Is anyone else watching this? Oh, my god, it kills me dead. Blair Waldorf is so awesome/hilarious, and I want her babies.
I just started watching a couple weeks ago and have completely devoured it. Would’ve watched it much faster except that I accidentally got my girlfriend just as addicted along the way, so now she won’t let me watch it without her
Anyway, so far I totally love Blair, Serena is gorgeous if a little dumb, Dan is hot and a good guy but so smug and self-righteous it is sickening, Nate is vacant but beautiful and also a pretty good guy, Chuck is… freaking Chuck, and Jenny will likely implode under the weight of her own brattiness. Lily is second only to Blair in her awesomeness, and Rufus needs to stop with the tacky faux-western shirts. Blue jean shirt, dude? Seriously??
But yeah, this show is crack. Bratty, obnoxious, delicious crack.
Anyone interested in a weekly thread? This one can double for this week’s, if so.
PS-- Blair and Serena are so gay for each other it is ridiculous and I LOVE IT.
Yes, although I’m ashamed to admit it, Hallgirl1 got me hooked on Gossip Girls. Why, I’m not really sure. I’m now into about my fifth week of it and seriously considering searching out the episodes I’ve missed from the beginning.
I’m really liking it this season because of the greater focus on Blair and Chuck’s schemes, which are always fun to watch. Plus, Leighton Meester has really come into her own as a comic actress, which was largely absent from the first season. The thing you have to understand about this show, those of you who haven’t watched from the beginning, is that they really don’t give much attention to character consistency. (Serena saved Jenny from rape at Chuck’s hands in the first ep – now they’re all pals.) Vanessa in particular exists solely to be placed in the way of whatever relationship in in focus this week. But you just got to go with the flow and not let it bother you.
Oh, yes, phall, you must. The internet is your oyster.
Cliffy, I’m not sure if I agree that Leighton wasn’t embracing the comedic angle the first season, as it was Blair’s snark that got (and keeps) me hooked in the first place-- but we do at least agree that she’s great at it now, and oh, is she. I think she fully realizes the ridiculousness of her character and takes advantage of that in every way. She owns that shit. Moments like the epic couch-scooching of last episode? No other actor on that show could pull it off. I don’t know how Blake Lively kept from cracking up in that scene.
I do enjoy the machinations of Chuck and Blair, and I like when they work together, but man, I hate that romance. I can’t explain why, but god, it puts me off. I guess because he was set up as a cold, calculating bastard from the first episode, and then they tried to give him this warm and fuzzy side, which I just don’t buy. I can see him enjoying the conquest and toying with Blair, but nothing beyond that.
Actually, I can’t stand Dan/Serena either, or Nate/Vanessa, or… really ANY canon couple in the show. The romantic dialogue is always so sappy and ridiculous, whereas the rest of the dialogue is witty and awesome, so I much prefer it when everyone’s fighting.
