My audience’s biggest eruption? Surprisingly, when that cop said “I want men posted in all these buildings! And I want a perimeter all the way down to 39th!”
True - we all know how much Joss Whedon simply despises obscure pop culture references.
References, yes. But why that one?
I think you all are seeing a superficial similarity and making a connection.
That’s just we roll.
Why not?
You accidentally a verb.
And… how!
Heh! Masterful. I can’t tell if this is a serious complaint or a really funny comic book in-joke
(The rebooted Nick Fury comic book character of 2001 was explicitly modeled after Samuel Jackson. Now that the movies have actually been made, it’s come full-circle, so he’s playing himself as his stereotypical movie persona.)
Hey, I got that one.
Dunno if this has been mentioned before but at the end, why was Loki’s mouth covered up? Its not like his powers are using his voice to take over other people’s minds. Maybe they were just tired of his shit?
In Stuttgart he commanded the crowd to kneel, and they did. He got close to breaking Black Widow just by talking to her. As a demigod, he has power over mortals even without the Glowstick of Destiny, and as the trickster, he has the ability to confuse and twist others (even Asgardians) to his will. I think that even Thor would realise that Loki would use their relationship as a weapon/tool to seek escape. And the best approach to avoiding that would be to “shut him up”.
Or maybe the censor figured out what mewling quim actually meant, and did not want a repeat
Si
But now, the Avengers face their greatest challenge!
Marvel Asgardians =/= Viking Asgardians
You need to be of pure heart, a warrior, have indomitable will, all around dude of honor.
I don’t think Cap is that simple anyway. He’s lived in the modern era for how many years now and a master of war.
I know that, at least in the comics past Cap has lifted the Hammer, as has Beta Ray Bill.
According to the Marvel.wikia.com website, others who have been deemed worthy to wield Mjolnir in the Earth-616 reality are Tiwaz, Bor, Odin, Beta Ray Bill, Red Norvell, Eric Masterson, Ororo Munroe (X-Man Storm), Steve Rogers (Captain America), Simon Williams (Wonder Man) and Alexander Power (Zero-G of the Power Pack)
I really, really wish I could take credit for this being some kind of awesome in-joke, but the sad fact is that I haven’t even read the comics. It was just my real criticism of SJ’s acting in the role, I’m afraid.
What’s really funny is that Thanos is a rip-off of Darkseid, who was created by Kirby for his Fourth World comics when he defected to DC.
In fact, when I caught the glimpse of a face at the end I thought it was Darkseid and couldn’t figure out how they were going to do that.
The New Gods are the worst thing that ever happened to DC, a pollution that continues to spoil comics four decades later. Kirby could draw but he couldn’t write his way out of a hat. Yes, he was extremely influential in the 60s Marvel revolution, and yes, he got screwed just like every other person who worked in comics at the time. Including Stan Lee, who didn’t make any real money until much later. But it was Stan’s writing who changed the comics world, not Kirby’s art. We know this because every single thing Stan did clicked no matter who the artist was, but the reverse can’t be said for Kirby.
I liked the scene in Thor where he immobilized Loki, who had been knocked onto his back, just by putting Mjolnir on his chest.
Yeesh. That’s kind of devaluing it, I think. By now, the Boy Scout next door could probably lift it…
I thought I recognized that cop–it was Robert Clohessy, who played Officer Coffey on* Hill Street Blues*.
So I don’t remember, in Thor did Thor/Loki/Odin ever mention being to Earth before? They pretty much flat out said the myths were inspired by them, but I don’t think I recall Thor (or anyone) ever really mentioning “oh, yeah, this place. Huh… I guess they don’t really worship us anymore.”
