I miss 20 years ago when people like me and dennis kucinich were the far left.

Medicare for all, gay rights, higher minimum wage, integration of minorities into society, progressive taxation.

Now the overton window has moved. My policies havent changed but now I’m center left.

This would be better in P&E but I do agree with the OP that the left would command a lot more power and influence today if they championed primarily economic issues and lessened the focus on some of their other views. Things like universal healthcare, UBI, higher taxes on the rich, stronger social net, higher minimum wage and tough pro-worker labor laws could, or should, get widespread support from even the reddest counties, let alone the pink/light red/purple regions. Well, in theory.

If the left in the US really wanted a resurgence, they should rebuild the labor movement. Labor unions are full of high school educated whites, the demographic that has fled the democrats in droves in the last few decades.

The issue is they only hate these things when white, judeochristian, western capitalists do it. They either don’t care or actively support imperialism and colonialism when anyone else does it.

Basically they think they hate imperialism and colonialism, but they only care when in-groups do it. Once the out-groups do it they either don’t care or are in favor of it.

Ask them how they feel about the USSR imposing an imperialisitic empire on eastern europe, and once eastern europe was able to escape they ran to join NATO.

Ask them how they feel about the fact that Islam originated in Saudi Arabia, then violently colonized the greater middle east, forcing people to convert to Islam by force. Afghanistan used to be buddhist. Iran used to be Zoroastrian. Syria used to be Christian.
