Guy made a video of himself having sex with a woman. All his friends want to watch. He says no. Then he sips a Sam Adams. Cut to scene of all the boys watching TV with a girl moaning like a porn star.
Now, I’m a pig. Seriously, I’m the piggiest, sickest person I know.
But damn, even I thought this commercial was tasteless as hell.
I dislike the whole series in that Sam Adams concept. Do you really want a drink that after you take a swig you take leave of your senses and are open to any suggestion from anyone who happens to be around?
I live in Minneapolis, and I’ve seen the commercial(s). Saw the one in the OP just this weekend in fact. Some of them are amusing, but the one in the OP is just disgusting.
Ok, now you’ve got my two cents worth, lol, carry on.
I live in Atlanta, and it’s not banned here either. I’m not offended by by the spot, but I think the whole series is kind of stupid for the same reasons Homebrew mentioned.
I thought it was pretty funny. In the same vein there was a car commercial a few years back that featured a couple returning the wrong tape to the video store. The video store proceeded to play the tape on the VCR for all the store to see. That one was funny to.
There’s a bit of a difference there. It’s one thing when strangers are watching a home video of two people having sex, it’s a different thing when someone’s friend(s) want to watch the tape. That scene in Trainspotting always bugged me where the main character (it’s been a while) steals his friend’s home video and replaces it with a soccer video so he won’t notice, and then goes home and watches it. I admit, I’ve got some cute friends, but I wouldn’t want to steal a video of them having sex, no matter how much I lust after them. It’s just supper creepy when the act is conscious and intentional.
As for the rest of the campaign, I don’t like it. I’ve seen the other three (including the transexual one), and I don’t think they’re any good. They’re not very creative, and all pretty lame. The only one I kinda like is the one where the guys tell their buddy that he was going to ask his soon-to-be-fiance for a prenup. It’s just funny watching her walk by and smack them with her purse at the end of the commercial. But, like most commercials nowadays, they suck.
The one with the couple returning the wrong tape was funny ~ because it was an accident.
In the commercial mentioned in the OP, the woman in the video obviously has no clue that the guy’s friends are watching it. That’s the part that makes it creepy and sick.
And for some reason I have the preconceived notion that a beer such as Sam Adams should have more class than that. This is much more on the level of Budweiser (not that it would be acceptable from them either.)
Well, Sam Adams has a problem with these commercials, mainly that the scenario is almost plausible.
Everyone’s missing the point of the commercials, which would seem clear and yet absurd with another product–it’s not the alcohol, but the GREAT TASTE that’s made the guy completely forget what he was talking about.
Imagine these commercials with Cheetos or Pepsi or White Castle burgers as the product instead. In those situations, the distraction is comical. With alcohol, it’s completely possible (though after a few beers–not a single sip, as shown).
