Oh fercrissakes...more snow!

So. Cal. Dry. Clear. Sunny. Lather, rinse, repeat.

Somebody want to trade with me? I spent Thurs-Sun in Cleveland LOVING THE HECK out of the snow and it made me sad to have to leave. Personally, I’d live in a climate that got snow 10 months out of the year, happily. (And yes, before you say anything, I have lived places where it snows. And my mom loves snow, too, and she grew up in New York (state) so yes, it is possible to both have experience with snow AND love it more than any other kind of weather)

In (my neighborhood of) Northeast Ohio, I am surprised any year that we get to May 1 without a 12" - 20" (or deeper) snowfall in the previous 30 days. Typically, the weather gets into the 40s and 50s at the beginning of April and then we get one last shot from winter that dumps a huge pile of white on us one day and begins melting away about 9:00 a.m. the next morning as the sun comes out and the temperature goes back up to 50° F.

Not this year. On Wednesday, April 4, I was mowing my lawn in 77° F sunshine at 7:00 p.m. By midnight, the temperature had fallen to 47, dropping to the low 20s by early the next moring. It snowed off and on all day, and then we began getting December snows–4 - 8 inches each day. By Sunday, (after a 6 1/2 inch overnight snowfall), we had accumulated over 30 inches of snow with no melting at all. Just a few miles away, down near samclem’s neighborhood, they only got about an inch and a half for the whole period.

I’m used to having that one overnight blizzrd. It does not seem like Spring without it. But having to shovel snow every day for four days (and even shoveling a path to the barn because it is accumulating faster than I can pack down a path) in the middle of April is just odd.

By Tuesday the sun was out, the temperatures were up, and about half of my lawn is green again. The 30 inch mound of snow on the patio furniture is down to about 2 1/2 inches. THIS looks like April.

April is THE hottest month of the year in Thailand. Almost no rain until the monsoons return in another couple of months, too. BBC reported on Tuesday that it’s been hitting 45 degrees Celsius every day in Bangkok. That’s 113 degrees Fahrenheit! Feels like it, too. And high humidity. Really miserable here right now.

Holy crap. I’m a summer person, but I think I’d almost rather have the snow.

Not the best shot, but there ya have it.

Bangkok had a nice little shower - “mango showers” are what the little dry-season rains are called – that cooled it off some … until tomorrow.

I can’t get the link to work.

Geez, that sucks though -far west suburbs here and I had people call me at 4 am to ask if school was going to be cancelled.

For about an inch of slush? Uh, no.

That should work. Yeah…not much volume, but it’s super heavy…and windy.

Holy crap. We have nowhere near that kind of snow here, it’s slushy but not sticking and not even deep enough to cover the grass.

I know! It’s insane! The Tree Dudes are out there wingin’ snowballs at each other. I hope no one comes running in waving a bloody stump.

California, central valley. Kind of late for rain. 1/3 in so far today, so not too much to argue about. Any day that lets me not turn on the heater, the AC, and the water for the yard is OK in my book. I’m a cheapie.

Sympathy for everyone having the extreme weather.

Okay…what the fuck! A 15-ft top of a 40 ft pine tree just fell on the other side of the house! RIGHT IN FRONT OF MY WINDOW HERE! I’m a’scared! Hold me!

That’s a typical summer temperature in Southern Arizona, where I’m from. Perhaps knowing that would help explain why I love snow so much

Ugh!
I was supposed to send out 16 packages from auctions today. I loaded them up in the car, drove to the post office, and looked. There’s like thirty steps up from the road to get to the front doors. On a nice day, this wouldn’t be bad. I have slightly less than Kalhoun, but it’s slushy, and nasty. I had homeless bedraggled hair within minutes of being out in it. And to top it off, I nearly slid off the road. Screw it. I’ll mass email and tell them one more day won’t hurt.

Well, at least the tree guys are still there.

We’ve had a nasty season. Got dumped on in late December and all of January. I didn’t see grass in my yard until about March 1st. March was pretty nice, but it snowed continuously from Thursday night until Sunday afternoon. All the outdoor Easter services were cancelled. Now they’re saying a big storm is coming in Thursday afternoon through Friday. 6-12 inches. Then 60 degrees on Saturday.

Springtime in the Rockies!

Yeah. UNDER the tree.

Here are my pictures from the snow over the weekend: http://gallery.opalcat.com/gallery/Easter2007

Hey, Kalhoun , if any news crews show up to film the carnage - let us know so we can catch you on the news, 'k?
