Overslept this morning, got up ran into and out of the shower, shaved, grabbed some Starbucks, popped 73 Advils, drove to my all-day seminar (this one , registered, sat in a morning session about databases, in between answering phone calls all morning, ate a yummy lunch, sat in a VERY technical seminar in the PM about GPS, ate some more Advil, drove to the mall, bought a discount book, stopped at the pharmacy, filled my percodan 'script so I can quit popping Advils, had a funny conversation with the pharmiacist about “ramping up” the Percodan, came home started a load of laundry, looked at the clock, decided to wait til closer to bedtime for the Percodan, am now catching up on work and the Dope.
It still hurts. And there’s that disturbing thing where, I come out of the grocery store I walked into not 5 minutes before I can’t remember where the car is.
I’m writing everything down that I might need to remember in 10 minutes.
Whew … finally can post to the MMP! And wah! It’s Monday evening now. laughsBobbio, me thinks it’s time for a chat with George Mac. Unfortunately, he’s ultimately responsible for what the slacker farmhands are doing.
My three-day weekend went by too fast! It was also fairly quiet, mainly because I spent most of it a bit under the weather. There’s some virus thingy going around at work, and I think I caught the tail-end of it. I’m still feeling a bit punkish, but went in to work today.
So I’m enjoying reading what everyone else has been doing! Especially FCM, dreaming of Sir Paul!!
Forgot where I parked my car twice. I NEVER do that.
Popped an old hamburger bun in the toaster to warm it to make a sandwich with, answered the phone, then put a couple pieces of leftover pizza in the oven for dinner. The cold, toasted bun is still there, mocking me.
Have just NOW found my car keys. You know, the ones I always leave on the mantle when i come in the house?
Right. The second Whap! will cure it. Hey, do you want me to send Mr. Lissar over? He’s good at punching. Or he could hit you with a board or a pipe or something.
Back from work. Voice nearly gone. Unload and put away forty bundles of magazines by myself while doing cash. Not like work right now, in spite of my raise. Oh, well. Two days off, and I’m home before ten.
Time to relax.
susan, I’d love to see you on chowhound. It’s a fun site. I’m lissar, there.
I caught him! Warm fried chicken is the heavy artillery of cat trapping - most of them just can’t resist it. Church’s is really the best, but there is a KFC on the way so that’s what I used. I just barely had time to get him to the vet and run back to get to Speakeasy for the Coach’s Show, which I couldn’t hear because the people at the table next to me talked the entire time. Grrrr.
Rosie, the lady I trapped him for will keep him as an outside cat - he is not friendly and is a bit old to try to socialize. She doesn’t mind feeding him and will continue to do so - and her house is in a low-traffic neigborhood so he is fairly safe there. The other alternative would be to euthanize him. He is being tested for Fiv & Felv before his neuter - if he’s positive he will be euthanized. I’m glad I caught him when I did - he had a bad slash across his nose that leads me to think he’s either been breeding or fighting.
I agree about the comments about volunteering with a group that does something you love. When I worked at the Humane Society here there were two guys on the board who I believe didn’t even know where the shelter was located. They were on the board because it was “the thing to do” for lawyers and bankers to be on the board of a charity.
I have done litterboxes and am enjoying a Bailey’s. Bedtime is soon!
I’m thinking about trying the no-knead long rise bread overnight sometime this week, but I might wait for next week, when I’ll be baking for the relatives. I think we really have enough bread right now.
Gah! State is now convinced that I tried to commit fraud. I. Did. NOT. Apply for disability. This year. All I wanted was a doctor’s release so that I could return to work after being out for 4.5 days. From Kaiser, not the state. Disability kicks in at 5 days. Grrr. I never signed any disability paperwork! How did it get processed at all? And why was it so freakin’ fast when I didn’t need it? If I have to go on disability anytime soon, and I might, that will really screw things up. Yargh!
SCL, yay on catching the feral cat. They can be wily critters.
I like the “Oh, Sweet Nothing” concept. Lets us imagine the OP and hijack it in new and different ways.
Yeah…hitting your head again’ll shake that memory loose, MBG. I see LiLi has already volunteered Mr. Lissar to assist with this. I’m sure the neurologist will be impressed at the lengths your friends will go to to make sure you’re all better.
So many dreams! I’m dreaming vicariously since I seem to be going through another phase where I completely forget what I dreamt.
Hi susan! Nice to see you stop by!
And gotti, too.
Tired…I know there’s lots more to respond to, but I think I have to take a nap first…
Swampy, there’s a big difference between working for a charitable organization and volunteering for one. It’s called $$. Amazing how the perspective changes when you’re not getting paid. So good on you for volunteering as well as living off the charity of others, so to speak.
That traffic jam I mentioned Papa Tigs was stuck in earlier? Turns out it was so bad that two women in front of him put their cars in park, got out, and started knocking on doors until they found a homeowner willing to let them go in and use a bathroom. You can only imagine how popular they were with everyone behind them when traffic started moving while they were off answering the call of nature, but the folks behind them couldn’t move because, needless to say, this being D.C. rush hour, nobody would let them into their lane. Took him two hours to get home. Yeah, he was one happy camper. I am SO GLAD my commute is from the back bedroom to the front bedroom…
Back from the game, we lost. The Loss Prevention guy from work was there in my row. One of my cashiers was at last Thursday’s game. My dreams are starting to be less weird than real life. Oh well, Wednesday is another day.
MBG be careful, I used to walk around work with a clipboard and a lost look on my face, so they made me a manager.
rosie et al, if the block is like what I’ve had in other places…
don’t tell IT…
you can still come here
I would laugh my ass off because the filters block music but not música It was kind of funny, actually: we could still go to overstock, but search for “silver jewelry” and any page that included the word “wicca” or its derivatives got blocked. I’m still waiting to be informed of why is it ok to visit the jesuits but not a wicca page, being adults and all. I mean, I’m more into the jesuits and stuff, but it’s still dumb. Thanks God for dumb filters.
On other earth shattering news, this seems to be my Week For Being Floored. To wit,
on Saturday Mom declared, without being tortured or anything, completely of her own volition, that “we pressed you too much; you were our little girl so you had to be perfect and anything else was unacceptable; there were times we should have praised you and instead found some stupid reason to yell at you.” I’m still recovering from the shock. I mean, it’s not news to me… but hearing MOM say it? It’s like hearing Osama Bin Laden say that he’s decided to join the monastery at Mount Athos, kind’a doesn’t compute. I/O error, beep beep beep
and yesterday I found out that my bosses know even less than I thought. They’ve spent the last 4 years telling a lot of people how to use this bigass computer program (SAP) to do their jobs; among other people, the Quality Department. Yesterday as I was going over the documents I’m leaving with them, which explain how to do the stuff I’ve got half-done, there were questions like “what is this ‘inspection’ thing?” and “but, why would you do an audit on a supplier?” (this is one of those companies that have engineers AT the suppliers, giving them the specs and developing processes for them).
So, not only are they authocratic and do not know themselves, they’ve been winging it for 4 years and I’m very glad that the “peons” have been refusing to listen to much of what they said… if the peons had listened, the company would be on its way to Bustville.
It’s Tuesday, I’m back at work…still not feeling all that great but if I stayed off any longer I’d need a doctor’s certificate. Blood from stone would be easier. Bah!
I’ve got a pile of odd jobs to do before our major student info system gets shut down for a whole week! The horror! No curriculum updates, no marks processing, no exams/timetabling stuff, no ID cards, no registration letters, no council tax exemption letters, no bank letters…no nuffink! Oh, it’s going to be quite bizarre in a horrific kind of way.
We do 90% of our work on that system and they’re shutting it down for a week-long upgrade. I hope it’s a serious improvement! Fortunately I am the section’s web editor and I’ve got to move all of our web pages to the new branded sites…another one of those boring and tedious jobs, but it’ll give me something to do until Banner’s working again…
Ah, yes, moms. Amazing what happens when they have momentary insights. Don’t worry, Nava, it won’t last. My own mother apologized for being so dominating at some point last year. I almost fell over. But, she still tries to make sure that I’m living my life right and mourns the fact that we can’t live together because she could do so much for me. ::Le sigh:: She really means well, but she still hasn’t internalized the part where I haven’t been 10 years old for, well, almost 40 years. Usually, I’m able to smile and nod gracefully and move on.
Your employer sounds frightening, Nava. Hope the new one is more competent.
Well…I guess I need to go pull laundry out of the washer, make lunch, and generally get ready for work.
Howdy s_f! I wasn’t ignorin’ ya yesterday, really. Good to see ya. Stick around and play some more.
FCM I would imagine the average dessert table in a tire store would be pretty sparse and probably lean heavily toward stuff like danish.
It’s day two of accreditation… Woo and Hoo. I wonder what new tortures await me. They’ll be gone by mid-afternoon tomorrow. There will be much rejoicing in swampland followed by celebratory beerverages.
MBG here’s hopin’ the good drugs help. Oh and yep, it was me you generously offered that ten thousand dollars cash to. Just slip through the cd thingy.
