OJ Simpson has died

He was acquitted, but he was far from innocent. He went looking for trouble, and found it, but by the legal definitions, or through a biased jury, he didn’t commit a convictable offense. He lucked out.

I didn’t think there were any open controversies about Joe Lieberman when he died.

:woman_shrugging:

Rather that guilt or innocence think of it as proven or unproven. The jury found the case unproven, not found him innocent.

Because when you are on the ground and someone is trying to murder you you should let them. Its the innocent thing to do. The attempted murderer was looking for trouble.
Aside- theres a protest at Kent State cause Kyle was there and people are butthurt, except for the guy who was armhurt.
No more hijack.

One could argue that by opposing the public option, Lieberman caused the death of more people than OJ.

That thought had occurred to me.

Exactly how would hiring a professional killer be outrageously farfetched, not make him legally or morally culpable for murder, or not be possible?

I’d like to stress that I don’t know what happened, but absent a smoking gun that’s the most likely scenario to me.

In your suggested scenario, I’d expect an airtight alibi would be established.

A professional killer would be in and out, no muss no fuss. Multiple stabbings, plus pulling her head back and slitting her throat, are marks of a crime of passion. You have to have a lot of anger for that.

If I understand your question.

Conceivably it might have been a professional instructed not to make it look like a professional job, since that would lead to questions like “what wealthy person might have had motive to arrange this?”

I forget, did the defense have any specific theory of who actually did do it, or was it just “Must have been some random psycho”?

Because the murder has all the signs of a crime of passion. A professional would have either been a quick shooting, or would have staged a break-in, or robbery. That, and an air-tight alibi.

Really, the most likely scenario is that a man with a record of physically abusing his wife and had anger issues hired someone to stab her and slice her throat, and stab Ron Goldman to boot? The most likely scenario to me is that OJ got angry once again, and flipped out, left a bloody trail, but then the investigators and crime lab bungled the evidence and the prosecution made some more blunders and a jury primed by the LA Police history of racism was was willing to play the race game.

Obviously it was some enraged golf player.

IIRC, authorities found a lot of blood evidence at OJ house. In the foyer, in the master bedroom, in the master bathroom, etc. That’s as close to a “smoking gun” as you can get under the circumstances. Yet the authorites did not issue an arrest warrant until 5 days after the murders. Why did they let a suspected double murderer roam the street for five days?

But FTR, I still think he did it.

OJ’s days of running through airports has ended.

He is one of the greatest running backs that ever played. His record setting productivity ended after multiple knee injuries. I only saw him play at the end of his career.

His life and actions after football is terrible. It’s a tragic story for everyone involved.

They tried to pin it on drug dealers. IIRC, they referred to Nicole’s slashed throat as a “Colombian necklace,” the implication being she had somehow stiffed “the Cartel.”

Because, for you to be correct, then that alleged killer left absolutely no physical evidence, such as DNA, at the scene, yet managed to leave lots of physical evidence, such as DNA, hair, and footprints, which all matched OJ Simpson. That professional killer was so good, in fact, that he or she even managed to track that OJ evidence to OJ’s car, clothes, and home. Again, without leaving any evidence of their presence.

I think it mostly had to do with testing all of the blood samples and the DA’s office being overcautious.

The autopsies on Nicole and Ron weren’t performed until June 14th which was more than a full day after they were murdered on the night of the 12th. So it took that long to collect samples of their blood. They already had a blood sample from OJ.

Being that OJ was a celebrity and the case was snowballing into a media frenzy, the DA’s office wanted to minimize the chances of a fuck up when they charged him, so instead of doing quicker standard blood tests, they did some initial DNA testing which took from the 14th to late on the 15th to complete.

The DA’s office took the 16th discus the case amongst themselves, make sure they had their bases covered, plan the logistics for the next day, etc.

So on the morning of the 17th, the office notified Shapiro that OJ would be expected to turn himself in that morning.

This. They were collecting evidence first because they knew he was a celebrity getting massive media attention, and because the murders looked to be crime of passion, i.e. targeted, not random. They wouldn’t expect OJ to just start offing everyone he came in contact with. Unlike other family murder situations we have seen recently where the killer hits multiple family members at multiple sites.

Actually, it was a friend of Nicole’s who apparently had a drug problem that they said had the cartel connection. Nicole was mistaken identify. Yeah, right. Also, the Colombian necklace (necktie, IIRC) was (spoilered for the faint of heart):

when the neck is slit and the tongue is pulled down and through the hole in the neck.

Damn, the details one remembers…
