Well if that is your idea of logic you are entitled to your opinion, I personally would prefer a gradual swing to the right until we see an improvement and then hold it there
You, of all people, should avoid accusing others of confusing logic and opinion.
So let’s get back to these right wing policies you feel are needed, and let’s set a backdrop to the conversation.
Now out of interest, what do you see as the best approach to address this concern? Encouraging immigration from young migrants who are of workplace age is clearly out as far as you’re concerned, so what do you propose? Considering your age, I’m guessing you’re not keen on some form of Logan’s Run style cull, even if we raise the age limit to 75. So, what do you reckon should be done?
Quoting the BBC is the same as quoting the bible of the left.
Last year I read an article that warned that the U.K. will face growing unemployment due to increased technology that will take over many of the manual jobs carried out by the low paid, admin. jobs are already being carried out by computers many other of these job will disappear. Google are about to start tests in London with their driverless cars, How long before night time street cleaning will be carried out by driverless vehicles, taxi’s could go the same way. you may have noticed this creeping technology in your supermarket, my local B & Q used to have a line of manned tills now there is just one the others are now self check outs, nobody was sacked they were not replaced when they left because their jobs have disappeared. We are going to see Driverless trains on the underground in the very near future that will put an end to many more jobs, I am talking of decades not the next centaury.
One of the reasons given for open door immigration was that there were vacancies that needed filling the truth is that they were low paid and not a living wage that is why they remained unfilled. The real reason for open door immigration was to flood the jobs market and in doing so bring down wages and the result is a reduction of living standards for the working class.
The story you are being spun is pure fantasy, we now have an aging population of people who were originally migrants, what is your solution allow more migrants in who will grow older to increase our aging population. The truth is that we need to reduce our population naturally to a sustainable level. With a rising population density we are rapidly becoming overpopulated, the increase in rage crime is on the increase, this is one of the symptoms of overcrowding.
WE are coming to the end of an era in the way that we are governed, the middle ground is disappearing and the public opinion is becoming polarised, I think that in this decade we are going to see major changes in the U.K. and the rest of Europe
The Mail on line is a free on line news paper, I actually purchase the Telegraph
Seriously, is that the best you can do? How about the Financial Times:
or maybe the Wall Street Journal:
Seriously, try harder. I can find cites all day long showing this, because it’s an undeniable fact. Birth rates have dropped, people are living longer, leading to an obvious conclusion.
So what is your solution?
And here’sthe telegraph:
At 72 I am part of a growing army of semi retired workers who’s work ethic and experience is starting to be recognised by employers and I think this is the way to go. At 75 I do not see Logan’s run but I do see it as an age when people can take full retirement. The truth is there is a growing number of people who do not want to retire and should be treated as a valuable asset. I am a salesman of high end spirits I only need a bottle to sample as product training (lucky me) and I am working.
As a young man I swung a pick axe for a living now they use a JCB to do in a day what took me a week to do, we are seeing less manual work these days and the man with experience coming to the fore. How will the government finance pensions? Possibly with a technology tax as industry will be saving financially on a smaller workforce with a higher production yield.
The Beeb is certainly fallible but I’ll put the BBC’s reputation for accuracy against the Daily Mail’s (or indeed the Telegraph’s) any day. I’ve already cited a major DM story above that turned out to be entirely false.
So - “Change is happening. This frightens me. We need to take it out on the immigrants.” Very compelling. It works particularly well if you read this in Phil Hartmann’s “Unfrozen Caveman Lawyer” voice.
Funnily enough, there’s quite a lot of evidence that immigrants start many new businesses. So immigrants are not just sucking up vacancies; they’re creating new jobs too. And that applies both to the US…
…and to the UK.
It’s very easy to look at what immigrants take from the societies they join while ignoring the many benefits they provide, but it’s not very honest.
Which is largely the result of right-wing policies which disadvantage the working class while benefiting the richest members of society, expanding the income inequality gap while scapegoating immigrants at the same time.
And particularly relevant given the recent rebuff the horrible “Roosh V” and his PUA crew had to their plans to hold an event in Scotland. Of course Roosh etc don’t represent all Americans despite having quite a large following online - but neither do the groping idiots represent all Muslims.
I attended the anti-Pegida demonstration in Dublin on Saturday. There were something like 500-1000+ antifascists of various backgrounds. Pegida managed to muster somewhere from 8-16 people for their Irish launch.
It must be great to have the time to read all these heavy weight news papers, I personally do not and some times have trouble finishing the Telegraph due to other commitments.
I try not to be a critic that has no personal viewpoint, I try to think outside of the box and hopefully add something to the debate, I am not the one who continuously demands proof (one of the reasons I cut and paste the DM.) I tend not to be Hyde bound by dogma and my viewpoint could be different next Monday to today’s. What is happening in mainland Europe is happening at such a pace a great deal of the data and thinking is skewered.
Well done we have something in common I to believe in physically supporting something I believe in and you were right to attend I also agree that fascism should be challenged, that is why I verbally condemn groups such as BNP and NF and some elements within the EDL. When I first came on to this board I admitted I am leaning to the right of politics and that I supported the EDL on** some points** This has been taken by some to believe that I am the rebirth of the Nazi party. The reason that I agree with the EDL on **some points ** is that I did not rely on news reports I took the time and trouble to go to a demo and speak to them and yes there was the usual idiots getting drunk and causing a problem, the majority were sober decent working class who talked sense and were not racist thugs, I try to talk to both sides on a demo and try to get an even opinion and once you get past the Leninists on one side and the racists on the other side you start to see areas of common concern Yes demo’s are great but do listen to both sides
In other words, all you have is an opinion, and absolutely no basis in fact to support it. I think I understand why you find the EDL an attractive option.
All the articles you are quoting are the opinions of the authors who use statistic to prove their point and most of us know that statistics and percentages can be used to prove or disprove a subject depending on how they are presented. I can tell someone that a beverage is successful with 80% of its market place and is a brand leader. what I am not telling them is that the market place is young adults between 18 and 20, If I increase the age range to between 18 and 25 their market share drops to 40% and they are no longer the brand leader. May I ask where your knowledge of the EDL comes from. have you sat down and had a decent conversation with them or are you relying on other peoples opinions expressed through the media?.
Congratulations. You have now fallen into Simpsons level farce. “Facts are meaningless. You could use facts to prove anything that’s even remotely true!”
Funnily enough the average age of a country and it’s birth rate aren’t really numbers you can skew. I appreciate that this is inconvenient for you and your opinions, but trying to claim that somehow the various cites listed are all lying about some very straight forward statistics really isn’t a compelling argument.
OH, and yes have met members of the EDL. It didn’t make me more sympathetic to their beliefs. Quite the opposite in fact.
Here are some facts for you:
[ul]
[li]The majority of Muslims in Egypt approve of the DEATH PENALTY for those who leave Islam. [/li]
[li]More than 90% of Muslims in Tunisia, Malaysia, Indonesia, Morocco, Iraq, and Afghanistan agree that a wife must always obey her husband. [/li]
[li]Only 14% of Iraqi Muslims, 26% of Pakistani Muslims, and 22% of Egyptian Muslims say that a wife should be allowed to divorce her husband. [/li]
[li]A majority of Muslim men in Egypt, Afghanistan, Iraq, and Jordan feel that Muslim women have no right to appear in public without their faces being veiled. [/li]
[li]A majority of Muslims in Pakistan, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Jordan, Iraq, Egypt, and Lebanon say honor killings of women are justifiable punishments for pre-marital or extra-marital sex.[/li][/ul]
What happened in Germany on NYE is a predictable consequence of the arrival in Germany of a million migrants from these places.
Funny thing is we almost agree, but for entirely different reasons.
I think chaos such as the NYE issue in Cologne is inevitable when hundreds of thousands of refugees from some of the worlds poorest regions arrive en masse, fleeing carnage and war. So the trick is to ensure those conditions don’t happen. Which brings us back to the whole “why is the middle east so completely fucked” topic, which funnily enough has not much to do with religion, and huge amounts to do with the predictable consequences of imperialist meddling.
I agree. Arab and Islamic imperialism has been absolutely devastating, all the way from West and North Africa, to Central and South Asia.
All your links are about immigrants though. None of them are about refugees.
Do we know that these two groups behave identically economically? As your link about Canada illustrates, governments often focus on attracting particular sorts of immigrants, and expend effort on filtering the flow of immigrants.
Oh this should be good.
Could you please give a list of what you see as the key events in Arab/Islamic imperialism over the last 100 years or so?
At times like this, I really miss Collounsbury. I also really understand why it was only a matter of time before he got banned for swearing at people.
Bear in mind that you are asking for a follow up from a post who is explaining elsewhere why Obama is factually a Muslim.
