Oh no, not again. . .

So a little while back Kizarvexius provided a link to a song from the Muppet Show. Here it is.

This song was the uber-earworm for me. It just wouldn’t go away for days. Everyday I’d catch myself saying, “muh-na muh-na.”

But I finally had it beat. It was gone. I was free. Oh frabjous day. . .
Until I was watching the NCAA tournament. A commercial for Saturn cars comes on. I’m not really playing attention to it, but the background music sounds familiar. . .

Oh no . . .

It’s fucking muh-na muh-na.

Now the earworm is back.

help

But it’s such a sweet, inoffensive earworm. Much better than "It is the song that never ends; yes, it goes on and on, my friend…

mwahahahaha

No, no, no.

It’s muh-na-muh-na. :stuck_out_tongue:
BTW, I don’t know that other song, so it can’t help/harm me.

I don’t see the problem. I beats so many, much worse songs. Ma-na-na-na.

Do-Do-DOO-do-do

Interestingly enough, that song was originally written in 1968 by Italian composer Piero Umiliani for a Swedish softcore porn film. Pretty bizarre origin for a song best known for its appearance on the Muppet Show.

The voicemail of a friend of mine is him singing that song. I tell ya, I hate leaving messages for that guy.

This song is actually one of the best chorales in all of music history.

If I can borrow five minutes of your time, I’ll prove it to you.

We all know that everytime a link is clicked on The Dope, a new page is opened. Therefore, I present the following link:

muh-na-muh-na

To get the chorale from heaven/hell (depends on your taste), do the following:

  • Click on the link.

  • Wait 10 seconds

  • Click again

  • Wait 10 seconds

  • Click again

  • Wait 10 seconds

  • Repeat until 4 or 5 instances of the song are running

  • Enjoy
I for one welcome our new Muppet Overlords.

I hate to hijack, but I’m not sure the dope needs ANOTHER thread about this.

So: Does anyone know if the tune has a real name and what it is? It almost seems like something the Tijuana Brass might have recorded, does anyone know who recorded the original?

I think that this is a GREAT thread! It makes me laugh everytime I read about that song. But, also…

Somebody started singing it and didn’t know what it was. And they’ll go on singing it forever just because…

Read ye the post merely THREE posts above thine, my young apprentice.

Happy mahnamahna-ing.

I’d forgotten how utterly charming that was.

When I was a kid I never got that the cow-things were objecting to the guy’s scat improvisation. Hilarious.

Here’s another from the original British Office.

I’m so glad I don’t know what song you’re talking about, and I’m not clicking on those links. I suffer very badly from songs getting stuck in my mind.

Self hypnosis is a great technique for removing them btw.

The other way to get rid of an Ohrwurm is to hum “Karma Kameleon” by Culture Club.

Mah-na-mah-na is the ringtone on my cell phone.

I just can’t get you outta my head,
Boy your lovin’ is all I think about…

Oh. My. God.

My eyes! My ears!

Surely the worst girl band in a long and great tradition of shit girl bands. They make B*Witched look like they have talent. And they’re not even that hot.

jjimm, I am so NOT clicking on that link.

I clicked it, Aaaaaaargh!!!. Was that real or a British Sketch Comedy?

That had to be a comedy.

Thankfully that piece of cultural detritus passed me by at the time. My brother tells me there was much speculation when it came out (1998?) as to whether it was a spoof or not. Apparently it was genuine.

I apologise for inflicting it on anyone unfortunate enough to click.
