Official Buffy Musical CD-- Anyone seen it?

I’ve heard of release dates on the 17th and 24th of September, but have yet to see a copy in stores.

Does anyone physically have a copy that they didn’t rip?

Yep - bought it yesterday in Border’s. Have to exchange it though - it skips. I think it was officially released yesterday.

My thoughts :

It was very amusing to get the full parking meter song - although nothing can beat “THEY GOT THE MUSTARD OUT!”

Didn’t like the pics they chose for the insert - thought they could have done better.

Loved Joss’ notes.

Fell in love again with “Under Your Spell” and “Walk Through the Fire”.

Of course, once I get a non-skipping version of the CD, then it will go on constant rotation in car and at home.

Susan

Is it available to purchase in Australia yet - I havn’t seen any sign of it but thought others might know.

hope they don’t delay the release to coincide with Buffy season 7 startingup here.

I picked up a copy yesterday.

Love it! And I agree with susan, Joss’ notes are hilarious.

I so want this.

It’s on Amazon, too, folks.

Mine skips, too. But there aren’t any noticeable scratches on the surface of the disc, so, since someone else said their new one skips, I’m wondering if it’s an epidemic. Anybody else have skipping problems with their CDs? Mine tends to skip during Sweet’s song and in the middle of “Where do we Go?”

I’d talk about how much I like it, but I find it difficult to discuss things that aren’t directly me-related.

Picked up my copy yesterday…

I wish it had more dialogue from the show, to be honest. I would have been fine with the entire show in an audio format. But the montages from Hush and Sacrifice are pretty good too.

Am I spoiled because it’s only 60 minutes long and I want more?

Just bought it yesterday. I’d forgotten how much fun it was hearing Anya go heavy metal on the bunnies.

And does JM sound incredibly sexy singing “Rest in Peace”, or does JM sound incredibly sexy singing “Rest in Peace”?

Actually sounds better without the lip syncing.

OOC, where have you people been finding this CD?

Went out last night, and neither Best Buy nor Borders had it, and our local B&N doesn’t carry audio CDs. :frowning:

I’ll probably end up getting it from Amazon, if all else fails, but that doesn’t really satisfy my immediate gratification tendencies…

KKBattousai,
I got mine at Tower Records. They also had it at Fred Meyers. (You’re in Seattle, right? Do they have Freddie’s there?)

A friend of mine got it and says his is skippy as well. Is this a problem with most of them?

I don’t know if it’s a problem with most of 'em, or just my bad luck, but I took my really skipperiffic one back and got one that still skips! But it only skips once, so now I’m thinking I’ll just live with it, 'cause if I take it back, I might get one that’s worse…

Mine doesn’t skip. Probably a bad batch got sent out somehow.

Yup, they do. Moot point now, though, since AudreyK, the world’s best roommate, picked up a copy at a better stocked Borders today.

And I thought Fred Meyers was a grocery store. Shows what I know, huh?

I had to ask where in heck it was located. In both stores I went into, I had to navigate a labyrinth to find “TV Soundtracks”…

No no no, Freddie’s has everything. That’s where I do 90% of my shopping.

Anyway, something I was thinking about last night as I listened to the disc (as I’ve done nearly every night since I got it)…This CD has changed somewhat my opinion of Sarah Michelle Gellar.

Now, I think she is a very talented actress, and a perfect Buffy. I can’t imagine anybody doing a better Buffy than she does. But on a personal level, I was kind of ambivalent. I’ve heard stories that she can be pretty bitchy, a bit annoying to work with. And, IMHO, FWIW, I don’t even find her that attractive. So while I love Buffy the character, Sarah the actress I can pretty much take or leave.

But this disc changed that a bit, and here’s why…

It turns out the cast of Buffy has a pretty high level of singing talent overall. Some of them—Amber Benson, James Marsters, Anthony Head—have really good voices. Very talented singers. They could probably be professional singers if they wanted to.

And some of them—Nick Brendon, Emma Caulfield, even little Michelle Trachtenberg—have pretty decent voices too, and reasonable talent. They could be quite good if they had the inclination, and worked at it a bit.

Then there’s Sarah. Well, the girl just doesn’t have a very good singing voice. It’s too shrill and nasal. Not too annoyingly so, not so it’s painful to listen to, but it’s clear she made the right choice going into acting instead of singing.

But nevertheless, she sings her little heart out on that disc. And she has some pretty intense, emotional numbers. And despite her not-stellar voice, she soldiers on anyway and actually makes it work. I have to respect that. So she goes up a notch in my estimation. Good for you, Sarah, not letting the team down . (And Joss really wanted to do a musical Buffy.)

(Note: You may have noticed I didn’t mention my very favoritest person in the cast, Alyson Hannigan. I love her, but alas, she really can’t sing. But she’s not so vital to the story as Sarah and so, mercifully, they only make her croak out a few lines. (“I think this line is mostly filler”:)) It’s okay, I’ll still marry her when she gets around to asking…)

Err, sorry 'bout this, but the hamsters took my post without bumping the thread, so…

bump

Bloody rodents.

Actually, I think Nick’s voice is pretty flat and bad at singing-- just like mine, come to think of it…

“This is my line, helloooo”
