Meaningful? Yes You can give it a shot. If you post a bunch of " work hard and you’ll become President" drivel then no.
:smack:
So basically you’re gong to waste their time further. You can do that with every one of your classes. What are you suppose to be teaching them?
If I wanted to waste their time, I’d let them read your posts.
Your parents PAID EXTRA for you to be neglected? That’s really sad.
They’re in shock. Like the British band that played “The World Turned Upside Down” as Cornwallis surrendered, they don’t believe it, but there it is.
They know, for a fact, for a rock solid inarguable fact!..that they are the true majority of Americans, that most Americans think like they do, that everybody knows America is a center right country. So what has happened, can’t have happened, not without some really rank and evil mojo.
They believe that if they scream the awful truth loud enough, their fellow Americans will snap out of their trance and sweep the Palin/Bachmann ticket into office…
Maybe we should put it to a vote.
We did. They lost.
It would contain the same useful amount of information the President is going to give.
I can improve on it though:
Hey kids, your teacher will try and use the presidential speech to sucker you into his or her political mantra. Don’t fall for it. Do your homework instead of watching it.
There you go.
OH, and if I wanted my nephews to waste their time I’d send them to your class. See how easy it is to insult people with their own words?
When was this? Perhaps I, and every republican alive, were all sleeping.
Okay then. They’re already on the website.

Wait a second, do the teachers give the students their own mantra, or one that has been supplied by the Central Committee?
Is it like “Ommm, Ommm on the range…”?
My read of that is that the complaints weren’t that Bush was making a speech at ALL, but that the complainers didn’t want federal money spent on the production. I don’t find anything in there about elected Democratic officials telling people not to watch the speech because of the content, and encouraging parents to pull their children out of school. Do you find that difference important? I do, but am willing to hear your discussion of whether or not you find it so.
You didn’t get the fruit basket I sent?
Well, that explains last November.
Could be he’s talking about those schools that -do- teach evolution. This is teaching science to children, a favoured method liberals use to brainwash children into and here’s about where my fever broke.
Must…resist…straight line…must…resist…
Well they’re suggested activities. I may be executed for my treason to the fatherland for even saying this, but even watching the speech in class appears to be voluntary.
brb, partyvan (NSFW)
This is awfully convenient. This way, when Obama makes a completely unobjectionable speech, the nutters can claim that it was going to be pure fascist socialist commie pinko indoctrination until they raised a stink and he had to re-write it.
Let’s not demean ourselves by pretending that this has anything to do with “wasting time”. Every kid in America wastes far more time than this speech will take every single day for far more inane reasons. If the exact same message were delivered by anybody but Obama no one would even bat an eyelash.
This is nothing but a chance for people who were probably burning their goddamn Dixie Chicks records six years ago to feel superior by showing disrespect to a President they hate.
What’s a “record”, Granpa J?
Other than what is normally taught in school I see a request to identify the talking points of his speech.
I’m sure the teachers on this board do a bang up job with their students but don’t delude yourselves that this is a teaching moment. It’s not.
All the White House has managed to do so far is make an embarrassing admission that they had to rewrite the speech. Obama’s numbers are tanking over the economy and this bit of PR fluff is going to rub people the wrong way.
Fortunately it’s not going to cost any money.
