OK, Somebody Shoot Me (or, strange cravings)

Right now, it’s noon, and I’m hungry. No surprise there.

But for some reason, I’m craving K&W Cafeteria.
That’s nothing strange except…I hate K&W Cafeteria (not that I have anything against them in particular, but caf. food always reminds me of elementary school).

So I was wondering: what are some of the other strange cravings you folk out there have had?

Ah, yes. A few days after i quit smoking i took to eating paper, preferably heavy paper like oak tag.

I read about pica to see if that fit me and then i started to eat celery sticks instead and now it’s ok.

When i was a kid i loved eating earsers- the kind that smell like plasticky bubble-gum and are shaped like dinosaurs.

And worms. I don’t eat them, but earthworms just look like they should taste good.

Once in a while I crave an egg salad sandwich. I never eat one, though, because I hate egg salad.

My strongest cravings are for hot peppers. I eat them by the jar full. I can’t stop! It is so painful and my nose runs and my eyes water, but I’m addicted! Mmmm, just thinking about that spicy, vinegary taste…

You’re right! They look like they’d be kind of sweet, kind of salty, with a really cool texture.

Of course Tequila worms are delicious (or so I convince myself once I’ve reaced the bottom of the bottle).

Oh, Christ! My wife recorded Regis on Monday, and they had some dude who scarfed down 94 night crawlers, like he was eating spaghetti with his hands. Freakin’ gross.

I’m partial to Dove Dark Chocolate and shots of Reddi Wip, but I guess that’s not too strange.

Hey, blessedwolf, are we related?

First sign of fall I begin to crave those mallow creme pumpkins. Oh, how I love them.

Never had those. Are they anything like the foam Circus Peanuts? I crave those once in a while, but then I get over it.

BTW: Any pregnant women or mothers who want to gross us all out are cordially invited to do so.

No, not like Circus Peanuts. Although I love those, too. Talk about a food with absolutely no nutritionally redeeming qualities…

No, think candy corn. Pumpkins made out of the same stuff as candy corn. Except in some ethereal way…better. Can’t explain it.

whenever I’m out late drinking, the only thing I ever crave is:

GYRO’s, big, fat, double-meat and full of lamb

<yum>

The downside is, of course, that you wake up with gyro breath, which is second only to cigar-mouth in the icky-morning-mouth category.
<blech>

Sometimes when I break out a can of Alpo for my dog and I am really hungry, I start looking at it. It smell good, like beef stew. It looks good, nice rich gravy. I have never taken the ultimate step and tasted it, but I have been tempted.

As for cravings where I actually eat the object of desire - every once in a while I just need a big ol’ spoonful of peanut butter.

Twice a year, it’s Spam.
We keep it around the house for some such emergency.

…and, let’s face it: if I’m craving Spam, it’s gotta be some kind of emergency.

Mustard.

Don’t ask me why.

I won’t eat it straight, but the sandwich I put it on is SLATHERED in it. A TON. And it has to be a specific kind from a local deli, too. Damn, now I’m hungry. Poo on you!

I eat Altoids like nobody’s business, especially when I’m writing. Quite possibly my day of infamy was the day before all of my college applications were due to guidance- Over the 12 hour essay writing/ filling out random stuff marathon, I ate a whole tin.

That would be a large one.

I was just not normal for an entire week.

andygirl, you think that’s bad, when I get a tin of altoids and I get my craving I can down a tin and a half a them a day for about a week, It’s a rather expensive habit. I also get cravings for Limon chips and Dr. Pepper when I’m at school, it’s kind of odd.

Kitty

Another vote for Altoids (gotta be the cinnamon ones) and Dr. Pepper.

i eat lots of croutons, just by themselves.
i will also grab a spoon and eat a few spoonfuls of coolwhip.

this is probably the weirdest and most peculiar:

i take some cottage cheese, put it in a bowl. then put sharp shredded cheddar on top, and dip tortilla chips in it.

Oh my god, I’m chowing down on Altoids right now (OK, they’re not as good as Fisherman’s Friend–Extra Strong, but they’re good)

Now that sounds just plain tasty.

For the past week and a half I’ve THE strongest craving for eggs. Any eggs, cooked any way. Just gimme EGGS. is now hungry

Other unusual cravings I’ve had in the past are:
Gherkins - full gherkins fresh from the jar. Mmm…
Pickled onions - see above…
Nutella - I used to go through packs of these, then one day I just stopped…
Kraft Cheddar Cheese - I can go through a block of this stuff SO easy…
Tomato/cheese/mayonnaise sandwiches - Yum…
Raw onion/thick slice of cheese/mayonnaise sandwiches - see above…

heads for the fridge

I’ve been having a thing with eating Cheez-it’s with a nice glass of Chocolate milk. Sure it sounds odd, but tastes pretty good.

Pie crust dough–not cooked pie crust, but the dough, which is basically flour and shortening.
Canada mints–I will eat them compulsively, until I get a huge headache.
