OFFICIAL Third Debate 10/19/16 Thread

Huh. Who’s she again?

Much more American than the other show. (Go, Cubs!)

Trump will make Hillary uncomfortable as he did in the last debate and the raging white nationalist hooligans who probably give each other high fives on social media tonight. I predict his crescendo will be claiming that Hillary Clinton murdered four Americans in Bengazi and we’ll probably hear Bengazi Mom yell something from her seat but it’ll just be more theater. About the only thing that can hurt Hillary would be a Cruz Bustamante moment.

I know this is nitpickery, and definitely off-topic but you used the word ‘crescendo’ incorrectly. Crescendo is not the peak, pinnacle, or top of a thing, it is rather the rise itself.

To your point, I agree that Trump will try to turn the debate into a reality show and attempt to throw Hillary off her game with tangential nonsense. I hope Wallace will rein him in but I am not confident it will happen. FOX does have an agenda and Wallace knows where his bread is buttered so…

I know I’ve got the game on now. I feel it’s my duty as a member of the voting public to watch the debate even though I’m 99% of who I’ll vote for and I can’t think anything that could occur during the debate that will chance my mind. I’m sure the game will be more uplifting a life affirming even if the good guys lose. I guess I’ll see where the game is and make a decision in half an hour.

Go Dodgers!

Watching the pre-debate on CNN right now, and some people–presumably Trump supporters–in the crowd around the panelists have been yelling loudly and constantly for the last several minutes–and even using noisemakers–to disrupt the discussion. Anderson Cooper and the rest have been fighting through it and not acknowledging it, but you can tell they’re annoyed. Trump has really riled up his deplorables against CNN.

So he didn’t double down on the drug test huh? What the hell was the point of even suggesting that outside of just riling up his supporters?

I think Trump is solely concerned with his supporters and seems to truly believe he will win with just his base.

No, you’re absolutely right - nitpickery welcome.

I hate to engage in “both sides”-ism but where would the side “his bread is buttered on” be? In the early part of the year my mom tuned into Fox by mistake and, even though she hates the channel, watched it for the better part of the half hour without realizing it because they were so anti-trump. Have they changed so much in the last 8 months that their bias would be visible? (I honestly don’t know, I haven’t watched Fox in the meantime)

As fun (& also depressing) as that would be to watch; it won’t.

“Somebody get that poor man a blanket; he’s freezing.”

I have no evidence to back it up and I might be 100% wrong on this, but given that Trump has been exposed as a creep and a not-so-great business guy, anything that the deplorables do at this point just reinforces the negatives. I actually think that these antics, using the bullhorn, trying to intimidate people who disagree with them is actually compounding Trump’s problems. The talk about throwing people in jail and saying there’s going to be a revolution scares the piss out of anyone who’s not a white christian nationalist gun toter. A disturbingly high number of people in this country are voting for Trump – that’s true. But I think the tactics are so in-your-face polarizing that they are motivating middlers to take sides - and not his. I guess my point is, this could actually have down-ballot consequences.

At best FOX is schizophrenic, with some hosts completely in the bag for Trump (eg, Hannity), some on the fence (eg, O’Reilly), and some clearly not a fan (eg, Kelly).

What do you men “try to turn the debate into a reality show”?

I predict a lo to of “Wow, I was surprised Chris Wallace was as tough on Trump as he was!!” on this MB after the debate. Does anyone really believe that HRC would have agreed to have a right-wing shill as a moderator for one of the debates?

Time to turn on the TV.

Megyn Kelly and Shep Smith have been giving Trump a hard time for a while as I understand it. Even O’Reilly has called him out about a few things I think.

Hannity and the dips on Fox & Friends on the other hand however are his cheerleaders as you would expect.

I hope I am one of those who says this post-debate. My fingers are crossed.

I predict he will go after the moderator almost as much as he goes after Clinton. Any question he doesn’t like will be evidence that the debate is rigged against him.

Popcorn’s poppin’.

I’m following my usual protocol of turning on PBS, muting it with the captions on, and reading the discussion here. I can’t handle too much reality all at once. I need a buffer.

Beer’s poured.
