Are we talking about parental units who are a bit foggy here? I’m all about that. My folks are the poster children. Hard of hearing? A tad soft in the noggin? I could write an opus. Let it suffice to say I didn’t have a good weekend and part of it involved poop. And it wasn’t mine. Nuff said.
picu, good news on the finger.
drae, what did they steal?
bobbio, so did you tell Farmer Mac or what?
I’m supposed to be in a meeting but DQ account exec is running late. If she doesn’t hurry up, I will miss it altogether as I have another event starting at noon.
We sell cameras and photography equipment. From what I’ve gathered (because the brass aren’t all that great with the information sharing), they only got about ten point-and-shoot cameras out of our showroom, and didn’t even go for the really expensive stuff. But I haven’t heard much, I’ve been a good girl sitting at my desk instead of playing Nancy Drew like I really kinda want to.
Okay, that’s not fair, Swampy, to tease us with a giant AARRRGGHHH! and then not provide any more details! Spill it! We need to know, so we can live vicariously through you!
Not yet. I’ve decided that when I go to the station tonight for the training meeting, I’m going to take him the key and explain it all, if nothing has happened today. VWife is at home, and waiting for the slackers to come calling.
His tractor isn’t hidden or anything, just moved a few feet, BTW.
Mostly hang out on the Cooking Light BB, but I have been looking for another board to go to as well, so you might see me over there soon. And the folks on CLBB are experimenting with the same recipe, with some good results. Might try it - eventually.
I am awake, I think. I’m at work anyway. Still very tired. Stoopid meds. It’s gloomy and overcast. I want my weekend back! I lost a whole weekend! I demand a refund! I’m wearing an “interesting” outfit today, since I didn’t get to do laundry this weekend. I think I need caffeine. ::wanders off in search of caffeine, preferably with eggnog in it::
When I worked at one of the factory outlets for [an extremely large power tool company] I had arrived at work one fine morning to discover we got Mission Impossibled. As much of the whole story as we could put together, it seems the thieves had the previous day (or on a day prior to that even) did a little recon with one of them wandering about the store while the other monitored the security panel to see which sensors were tripped where. They discovered a dead spot at the back of the store. That night it seems, they climbed up on to the roof and cut a hole straight down into the store. It was quite precisely done, allowing them to drop down onto the top of one of the shelving units and down to the floor. We figure there must have been at least three people: One to grab stuff on the floor and hand it to a second person on the top shelf who’d hand it off to a third party on the roof. They ended up making off with about $50k worth of refurbished electric drywall guns, 3/8" drill-drivers and some other miscellaneous bits. Except for the drywall guns, which were our most popular corded drywall tools, the rest was relatively cheap and low-end stuff; all the higher end cordless and industrial stuff was in a monitored area.
It was odd walking into work and discovering we had a new, if crudely cut skylight. The cops were there checking the place out at the time so we just milled about and did whatever work we can in the area they didn’t need to specifically check out.
My eggnog latte has eggnog in it today! And…chocolate? Whatever. It’s caffeine.
I spoke with doc. We are, as I suspected, at the end of the line, so I’m to try quartering the pills and see if that works. After this are the less palatable options, like ect, and experimental surgeries.
When someone steals from my employer, it’s more along the lines of tapping illegally into a neighbor’s line. Altho, we have had some employees steal by issuing unauthorized credits to friends’ and family’s accounts.
**Drae ** - at least no one was hurt (were they?) Maybe the thieves thought they’d have a better chance of getting away with it if they stole the lower end stuff. BTW - you haven’t responded to the email I sent you on Thursday
If that were to happen rest assured you would be reading national news reports about me, an uzi and a water tower.
I hate this accreditation stuff! Dang! Questions, questions, questions… it’s like what I do when I go runnin’ around the country doin’ the same thing!
Anyways that’s what the aaaaaaaarrrrrrrgggggghhh was about. The good news is, after today, I won’t get bothered too much cause they’ll be out bothering others. The bad news is, today ain’t over yet. Oh and I have a church vestry meeting tonight where I get to spend a couple hours talking about bugdets, the new building (it’s coming along nicely!) and all sorts of other minutiae about the bidness end of churchy stuff. The good news there is it will be my next to last vestry meeting. My term is up at the end of December and I have to rotate off the vestry. The rule is, a three-year term followed by at least one year off before one can be elected (by the congregation at the annual Parish meeting) to serve again should one be [del]foolish[/del] dedicated enough to allow oneself to be nominated. I have served six of the last seven years. I is either really dumb or a hardcore masochist.
Well. I began my new week by typing a reasonable “Hey y’all and here’s what’s happening on The Rock” post. I spell checked it, added appropriate smilies where appropriate, blah blah blah, and just as I was about to preview it one of the Pomeranians unplugged my power source!!! T’is not a good omen…
So instead all I have to offer at the moment is a “Hello, I’m back” kind of post. There’s lots to tell, but It will have to wait until later in the day.
Since today is a training holiday, I decided at the last minute to take the day off. I have an eight hour time off award anyway, so I’m just going to use it.
The winds were really, really whipping around here this morning from about two am through about 7:30 am. I’ll have to check out the news sites and see if it hit anywhere harder.
Well, off to cruise the Dope and then the news. Then I need to get cleaned up and run a couple of errands.
AAAAAAAAAIIIIEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!
A memo just came down from above that over the next several days, they will be blocking non-work-related web sites! That means, any day now, I won’t be able to play with you guys (unless I’m home)
Talk about “oh, the humanity”
::wanders off to whimper quietly::
**Bobbio ** - I’d have put a big FOR SALE sign on that tractor with the owner’s phone number. Once he starts getting calls, he’d probably take a better interest in where his equipment is being parked.
**Rosie ** - they’re about to effectively do the same here. Sort of. In two weeks, we will be forced to actually leave our desks at lunch time, so no more browsing the web while eating lunch. All of this is because they finally came to their senses and realized resetting passwords and enforcing policies doesn’t fit the government description of what qualifies as exempt from overtime, and at the end of the month, we’ve converting to hourly pay. I’m just waiting to see how the retroactive overtime pay calculations come out. I’ve been here for just over six years, so it may be a tidy little pile of money.
But I’m still not looking forward to being forced to leave my comfy chair and go somewhere else for lunch, especially when it’s raining.
I have class tonight, and it’s a practical exercise. Raining and chilly all day today, which sucks because we’ll be in and out all night tonight.
The local “Lite FM” station has switched over to “All Christmas music, all the time” as of today. Yeah, I know there’s a Pit Thread about this, but I can’t get too worked up over it. I know how to change stations. Yes, it’s insanely annoying and way too freaking early, but I don’t listen to that station much anyway.
