Spring cleaning – a tidying swap-meet MMP

OK, by the calendar, the vernal equinox isn’t for another couple of weeks. But in my little corner of the world, we’re being promised a week of mild temperatures and no more freezing at night. Close enough.

Spring demands a clean start – throw open the windows, throw out old stuff. Maybe we can stage a MMP rummage sale or swap meet. Whaddaya got??

Lessee, in the hall closet there’s a black liner for a jacket that we no longer have. And in the guest room closet is a lamp – I’m pretty sure it still works, but the shade is kinda sad looking. Oh, and in the basement I found what looks like one of them old long-handled bedwarmers, although it might be a fireplace popcorn popper – I’m not sure. And let’s not forget this ceramic baking dish. No, not one I made – I bought it years ago. The lid has some chips and a crack, but if you put it on a high shelf it’ll look pretty and no one will be the wiser.

Last but not least – a pair of concrete lions that have been sitting outside our garage. They’re not my style, but if you’re into kitsch, you can have ‘em!!

And there’s lots more space on the tables. What do you want to sell or trade? Or give away?

I tossed out all our old stuff about three months ago. It’s all gone, and I’m finished with the spring cleaning!
Have a great Monday, everyone.

I’ll have to think about this… I think the stone lions would be awesome, however, I can’t see driving there to pick them up right now and shipping would be killer.

If my one pair of shoes on eBay don’t get any bids, I can offer them. They’re quite lovely, but the heels are too tall for me.

Well, it’s Monday and I’m going to the beauty school to get my hair done today! Ok, I’m planning to go if they have any openings, which, they usually do.

We tore out the old microwave last night and are waiting for GilaMonster to get here today to install the new one. Even though they are the same size, we won’t be able to use the mounting bracket from the old one.

Cute! We’re remodeling our kitchen so I’m getting rid of a lot of old kitchen stuff. Plastic glasses, old coffee mugs, etc.

Lots to go through!

We live like church mice. (Except for our PS3 and our flatscreen, but we got the latter used for $300). Nothing to give away here.

I actually need more butter knives.

I totally have Phantom of the Opera stuck in my head.

Masquerade… paper faces on parade…

Up, caffeinated, off to work. I’m doing spring cleaning next week, when I’m on vacation.

I just cleaned out my closet a couple of weeks ago. I wonder what I could toss out of hubby’s crap in the garage? :stuck_out_tongue:

Welcome to Monday. Blech.

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffienatin’. 'Tis a beautiful but cool morn in swampland.

If I ever get around to cleanin’ out storage buildings, I’ll have lots o’ stuff. Seriously. I have a lot of Christmas type stuff I used to decorate with but have stopped doin’ so much. I will do this this year. Sometime. Really. I envision organizin’ it all so I know what I’m keepin’ and what’s goin’ away. Of course the big plan is to take it over to the church in October for our annual yahd sale cause that stuff sells big and it’s for the church so I can take it as a tax deduction.

Yahd cleanin’ will need to wait a while yet. We actually had frost last night. I intend to get started in a couple of hours. For now, I have some field peas on to cook for tonight’s dindin. I shall also cook some squishes. We are havin’ those, plus rice and gravy, fried chicken thighs and laigs and very likely bizkits. Hey, I’m not at irk today, so I figure on a really good dindin. Plus tonight is Vestry meetin’ night. Yeehaw!

We started plannin’ for our church St. Patrick’s party yesterday. Well, we know what we’re gonna do so it was a matter of draftin’ people to do it. Corned beef and cabbage, Irish (well, it’s Irish because we say so) stew, Irish soda bread (yum!), green beer and various dessert type stuff. Plus entertainment. It’s always fun!

Ok, gonna go grab more caffiene and forage.

Blurf.

Cleaing? whazzat?

Unfortunately The Princess[sup]TM[/sup] cleaned me out of all yard-saleable goods recently for her personal sale.

Both dogs are having intestinal issues starting with the pug last night before bed. I took her out three times during the night and the chihuahua once. They are better this morning but I am full of blurf.

I’m going to go take a nap…because I can.

Tupug

We’re not doing any cleaning, but some extended-family members are cleaning and packing up their home with intent to move.

They’ve been there for well over 20 years. You can imagine the amount of stuff a sane person would amass. Add that she’s a crafter and has a good-sized touch of Alzheimer’s coming on, and he’s got the usual old guy’s well-entrenched workshop with scads of screws and nails and bits and bobs all stashed away in cigar boxes and baby food jars, and well, they have a huge project. We helped by giving them our heap of used moving boxes. So actually, we did do some cleaning - we got back a few square yards of garage floor space.

At the moment, our truck is having some internal spring cleaning done - oil change, transmission fluid change, etc.

Spring Cleaning actually has a pretty well established schedule here – it needs to be done just before Passover!

Well, if you’re hosting the Seder, at least. Which this year we aren’t… So I’m going to try to get out of doing anything (although I’m sure I’ll be dragooned by The Wife into at least some cleaning, anyway…)

I’m sitting downstairs making rice pilaf while GilaMonster and my grandpa work on putting in the microwave upstairs. It’s sort of hard to use the stove when they’re working right above it.

Having spent the weekend playing with foam, glue, more foam, a different type of glue, fiberglass, more glue, latex, more glue and paint, the clothes I was wearing have been dumped, not washed.

Now I have a Stupid Problem in that apparently the results of all that cutting and glueing don’t travel well by plane! :smack:

Sounds like fun! What is it?

I don’t have the final results, since it needed to get a final hand of lacquer, but it was with this guy. I made an axe; apparently it counts as a one-hander, but if I was ever going to use it I’d use it two-handed. I’ve done “lite” LARP, but the notion of getting camping equipment, one or more complete “fantasy” suits, and spending several weekends a year in the ass-end of Britain/Germany yelling around in the woods doesn’t appear to be compatible with “living in a suitcase.”

blurf - still feeling bruised and battered from Saturday’s fall.

I started my “spring cleaning” 3 months ago - and it will probably last the whole year. This is something I would never be able to do alone, but my friend A comes over and helps and says things like “why the hell are you keeping this?” and “don’t you have three others of this?” and such.

Gnat has a cold and was awake every fifteen minutes all night. No work today. Eyes permanently crossed.

Was getting all spoiled by sleeping through the night.

Clean tomorrow maybe? Or watch other people clean- even better.
We got a ginormous lovely tax return on the weekend. I plan on buying very nice cheese and pretty nice wine. I deserve it, dammit.

After taking pictures of the contents of all of my drawers and cabinets last week, I feel like there should be stuff that we could get rid of, but most of it is stuff that we use, even if only once a year or so. So I don’t think we’ll be doing any big clean out this year. We moved just 2 years ago and got rid of a bunch of stuff then and had moved only a year and a half before that as well so we really haven’t had a chance to acquire much junk. Certainly nothing to compete with concrete lions!

I made my work calendar’s recipe for this month: Irish cream brownies. They’re reeeeeeeeeeeally good. I’m bringing them to work after lunch today.
