We moved this weekend and still left at the old house is all the stuff deemed not important enough to have been boxed in the rush before the movers arrived; assorted jugs of whatever in the garage, an elk rack, old framed pictures, antique pavers and tiles, terra cotta planters, skiis, an old fishin’ pole, etc. You got a pick-up? It’s yours.
I’m moving this Friday. My plan was to do a leisurely pack over the 5 weeks that I was aware of the impending event, complete with organizing and sorting of paperwork. Now? I am only trashing the obvious items - anything that is a maybe or “needs more research” is going in to the boxes. One advantage is that my roommate is out of town this week, so I can move all the stuff out of my bedroom in to the living room as it is ready. And, I’m moving to a larger place and will have more room to sort as I unpack (in theory).
Yeah, I would tend to agree with you. However, I’m moving in to a place of my own vs. having a roommate. And last time that happened, I found myself compulsively purging papers every month. I think it’s the difference of my own place vs. a shared space.
I need to go and clean out the stuff I have up in my loft – there’s a good bit up there that can probably go, but most of it is stuff like old clothes that wouldn’t fit anybody else anyway. What I’d really like to GET is a full or queen mattress and box spring so I don’t have to sleep on my futon anymore and can use it as a couch.
But not today. I’ve got to get an MRI of my neck at 1. I’ve been having some issues with my left arm and strongly suspect it stems from my neck, though the doc thought I was overreacting. I wasn’t too happy with him. (He also probably knows next to nothing about my orthopedic issues. But I need the scan anyway, so I’ll do that here. If anything turns up that needs surgical sorts of intervention, that will be…interesting to arrange.) So we’ll see. I have some nice drugs that should keep me from flipping out in there; I’m a bit claustrophobic so that was the first thing I asked for!
So I’m not climbing any ladder later when I’m all drugged up. It’s not like I haven’t been telling myself to do it for months anyway, it’s not like another week or six or eight is really going to hurt.
I have been spring cleaning for a while. I have nothing to swap but I would love some concrete lions, however there’d be no way for me to get them and shipping would be ridiculous.
I’ve been doing some yard work and I’m going to declutter a bunch of 5 gallon buckets from my garage by turning them into self watering containers and then having them clutter up my front porch, but with any luck I might get some vegetables to show for it. My main problem with growing things is the watering issue. I tend to be absent-minded and don’t remember to water until the plants get droopy.
I took a few items from my garage to a recycling event nearby but I forgot a couple things, but still it feels good to get rid of things properly.
I’d love some pavers and planters but again, I think I’m too far away from Bedrock to get them. If I lived close to lieu I’d probably be stalking him by now.
In all seriousness, I have a brand-new, still in the box foot bath that my brother thought was a great gift for me. I’ve never used it, I probably never will. If anyone would like it - let me know.
Oh my, I may be lucky the truck is still alive. The transmission fluid was so bad that the guy actually led me across the shop floor and over (not around!) the service pit to see the jar filled with inky almost blue-black transmission fluid. For those that don’t know, tranny fluid should look more like cherry cough syrup than molasses.
I didn’t have the nerve to ask what condition the engine oil was. At least the engine coolant is still good.
If you want to prettify the lamp, my mom makes custom lampshades. They’re gorgeous. I don’t think I should spam, so PM me if anybody is interested.
She just got an order from a lady who had one (from a different maker) that got smashed in the move. Apparently the ‘professional’ movers put it in a box and then put things on top of it. :smack:
I’ve got a pile of stuff to take the thrift store, a pile of stuff to sell, and I need to go through my books. And I need to go through my storage unit and get rid of most of it, but I can’t do that until I have money to buy different containers. sigh
I cleaned out the junk drawer the other day. Would anyone like an extra 5 nightlights? More? My husband has a thing about nightlights–if he sees some that are better (i. e. more techy) than the ones we have, he has to buy them. So we have 15 nightlights around the house, and a whole lot of extras that have been shoved out. He also does this with magnets.
Also 3 old calculators and a job lot of adhesives.
I would like a nightlight - where do you live, Dangermom?
I have a 2-story cat tent, the kind you put together with plastic poles & canvas. It’s way too tempting for my kids to take apart and play with, so it’s still in the box. My cats would probably not be real interested in it anyway. Anyone want?
I have finished yahd work. Well, all of it I’m gonna do today anyways. There’s more to do but it can wait 'til I motivate again. I have showered and had a beerverage and am all relaxated right now.
In a while I shall finish up the makin’ of dindin. I need to fry chicken laigs and thighs, make rice and gravy and the bizkits. I am a cheat today cause I’m usin’ frozen bizkits. I took a couple of cans of peaches out of the pantry a while ago. They are supposed to inspire me to make a peach cobbler. So far they have not done their job, the lazy slobs!
I hate my job and I hate Monday’s…there are several people that are now on The List that need to be slapped…or maimed…or poked in the eye with the really sharp pointy stick. I am feeling very stabby today. Grrrrrr
In other news the moveing co-ordinator has awarded the contract to pack and ship me back to the US and the lawyers made progress with the paperwork. This made me slightly less stabby.
I need to dig out masses of paperwork for my French taxes that the tax people only told me about today after 3 weeks of asking. This made me feel more stabby.
I had chocolate while I was waiting on dinner heating up when I got home. This made me feel less stabby
Ummmm back on topic spring cleaning…I will be going through everything when I am back in the US and purging as I unpack - is it weird that I am looking forward to it?
