Ohhhh, looky, a springy MMP!

Milk chocolate.

But I will hold out hope that a dark chocolate option may be in the making.

Oh mika go ahead and laugh, it was funny! Big ol’ hunk of Pom fluff that the draft from the ceiling fan was causing to move just a little bit that I caught from the corner of my eye…ever read Dolores Claiborne? It reminded me of the dust bunnies! Yeeesh!

Yes I did - that’s exactly what i thought, too!

Damn good thing I don’t have a flight of stairs! lol!

Wow…I have so many things to say… and so little time - I’m actually tired and kinda sleepy.

Nava, I was mortified to see your simulMMP… Not because of the OP, but because as soon as I saw it, it came back to me that you were the one who was up for this week. Sorry to pre-empt you.

Also, all signs (and previous posters in this thread) point to leaving current job for any other opportunity. Have you tried going to the doctor in Germany? You might be able to do that without insurance. In any case, it really really really sounds like you need to get out of there. Have to say you sounded lots happier when you were in Spain… Lots of hugs. And remember that you can vent here. And feel free to send e-mail, if you need to vent offline.

Welcome to all the new people (there were several, right?). Beware of Doug comes to mind (I’ve always liked your name).

meli, I think it’s just that schools are creating policies that state that you can’t cite Wikipedia in papers and such, because there are still too many cases where things get hijacked. But there are some topics where it’s really the only practical source.

Well, there are lots more things I’d like to say, but I’m not quite awake enough… Maybe in the morning.

First off I’ll be prototyping a database system that sits in place of the file system and gets translated over to be backwards compatible with an FS. I figure that at worst it will at least have the possibility to be a faster database since it would be cutting out a layer between the data and the disk. At best it will allow Google-desktop type searching that’s built into the FS, SQL query searching against your files, allow you to add columns like artist/track/CD title/etc.-type metadata to your files and (again) do queries against that. And from a programmers viewpoint, it would let you create file-types where all the data is separated into columns so you don’t have to come up with a file format and build a parser; you can just reference file sections by column name.

I’m a sufficiently fast a programmer that I should be able to get something up and running that I can demo to MS or Apple or someone in a few months (building it into Linux.) And worst case if they aren’t interested in buying it/paying for further development is make it open source and write a howto book to sell.

I’ll also finally have a chance to edit a book I wrote (Word document – first chapter) a while ago and send it off to publishers. But even if accepted, I can’t expect much money from that, so I’ll be mostly focussing on programming projects.

The boss man continues to be amazed at how fast I work–when he bothers to come in. He made my little flunky clean the fridge this weekend. I enjoyed her tales of trying to figure out just what horrors were in there.

I fried my face this weekend. I feel your pain. But Roomie’s boyfriend was wearing wraparound sunglasses, and I got to spend Sunday calling him the Skin Cancer Bandito, so that made me feel better. Now I’m just waiting to peel.

I didn’t see your answer, but I always found lipstick cases to be perfectly joint-sized. I mean … somebody else told me that. Yeah. I never had a lipstick case.

I cringe whenever I think of Dolores Claiborne, even though I love the book. My mother looks exactly like Kathy Bates, and thinking about the movie version naturally leads me to Misery, and I remember being very ill shortly after seeing that movie and feeling vaguely uneasy when Mom insisted on taking care of me.

Nava, hugs coming your way. Is there an in-between moving back to ugh, mom and staying in your present situation? If so, I vote for that. If not, sending more hugs.

Mork, I missed you last week. I’m glad you’re back. I remembered you were on vacation and didn’t send out the red alert. Glad you had a good time.

Jahdra, that’s a beautiful purse. I love the color and you’re a very talented craftsperson.
Welcome to all the new people. This thread is hopping. . . a sure sign of spring!

I never really questioned the camel until recently - a bunch of us were talking about Ren Faires and I mentioned that I remember riding a camel. My friends looked at me and said, “A camel? Was this the Saharan Renaissance?” And then it dawned on me that camels don’t have anything remotely to do with the Renaissance. :smack:

I should look up Ren Faires around here. Although I’m planning to visit NY in the summer to see a friend, so mayhaps I’ll see you guys there.

Gah, I am tired. I didn’t even have class today. But I have one tomorrow morning, so it’s off to bed for me. Nighty night!

Kai - from within jigzone, send me an email (see my profile) then I will add you to my friends list. swampy, FCM, and reco are all also on jigzone

gt - the lipstick case is so the cap of the lipstick doesn’t pop off suddenly, subjecting the contents of your purse (or whatever) to be covered in red (or whatever color) waxy gunk. But carrying joints in it is good, too.

