I love how people try to influence economic outcomes with debased currencies.
Hey Poster X, I was giving you the benefit of the doubt but now I don’t RESPECT you! Ph34r my respect and its retraction!
I don’t think there has ever been a Pit thread against a long time poster where someone’s long time respect was not capriciously retracted.
It’s always been a funny thing on this board how people bandy their respect as some sort of social currency. I think it happens more often here than on other boards. At least other boards that I frequent.

Well fine, but good luck buying that pinball machine (or eating) in our new post apocalyptic regime without it…

He didn’t say “long time” respect; he said “possible” respect. It is, of course, possible that said respect has never existed.
It could be a valuable weapon, under some circumstances, albeit rather a blunt one. If Poster A is losing it, and Poster B - happening to be a poster whom Poster A has respect for - comes along and says that Poster A is losing Poster B’s respect, well, that may cause Poster A to think.

Put down your Obama pom-poms, remove your “hate Clinton” goggles, and read my post, again, noting what I actually posted.
That’s the noise the outgoing howitzers made in 'Nam: OBAMA-pom-pom, OBAMA-pom-pom! I don’t remember any weapons that made a sound like “Hilary-anything”. Don’t know about the goggles.
My question is, does tom have to wait until every ass-sucker on the board chimes in before he replies, as Lib requested? Because that could take some time.

Things just get weirder and weirder here. My psychotic patients make more sense than some of these threads…
Some of these threads? Sounds like thread quality is finally improving around here.
All of the smiley faces available cannot justify that crack made in any post by you. If it was a serious question, couldn’t you say that in email? If it wasn’t serious, maybe it should be handled the way you would any other problems with brains that don’t function well. Don’t ridicule it.
Some of us are trying very hard to fight ignorance about mental illness. Suggesting that it is something to be ridiculed by using a question that is constantly used to taunt the mentally ill in public is juvenile.
Lib, you read too much into what Tom was saying. But more importantly…
I support Obama and have for many months. One of the reasons that I support him is that he seems to want to change the mindset that would comment on the size of “her ass” and “those pantsuits.” There are reasons that I didn’t support her and they have to do with real issues. You remember issues, don’t you?
Are women who expressed their frustration and anger by shouting and picketting with signs “frothing Hillary Whores”? Do you think that loud women are “whores”? Maybe you were talking about some other group.
If you are not going to be part of the change, why are you supporting Obama?
I hope you find some peace in all of this. I have tender feelings for you, you know.

My, yes. Mental illness is so amusing! Tra la la.

Oh, get over yourself, Zoe. Mental illness-hell, any illness-can be amusing. LIFE is amusing.
Jesus, sometimes jokes like this can be funny-this was one of those times. Please do NOT try and speak for the rest of us, mmmkay?
-Guin, who, as most of you are aware, suffers from Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder. And who is not offended. And who has used the same type of comments in the past.
Yabbut, the thing is, Lib does go off his meds and meltdown, sometimes. It’s not like he’s some poster with mental issues that Tom decided to randomly sneer at. And Tom and Lib have a history that goes way back, so, again, it’s not like it’s some random snipe.

I have two points. I don’t see why citing the rules is junior modding. Isn’t that why you actually publish them rather than just keep them secret — so members can cite them when necessary? And B, is it right for you to justify the jerkish behavior of the thread shitter by saying that **Shayna ** had it coming? Isn’t that eerily like saying that if a pig didn’t want to be raped, it should put on some clothes?
. . .
If you wouldn’t mind, after all the mods and ass-suckers have chimed in to defend you, please address my complaints. Thank you. God bless you. And God bless America.
Citing the rules is not junior modding: ordering another poster to behave in a particular way while claiming that the poster has violated a rule is junior modding.
Noting that everyone perceives their own ox being gored is not the same as claiming that anyone deserved to suffer an injured ox.
That’s especially true since their history goes back so far. I know that it does. I’m not a newbie myself
And if he’s not sneering, maybe he should leave off that big grinning emoticon.
It is a question that some people with mental illnesses are tired of hearing as a put down.
Not all of us have the same illnesses and some of us may be more sensitive than others. Some parents are more sensitive than others about what their children with devlopmental probems are called. All of it has to do with the brain and how it functions.
Besides, should Tom be asking medical questions anyway? I don’t know. Maybe it’s appropriate. Doing it in the pit? OK. Doing it in email? Better. Doing it in the pit with a grinning emotion when people defer to you is being a jerk.
Guin, I repeat, “Some of us are trying very hard to fight ignorance about mental illness.”
Fair enough. But it wasn’t my impression that the OP or the thread was about mental illness. It’s also never been my understanding that mental illness is in a special category of “things that it is never appropriate to humorously (or ironically, or sarcastically; take your pick) allude to”.
If it is, well, thanks for fighting some of my ignorance today.
All of the above aside, am I misremembering, or wasn’t there a word from on high a few years back about not making with the “off your meds” cracks? I know that we were directed to refrain from positing sexual gratification as a motivator for positions that we disagree with. I thought that mental illness jokes were proscribed at about the same time…

Perhaps other peoples respect means nothing to you, but to some it does. If people told me that the things I was saying were crossing the line and having a negative impact on the way they viewed me then I would be inclined to rethink how I’m presenting myself.
