OK, I've seen The Avengers - open spoilers!

O.K., this is like the fourth time I’ve read this on the SDMB- I don’t know if it’s always Chronos or if four different posters have said the same thing.

It didn’t happen. Anybody prove me wrong with an exact quote of dialog and I will owe you a shoe shine.

After seeing it twice, I can paraphrase the dialog- thus I will bow to a correction including an exact quote.

My paraphrase:

Banner: Did I hurt anyone?

The Original HD: Nobody around to hurt, except the pigeons.

But the guy also says “You were awake when you fell.” I think it’s a deliberate implication that Hulk aimed away from populated areas, although obviously that’s up for interpretation.

There was also a statement by the Original HD that implied he changed the direction of his falling - to avoid hurting people.

The shoe shine is yours when you’ve got an exact quote of the dialog.
Til then my shine box stays tucked under the bed.

Just because a rodeo cowboy can ride the brahma bull, doesn’t mean he uses one to commute to work.

Plus, it’s REAL hard on the wardrobe, and he doesn’t carry a change of clothes with him.

It’s what I said in post 102, the comment that he was awake when he fell. It’s entirely possible that Banner interpreted that (as obviously many people in the audience did) to mean that he influenced the direction of his fall to avoid hitting anyone. No, it’s not directly stated.

Shiny Tennis Shoes aren’t my thing - but the scene was there to establish that Banner/hulk had some control over his actions - that he targeted what appeared to be an abandoned building (not sure how he knew that) instead of a populated area.

and to answer the greatest question of all times - where does he get those stretchy pants that never disappear? Apparently, they are delivered to him by well intentioned security gaurds of abandoned builidings.

Just curious, but how would Banner’s mind have influenced the direction of the fall? Once he had jumped off that jet, he is going to land where he is going to land, isn’t he?

angle of body, a properly timed flatulance burst -

Oh, I can accept there being room for some people to have made that interpretation, but each time I have read reference to it there is a explicit claim that HD told Banner that he aimed away from people to avoid hurting anyone.

I’m saying that was never explicitly stated in the movie.
I too have injected my Avengers related posts with my own delightful brand of fan-wankery, but this whole “HD told Banner that he aimed away from people” thing is becoming a truth.

Needless to say, I know to which scene I will be paying most attention when I go in for my third viewing.

Normally I would think you were joking, but with hulkfarts who knows?

You’re mistaken. When Banner finds out the place was abandoned (except for pigeons) he says something like, “Dumb luck.”

HDS says, “Or good aim, you were awake when you hit.”

As an aside, I’d assume the Hulk has some level of control over a fall, since his hands are like manhole covers. Also, I don’t own dress shoes. So you can keep your polish box under the bed.

Technically, we don’t truly know if the Hulk is a male. “Hulk Queef!”

Puny Laws Of Physics!

Oooh! Excellent Quote-mining Lobohan!

I remember that exchange, you’re right. I took that as a throwaway line. A folksy off-the-cuff response. Because I did not take it to be HD making a statement of fact, it did not stick with me the way it stuck with other people.

I still think it was just a folksy response. I don’t think it was “No, naked possible alien, don’t you understand? You aimed for the abandoned warehouse!”

but

I think it is valid for others to interpret it as a strong implication that Banner aimed the Hulk away from people.
Lobohan is the winner of the shoe shine. Just because the shoe shine has been refused doesn’t been it goes to any possible runner-up.

You’re not being rude, everyone’s entitled to their own opinion. We probably went in looking for two different movies. I thought Hemsworth and Evans were fine in their roles, and that the movie had to shrink character development for fear of being bogged down. I thought Thor was fine, but it really does help if you’ve seen his standalone movie, which is my favorite of all the five pre-avengers flicks.

eta: quoted from the other thread

Claps, maybe.

I missed the Legolas line completely. When does Stark say it?

Another favorite line - the SHIELD fighter pilot, as he’s shooting at the Hulk: "Target is very angry!"

Most definitely.

Yes. And I have to admit I felt some real estate envy for Stark’s view of the Chrysler Building and the rest of the Manhattan skyline, right out his huge windows.

Maybe he just continually reminds himself of the [insert hated political party here]'s 2012 campaign platform.

Studies show it is now 83% truthiness.

Right before Tony grabbed him by the collar and took him to his perch above the fray.

And he says neither “buckle up” nor “pucker up”. He says “clench up”.
