Oh, klahoma! Another religious debate

From today’s NY Times: It seems the Okla. House of Representatives have passed legislation REQUIRING public school science books to say that “human life was created by one God of the universe.” The bill will be reviewed by a joint House/Senate committee.

OK, set loose the dogs with bees in their mouths—

Blech.

in your pants, there was always a mist-filled alley
right around the corner.

So apparently they have so much money in their state coffers that they are willing to spend it frivolously defending a lawsuit that they will lose.

If I were an Oklahoma taxpayer, I’d be really pissed off for at least two reasons.

Eve, you do think of the fun-nest things to talk about!

Jesus!!..oh, wait…I mean…well, yeah–Jesus!!.

Oh yeah–Great Debates forum…(ahem).

Well, on one hand I think that whoever voted to pass this measure is an idiot.

On the other hand, I feel strongly, that whoever voted for this measure is a coward–more concerned with securing the votes of a religious constituency than with acting like a rational human being.

Ignorant since 1972

Let us thank God (or fate, or the Invisible Pink Unicorn, or your personal gratitude object) that Supreme Court Justices tend to be better educated than the Oklahoma House of Representatives.

BTW - does the IPU have a creation mythos/science?

I believe it spewed to universe forth from it’s horn. But I’m really not sure…(I seem to have misplaced my holy books)

I’m honestly having trouble believing that the legislature would pass a bill like that. I mean, even the Kansas one was vaguely understandable given that the people involved had a strong christian background. This on the other hand is simply incomprehensible.

Anyone else reconsidering their positions on euthanasia here?

Profanity is the crutch of the inarticulate mother-fucker.

No, but I’m starting to advocate the easing of requirements of secession/explusion from the United States.

…and the cretins in Oklahoma begat a cretenous bill… and the sheep of Oklahoma believed that it was good…

I think that they should take the next obvious step and legislate that the world is flat and put an end to all this circumnavigation nonsense…

Morons, morons, morons. One and all. (Shakes head and leaves the room…)

ROFLMAO! Classic! TMR, great quote! That’s all I have to say. Oh, and the bill is about as dumb as an educationally challenged brick.

Cecil said it. I believe it. That settles it.

How silly can you get? Everybody knows that there were 3 gods involved in the creation of humanity. How can they miss the mark by that much?

Gee, I don’t think any of us expected him to say that.

ok, this is REALLY REALLY embarrassing under the circumstances. A smilie won’t even come close. But…

<quick look around for clear path to run>

Not all Okies are sheep. And we don’t all believe this garbage. And yeah, a lot of us are pretty pissed every time the pols pull this kind of crap. If for no other reason than that IT’S SO FRIGGING HUMILIATING when it hits the national news.

Didn’t Oklahoma hit the news a few months ago for having the highest percentage of churchgoing folks and divorces in the nation?

To use a phrase borrowed from Shayna, this really chaps my hide!

Why only human life? What’s wrong with cats and dogs? And why isn’t this in geology text books? Where did the earth come from then?

In my opinion, they’re only doing a half-assed job.

I’m willing to bet that the OK Senate won’t pass it. No need to get our undies in a wad quite yet.

God damned creationists.

“Scientific creationists are part of a movement that seeks to establish through government policies a particular religious doctrine contrary to the principles of the United States Constitution. The movement is strongly authoritarian, patriarchal, militaristic, and opposed to public support of social welfare programs. This New Religious-Political Right represents not just a disagreement about scientific interpretations but a serious effort to buttress the economic and political power of the traditional American bourgeoisie. The debate over evolution versus creation is at once a side effect of the movement’s world view of antitheses and a means of identifying those who will follow authority in the movement. To put one’s signature to a declaration that one accepts on faith the “absolute inerrancy of the Bible” is public witness of one’s willing submission to authority. Nothing scientists outside the movement can say can change the minds of those who have declared their a priori commitment to “Biblical revelations (as) absolutely authoritative.” Scientists who feel compelled to challenge the movement must look to the political arena.”

A couple things. First, even if the senate doesn’t pass it, the fact that it made it this far is supremely moronic. Second, we believe in being prepared – we get our undies in a wad ahead of time, just in case.
