It is very intense. My wife and I stay up to eleven to watch, then we discuss teh episode for another half hour, just because we’re so keyed up.
Well, her naked back is just fine, but I wouldn’t object to see the other side of her… character.
The scripts are written by Ron Moore, who also wrote “Star Trek: First Contact”, IMHO the best SF movie ever made. The same dark, tense atmosphere pervades BSG.
I agree. It’s her nipples that should glow. Mmmmm … number six nipples …
Er, pardon me. I’ll be in my … bunk.
I want to like this show, but it’s just not happening. The effects are nicely realistic and gritty, the actors are pretty good overall, it has a tense and dark mood, but the writing just kills it for me. Wow, the entire crew and many civilians have been awake for 130+ hours straight, making hyperspace jumps every 33 minutes, that’s like totally hardcore man! Hey, look, Starbuck cut her way into a crashed Cylon Raider, plugged the hole with her spacesuit and a glob of spit, figured out how to fly it despite its biomechanical nature and resultant lack of physical controls, took it up into hard vacuum and back to the Galactica! Ooh, the fleet spent nearly half its fuel reserves looking for Starbuck, that’s awesome solidarity man. Oh but they can make the hard sacrifices too, like destroying that civilian ship the Cylons rigged with nukes before it could take out the Galactica. OK, so that last one I can buy, except that the ship went down a little too easily to a few bursts of fire from 2 Vipers.
The 4 hr pilot was very, very, very good. Probably some of the best SciFi I’ve ever seen. Forget everything you know about the original TV series. This is dark, and edgy, and serious. If there is any way you can get access to the pilot, watch it. You won’t be disappointed.
The follow-on episodes have been pretty good. I’m wondering, though, if they can keep this up as a weekly series without deteriorating into standard soap opera bromides. At any rate, this show is so much better than “Enterprise”, it doesn’t even bear comparison.
Ya know what, I take it back. I found a copy of the pilot at Blockbuster and just finished watching it.
Holy frack, that was some frackin awesome stuff. Olmos and McDonnel are pretty amazing, and most everyone else is pretty solid. Starbuck is a bit loony, and that other stuff still bugs me a little, but not nearly so much. Screw Star Wars, Battlestar Galactica is where it’s at.
I agree with almost all of the compliments in the thread above, but I just can’t get excited about the regular episodes, which I find fairly dull (not Enterprise dull, but dull). I just can’t get up any enthusiasm to watch it.
I think the problem is that there’s not quite enough opportunities for fresh, original conflict; the episodes will mostly be repetitions of the same limited menu: crew-Cylon conflict and crew-crew conflict. On the plus side, there seems to be Cylon-Cylon conflict as well, which is a nice touch.
My biggest complaint is that there’s just too much sex. It’s filler, my friends; a cheap substitute for good writing. There are near infinities of sex available at the click of a mouse – we don’t need it cluttering up what’s supposed to be a serious program.
If that seems contradictory to you; i.e., it’s too dull and there’s too much sex, just understand that to my mind, there’s no contradiction at all.
I didn’t find Enterpise dull at all. No, I found it agressively suckful.
You need to get out less.
I loved BSG. My only gripe is the cliffhanger season end. Bring on the resolution!
