Oklahoma? More like Oklahomo, bitches!

This is the first time that a state constitutional amendment has been struck down, right? Or was California constitution amended? This is the first I remember hearing the EPC being used for gay marriage by a judge.

That’s South Carolina.

See? As soon as we allow gay marriage, the talk immediately turns to bestiality. Scalia was right!

Anyway, the law is about tripping horses. I think that if a horse wants to eat those kinds of mushrooms, it’s up to the horse.

Back to the thread: Congrats to OK!

No, the stay was issued contemporaneously. So any window of opportunity would have been a matter of seconds .

The California constitution was amended. That was what the whole Prop 8 thing was about.

These guys look happy

Wait, is Stiff the Horse a euphemism? Man, I gots to keep up with my slang…and apologize for accidentally stiffing that waitress the other night.

Doyou?Yes!Doyou?Ido!Inowpronounceyoulegallymarriedbythepowervestedinme— DING! “Oops, sorry, we’re outta time here, folks.”

Not just California either; the judge in the Utah case voided the constitutional amendment banning SSM there as well.

What about if you suddenly get a nasty taste in your mouth and have nowhere else to spit but the sidewalk? :frowning:

By definition, there’s a perfectly good road next to you to spit on.

Well, you just walk 3 feet to either side and spit in the grass or even the street. How large are the sidewalks where you live? Is your entire town one large sidewalk?

This article on Slate.com sums up why this particular ruling is a big deal.

Basically, for the past 15 years, the SCOTUS has reasoned indirectly that gay marriage should be legal, but have kept the ruling very narrow and obscured the big picture reasoning of just what rights gays deserve. What the Oklahoma judge did was basically take the Kennedy’s tone and apply that to his reasoning. He’s going to force the SCOTUS to determine just what rights gays have and not dodge the question anymore. Either its wrong to discriminate against gays and all state anti-gay laws are invalid, or, as the article puts it, Kennedy has to rule on something he doesn’t agree with

Not really too much of an issue in most of the greater OKC area. About the only neighborhoods with sidewalks are gated communities or really old ones. Some exceptions do exist, but generally, yards go all the way to the street, sometimes without even a curb. Yes, in city limits.

Alas, with the stay, I will have to wait to enjoy the sound of reactionary Oklahoman heads exploding. I imagine that when the first official, recognized gay marriage is performed there, it will sound like the celebratory popping of a string of firecrackers, made delicate by distance.

I call that oil-boom design. I think neighborhoods like that were often laid out on the assumption that their denizens would all have cars and drive absolutely everywhere.

That’s what cops’ faces are there for, silly!

I laughed out loud.

This is a euphemism, right?

Well since you’re new, I’ll skip the razor sharp sarcastic response and just say read post #26.

Nathan is a small dog, a dachshund, so could only take a small bite. We couldn’t get inside the 9 foot privacy fence that links all the Phelps houses and the church either, so his…output… would have no effect either.

You should see that whole block, of barracks style houses, with some open ground and the church building, remodeled from a house as well. There’s one house on the section that does not belong to them, and it’s hilarious to see how the privacy fence has to jink around it. It must be weird to have the WBC so close like that. I think I’d paint my house pink or something.

Maybe I should RTFT for once. :smack:
