Oh uh . . . I may really be sick here

Since last Monday, I’ve been feeling kind of under the weather. I’ve felt better since Thursday evening with the exception of a terrible hacking cough that refuses to go away. The cough has been so bad that my sides have been aching all day today. About 25 minutes ago, I had a coughing fit that felt like it wouldn’t stop, and I noticed I had coughed up some blood. My doctor says I should go to the emergency room tonight and he’ll see me first thing in the morning. I’m under his orders to quit smoking but havent done so yet, so I’m expecting to get an earful of that tomorrow, and he probably won’t give me the option to turn down the Zyban prescription this time.

Anyway, wish me luck for tomorrow.

Mmmm… Blood. :frowning: Feel better, Crunchy. Good luck and stuff. Know that I’m in the same boat as you, with a temperature of about 103°F. Except I won’t see a doctor. {{{{Frog}}}}

I normally wouldn’t see a doctor for a cough either, I figured I just got sick from the flu shot I got at work. The blood was the clincher though. Never had that happen before. It’s somewhat disturbing. 15 more minutes and I’m outta here. (I’m finishing up my work day so as not to leave the other guy here by himself, and there’s a hospital within walking distance, so it’s not like I’m really putting this off for long.)

Yep, blood automatically makes it seem worse. And it probably isn’t a good thing. Most likely what the doctor will tell you (unless your doctors actually perform tests and stuff… mine don’t) is that you coughed hard enough to tear your esophagus or throat and that’s where the blood is coming from. The first time I coughed blood I thought I was dying. :slight_smile: I was 12 or so. I’m used to it by now.

You know, I was just about to make some dinner, but strangely, I’m just not hungry anymore. Thanks.

Oh, and CF, in the immortal words of PFC. Cook (USMC), “It’s not the smoking, it’s all this damn pollution!” Mind you, this form the same guy that, in order to prepare for our annual PFT, “switched to filters.”

Get well. You, too, Silver.

To all (in the Northern climes, anyway), it’s cold and flu season. Eat/drink some soup, wear a comfy sweater and snuggle with someone to keep warm.

See here Crunchy, we all know that you’re sick. It’s merely what kind of sick that needs to be determined. And now for the gift that everyone gives and nobody takes; advice.[list=1]

A cough is simply how you clear your lungs. Blood on the other hand is a sure sign of something very serious.

Total nonmedical idiot checking in . . . But it sounds like you may have coughed so hard you tore a blood vessel. So—while it’s not as serious as, say TB—you really wil have to get something to calm that cough till you heal.

And yes, you will have to give up the coffin nails.

Are you going to go to the ER? Nosocomial* illness risk seems so high this time of year. Bleh.

Hope you feel better. Aren’t you pretty young? Might be a good idea to rethink smoking.

There’s a book by Allen Carr (I think) on Amazon.com that is trumpeted as being incredible. Read the reviews, maybe. People swear by it. I’m a skeptic by nature, but people really endorse his methods.

*illness you get from the hospital, for instance, a nosocomial infection

How’re you doing, Crunchy?