I had the weirdest dream. I was in my old house, mom & dad were still alive, but mom was a drunk and dad was very ill. After mom and I cleaned up dinner, she told me she was going out, so I went to bed. I awoke later and heard dad talking about coffee. I thought he thought it was morning, but then he spoke some non-sequitorial sentances, and as he did so, he fell out of bed. When he hit the floor I yelled at him to wake up so he would get back into bed (I couldn’t lift him) which he did. He went back to sleep and I went to see if mom had come home yet and noticed it was getting light out. I got worried because she left her watch and rings, which she never took off, on the kitchen table. I was going to call the police and report her missing but just then a tow truck (a two story two truck, with 3 cars on it and 4 passengers in it) dropped mom (but not our car) off. Our houseboy ( :dubious: ) let her in, but I yelled at him not to let the cat out. He said he never did.
Then Smokey jumped on me and I woke up. So I came in here.

ETA - Haze - what part pf NY?
and
I’ve collected so much cat hair brushing Smokey I swear I could build a new cat.

Why are we still on page 2? We were on page 2 last night.

Why is kai lying to us? I don’t see any silver!

Considering that it’s swampy saying he’s eaten bear… did he mean “eat, eat” or did he mean “you know  eat”? Do we want to know?

To all those people who think camels don’t have anything to do with the Renaissance, I say: bollocks! Several European royal houses kept menageries both in the Middle Ages and Renaissance; camels were actually easier to get and keep than, say, tigers. I’ve seen perfectly recognizable camels in medieval and rennaisance tapestries, the kind of portrait that looks as if it’s been drawn by someone who’s seen one rather than by someone who had one described to him.

One of my reasons to take this job in the first place was that the pay is so ridiculously high that I could perfectly well take it for the 5 months it was supposed to last and not be worried about further employment for a year, even if I didn’t have unemployment subsidy (I still have several months of subsidy left from the last time I was unemployed, plus what I’ve accumulated since). In 24 hours of searching, I’ve already got three contacts rolling, one of which has half a dozen openings I might fit in. They usually get advertised as being in “Bilbao”, “Barcelona” or “Madrid”, but that’s not where the actual jobs are located, they can be all over the country… it’s where the subcontractor contacting the agency to contract (me) are located. I’m indicating I’m willing to travel all over Spain and “will consider abroad” (I’m fine with Italy, for example, but will skip Switzerland if that’s OK with everybody, thanks).

I’m part of the auburn crowd too, but need to go to the hairdresser. I think I’ll use this as an excuse to continue avoiding German-language hairdressers and wait until Mom comes, yells at me for the state of my hair :stuck_out_tongue: and gets me an appointment with these ones back home who do what i say. A hairdresser who does what you say is a treasure.

I have nothing constructive to add, I’m just helping us get to page 3 faster.

Oh, and I think I’ve shaken that weird dream off. Back to sleep.

Three?
Whither thee…

believes he recalls that a board rule is “No Thread Padding”…

It’s foggy this morning! How did that happen? Yesterday was all sunny and springy, and today it’s gone all autumnal…and I still can’t hear properly!

Our office is having one of those ‘all change’ days. Someone’s moving out and will be relocated to the office I used to be in, two other people are moving into that office as well, I guess it must be popular.

It’s a bit weird because the space that I’m in now has four desks, one of which will now be empty. The girl opposite me is going on maternity leave in May and the other one of our little group only works three days a week. Are they trying to tell me something?

Good mornin’ y’all! I’m up (have been for a while) and caffienatin’. I’m trying to motivate myself to go get cleaned up but so far it ain’t happenin’. Well, I did manage to brush my teeth, so there’s that.

I’ve eaten bear and I’ve eaten bear. I’ll leave it up to you all to figure out what that means.

swampy, dear, do you own stock in all major brain bleach manufacturing companies? Just an innocent question.

I’m awake, facing much too much to do today. Argggggh.

Glad you’re back, Mork (forgot to say this yesterday). It was quiet without you.

Those sound like cool plans, Sage Rat. You’re part of the MMP retirement-fund development group, right?

I did see your answer, rosie. But I hardly ever carry lipstick in my purse and the brands I’ve bought have rarely ever come uncapped.

Astute observation, Nava. I saw no evidence of gray, either. Nice pics, kai.

Glad there are so many job opportunities, Nava. Now, just grab one and get the heck out of Dodge. Well, unless your car is a Dodge, of course, in which case you need to get in. (Heeee hee.) Also, haircuts are important, so there’s another reason to go home.

Off to make lunch, have breakfast, and generally get ready for work.

Back tonight.

Sunday afternoon, I spent time outside burning some of the old barn that I didn’t want to haul to the dump. I sunburned my scalp in the process :smack: <OUCH, Oh sh@t!>

I think that qualifies as the ‘TMI of the day’…

The next lucky person gets to start page 3

I had another weird dream - this one involved Kirk and crew (and Kirk spoke both fluent Vulcan and fluent Klingon) and an alien race that was defeated by turning the planet upsidedown (think the Exederin commercial with Atlas) and I had to grab onto a railing to keep from flyng off into space.
