Nobody but one of us would hide 15th Century books under a pile of Hot Rod Monthly as a prank.

You & your madcap sense of fun.

(Bolding mine)
I’d like to take credit for it, but it’s not my style to leave slices of processed meat with 15th Century writings on them in public libraries.

Well, don’t look at me. I gave up historical pranks after nearly getting busted for that whole “Shroud of Turin” gag.
snort
My best historical gag was the Moon Landing.
::::snork::::What a bunch of maroons!
There is no publication entitled Hot Rod Monthly.
There were no Dopers (in the sense you used the term) in 1986.
Bologna, indeed.
Maybe there was, in 1496.
Nyyaaah!

Actually, given the title of the book, it was more likely Town & Country.

I cannot tell a lie. I put it there. But I was told it was a Gothic bible, and not being interested in that, I never actually looked closely at it.
It wasn’t me!
I was busy writing Shakespeare’s lost play.
Bologna…bacon…
Hmmmm.
I’m hungry.
Wasn’t me. I tend to avoid books of that age (disconcerting tendency to fall apart in my hands).
