if you have a super-sweet-lovin’ bunch to feed, keep the extra sugar in.

You know, I really do like my job. But there are days when I just don’t feel like doing work - generally days when there’s no deadline, nothing’s due, and it’s just long-term projects to work on. I hate long-term projects.

Just came back in from lunch to find the building is tweeting. Not the mini-message thing with cell phones, but well and truly tweeting and chirping with a multitude of birds resting or nesting in the ivy that hides the windowless second level of the building.

Still getting used to the new camera. Think I knocked off about 460 shots over the weekend. I have found that if I stop, think, compose and pay attention to everything like what the camera is using as a focus point, I get stunning images. It’s the “shoot on the run” pictures that come out somewhere between “Eh, OK” and “Awww…delete it.”

I may have bit off more than I want to chew… A friend who’s starting up a new Ren Faire might want to snag me as their official “limner” (a Faire-ism for photographer that sounds a little better than the kitschy “Flemish Painter”) - not sure what sort of commitment that would involve.

cleaning cleaning cleaning. Why you ask? Because the housekeeper is coming tomorrow, duh!

Actually it’s the first time in years that we’ve had a housekeeper AND IT SHOWS!!! Much decluttering to be done!

I see all the “I like my coffee black…” jokes have been disposed of…

Almost 1 AM. Still working. Thankfully, from home. Le sigh

Muppet, is your vendor in Israel? If so, count your blessings – it means you’re getting Friday off from having the Conference Call

Hi Marley! Don’t leave Jackboot marks near the hot tub, 'K?

Tired :frowning:

Huge thunderstorm here. I drove in it because I am the Queen of Driving in Stupid Situations. Actually, I got caught in it coming back from the car fixin’ place. I have new brake rotors and pads installed. Just in time!

I think it’s time to play some Simpsons Hit & Run.

T-storms moving thru. We went to Salsa’s for supper and left just before the sky opened. There were a few crashes of thunder really close, but now most have moved away. But the temp has dropped to the mid-60s, so the house is open again. Fresh air - yum!!

Just gave **FCD **a haircut. By that, I mean I ran the electric hair cutter thing over his head till all the hairs were about an eighth of an inch long. He’s happy.

Looking forward to tonight’s rerun of last night’s Colbert Show - from Iraq. Should be fun. Also looking forward to ice cream. Soon. Yeah.

TV Party Tonight! I ordered a 32" LCD off of [del]Tiger Direct[/del] CompUSA, and I just got it.:D:D:D I just gotta figure out how to connect my Atari 2600 to it.

A mod in the MMP?!?! @#^#$@! Hide the contraband! Welcome Marley, and congrats on the apartment.
Soapy, I’ve never been to Paris, but when they slapped the sales tax on liquor, I did stand up and scream “To the barricades!”

gt, great pics and OP. Remindes me of my visit to Munich in '87.
Papa Johns is on the way, 15 minutes till puck drop, Let’s Go Wings!

Hey, Marley, nice to see you stop by. I’m glad to see lots of positive stuff going on in your life; I know you’ve had more than enough family stress. (How’s your brother, by the way?)

The bike ride we took was to Böblingen, Shibb. We drive by Kirchheim all the time to visit family (FABF’s in-laws are near Heidenheim); also, I spent four months in Eislingen (just outside Göppingen) about a million years ago.

Yes, southwestern Germany looks quite cheerful and tidy, doesn’t it, Puggy.

Glad it reminded you of your Oma’s, Taters.

Eeep on all the thunderstorms, Spaz and FCM. They keep telling us it’s going to rain, but it hasn’t yet.

Got home and took a nap almost immediately. Now I need to get a bunch of stuff done…

Hugs to all I missed. Off to work on the next installment…

GT

Storms have subsided, but it’s still cool and comfy. About to head to beddy-bye. Full speed ahead to hump day!

Is it Firday yet?

I forgot to welcome **Marley; **sorry about that. Welcome! I’m glad positive things are happening in your life.

Work was work, as usual.

The commute sucked, as always. The traffic just seems to become worse and worse. It doesn’t matter what route I take, it takes an hour to go 17 miles.

I guess I should figure out what to cook for dinner. I’m not hungry, but I’m sure the hubby is.

Paris and Germany sound divine, GT! I am glad you had such a good time. Too bad about your luggage, though.

Two down, three to go. Woo and hoo.

Og yes, we had more t-storms this evening. They hit here first before heading down towards FCM’s way.

That bacon coffeecake appears to be calling my name … to make it this weekend, that is. LOL It sounds very delicious, thank you taxi and Muppet! Oh hey, party at Doggio’s! Just watch out that the pets don’t trip you up. And speaking of which, hope that everyone’s pets are in good health!

Onward to Firday! (Thanks, FCM!)

Posting from my hotel room in lovely Virginia, after a delicious prime rib dinner.

Spent the day in Yorktown on a much-needed break. Mostly hung out in a pub and watched a terrific thunderstorm come up over the James.

Tomorrow, work in the morning and the afternoon at the Chrysler Museum in Norfolk.

After that, more pub hijinks, no doubt.

I like it here!
