I know right? Who leaves a voicemail without texting first?
Well sure, now they’re backtracking.
There is a Youtube video of the local GOP chairman showing the burned out office. He mentions sample ballots that were destroyed, about 2500 of them. But that is not the same as completed absentee ballots. Perhaps this is where the confusion arises.
Sample ballots are put out by elections offices, blank of course, to hopefully help inform voters and speed up the voting process. But sample ballots are also put out by partisan organizations showing which candidates their organization prefers. Nothing illegal about it.
Related solely for Shits and Giggles: While reading about this incident on the most alt-right, Zero Hedge Breitbart-oriented forum I know, one of the hardcore participants in the discussion said he “hoped it wasn’t a Trump or GOP supporter. The wording of the spray painted message just doesn’t sit right.”
It did make me laugh. Bitterly, of course.
But aside from disliking the wording, he apparently took for granted that it might have been a false flag operation. Nice. (No wonder your laughter was bitter.)
(The wording definitely was weird: “get out of town, or else”…who, other than someone who’s been in suspended animation for fifty years, would use such an old-timey threat?)
:dubious:
Musta been secret Muslims.
Well, here’s some interesting additional info.
Apparently the same night the Orange County Republican Party office was firebombed, the Orange County Democratic Party Office had “Death to Capitalism” spray-painted on its building in Carrboro. Not getting much coverage since no violence involved, but interesting coincidence, no?
Facebook (this is to the Orange County Democratic Party Facebook page, which has a post mentioning the vandalism).
The one nagging coincidence is the stilted and inauthentic tone of the graffiti. Aspenglow’s correspondent from the outermost edge of batshit had, apparently, a similar reaction that many of us do.
“Down with Capitalism”? Seriously? The Trotskyists have turned against Trump?
On the surface, it seems to me that if one party controls the Board of Elections in any given county, voter fraud using absentee ballots would be facilitated, if not just plain easy.
Trump’s drumbeat that his opponents have ‘rigged’ the election promotes a number of actions, encouraging Republicans to not only prevent voter fraud by the other side through whatever tactics are available, but also, to engage in fraud on behalf of the Trump and Republican candidates.
“Down with Capitalism” sounds like something a Bernie supporter would write. Or perhaps more accurately, something a Bernie-supporter-imitator would write.
As an outside observer (Canadian) there is an awful tone of dishonesty and uncivility to this election, led by Trump, that obviously can’t be directly attributed to the firebombing. But I think that an “all bets are off” mindset is being approached, if not crossed. And that is scary.
We, in the west, generally choose to limit the negative behaviours in our discourse but I fear that, given the right circumstances, that could go out the window and I fear that that could happen in the US.
The “Down with Capitalism” graffiti was actually “Death to Capitalism”. And was painted on the Democratic party’s HQ, not the Republican’s.
As hard as it is to make sense of any of this election, it makes even less sense when we garble the few actual facts of the case.
“Death to Capitalism” is worse in terms of being stilted and artificial. And thanks, but I was already pretty sure about where it happened, because there was one in one party, and one in the other, and, basically, there are just two.
I thought capitalism was heartless and soulless, so how can it be killed?
I suspect that in 2 years, Trump the Frog (or something like it) will be the new Pepe the Frog. But possibly dual-purposed as a symbol of ridicule, as you mentioned.
Perhaps like a vampire: with silver bullets or a stake through the heart. Preferably administered by a virgin beauty pageant contestant molested-but-not-quite-raped by a Trump?
