I cannot believe articles like this one.
The article is about Mark David Chapman, John Lennon’s killer, saying he has finally figured out why he killed John and get this it’s because “his daddy didn’t love him.” What kind of crap is that? Does he honestly think that is a valid reason for him to take another persons life? I find it to be completely insane for him to be saying this after 20 years. He comes up for parole for the first time on October 3.
I saw Denis Leary a few years ago at the Funnybone and I remember him saying something along the lines of, “You did that because your daddy didn’t love you? Does that mean I can kill Dan Fogelberg for making me into a complete pussy in the late 70’s and insuring I didn’t get laid until I was 30?” It was one of his standard rants about people refusing to take responsibilty for their own actions.

Look, anybody can go free in court if they can just make the jury feel sorry for them. Murderers get off with some therapy because they weren’t loved enough as children. Crooks sue their victims because the person they were robbing violated their rights by shooting them.
So, do I think it’s a valid reason? Absolutely not. But, as long as people will believe that kind of bullshit, it will be a valid reason. The precedent has been set and everybody seems set and ready to follow.

If I were the judge, when MDC said “Lennon would set him free” I’d would lean over and say “What bad luck you have. The one man who would let you free, AND YOU KILLED HIM!!! GET YOUR ASS OUT OF MY COURTROOM!!!”
Maybe if Mark David Chapman had killed John Lennon to impress Jodie Foster, that would have been sensible.
