Ok,Im new here,Carol is the name

Oh, carol nistri! May I have a word with you in The Pit?

A bit late to this thread, but hey.

Carol, I can quite honestly say that I haven’t given the subject of cattle, mute or otherwise, more than a fleeting thought in decades. This despite the fact that my grandpa was a cattle rancher. You’ve already accused me of having made up my mind on this subject without having considered the options. If you’ll humor me, what options? My knowledge at this point is that sometimes cattle die mysteriously. My assumption is that there’s a reasonable explanation for this. I really haven’t thought past that. You keep saying that there are mysterious circumstances surrounding these deaths - the pattern of predation, lack of tracks, whatever. I, having no knowledge of the specifics, ask what makes these circumstances mysterious? Is there any evidence that, say, tracks are less common around unexplained deaths than around explained deaths? Surely some cattle die in the middle of a bunch of rocks, so there are no tracks, yes? Where’s the evidence. Show me some evidence of what you’re talking about, and I’ll evaluate it critically.

NB: “Evidence” is different from an exclamation that “Dude! There’s weird shit going on!”

Perhaps the cows wandered off and died of Heat stroke, disease, or even bovine spongiform encephalopathy, and then were feasted upon by maggots, parasites, and other small creatures that chose to feast on the small tender vital parts first?

Though if I wanted to get all conspiratorial up in here- why not just assume the Cows probably died of Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy, and the farmers recognized this, and rather than report that this is what happened (and thusly be forced to put their entire herd to death), perhaps they are covering it up by mutilating the cattle and then playing dumb in order to try to get money out of the deal and still manage to squeeze a profit from their dubious farming tactics?

Why does big gov always have to be the bad guy, and not greedy people trying to make a quick buck?

That’s silly. If you have an explanation, say what it is. Being timid and coy is just wasting everyone’s time.

In stages, huh? Maybe I can help things along. <ahem>

omg, carol nutsri, yur tottaly rite,i never thot of cattle mutes that way befor but now i can see its’ all been a lie,cud you tell me whats happening when a cow gets it’s butthole mysteriously cored with lazer presishun?

Yeah sure, I believe the hole part…butts, not so much.

If a cattle mute moos in the forest and there’s no one there to hear it, does it make a sound? Oh wait, that’s probably a (cattle) moot point…

Remember, the space bar is your friend.

Pshaw. It’s not worth noting until it’s **over 9,000!
**

I just want to say that I just now stumbled across this thread, and coincidentally this morning Ross Perot spoke at my school. You sound awfully similar. In fact, I simply cannot read your semi-coherent posts without doing so in Perot’s voice. You’re not him, are you?

She’s much taller. Almost anyone is.

ok lets sum it up.Ranchers are the authority here. They raise these animals for a living. They know cattle, they protect their investments into these animals. When a Rancher tells you that this is strange you can believe its strange.Do any of you really believe that the attorneys office could have contacted the Justice Dept and gotten them involved with nothing more than a phone call? Of course not. There had to be enough evidence to indicate to the Justice Dept that an all out investigation was called for. But an all out investigation would have included autopsies to determine what the animals actually died from. I havent heard from a single person whos truely interested in this subject but there my be a lurker or two that sees what Im saying has merit. Its to you I say that this one and only offical report stinks ,the ranchers were furious at its conclusion as it suggested that they didnt recognize common range death. They know common range death, they see it all the time. Ok enough is enough, sorry if ,no Im not the least bit sorry so why say I am when Im not.Im onto something with this and I know I am.Ta Da.

You still haven’t given us your explanation.

  1. No, they’re not. They understand raising cattle but they don’t necessarily know much about the effects of natural predation of cattle.

  2. Ranchers in this very thread have shown that they don’t see anything unusual with the state of the dead cattle. They’ve identified the predators, killed them, and the cattle deaths have stopped.

OK, so it isn’t natural. Are you saying it is unnatural? Or. . .super natural?

Have you ever heard of the concept of an argument from ignorance?

You’ve all misunderstood completely! (Colibri, I’m surprised you missed this.)

“Mute” (plural mutes) is a word of art used by classical falconers to describe the excretory production of birds. It consists of (the quote is its own link):

[ul]
[li]Fecal - the semi-solid mass, frequently this is colored[/li][li]Urate - white, chalky material - the crystalline uric acid that is the result of protein metabolism[/li][li]Urine - clear water that flushes the waste from the system[/li][/ul]

The OP is talking about cattle mutes, or cow crap— more commonly known as bull shit. That more clearly defines the actual basis of this thread.

Can we please stop calling them ‘cattle mutes’? The preferred term is Shredded-Americans.

I just read this now, because I was wondering why the newcomer appeared to garner so much attention: three pages of welcoming?

Imagine my amusement. This is almost as much fun as Silverstreak Wonder, or whatever his name was.

Bovine-Antanalists

Lumper!

Carol and the guy who assumed he was gassed when he slept longer than usual after a long plane ride and found no evidence of a struggle/robbery should really get together.

Along with Egmond Codpiece, who can make them understand that blue blood is black blood, as proven by Charles II Stuart, who was described as The Black boy, a tall black man and the swarthy Stuart.
