I’ve lived in Kitchener Ontario for about 7 years now…and have never been to Oktoberfest (Or anything to do with it). Well, Mnemosyne and I were chatting and the topic of getting together for Oktoberfest came up.
I’ve talked with a couple of people so far and they are interested.
They include:[ul][li]Mnemosyne (Of course.)[/li][li]Curious Canuck[/li][li]Harli[/li][li]Trinity[/ul][/li]Don’t know much about what happens there, but I do know there is beer, sausages, and frauleins!!!
It takes place from Friday October 10 2003 to Saturday October 18 2003, so, anyone who’s local, how’s about it? (Anyone can come, of course…I was just looking for a get together and not something huge like ChiDope or anything…but whatever. )
(CC, since you said you’ve been to Octoberfest before, I’m gonna be picking your brains for ideas.)
Well, as for ideas, all that I have ever really done there was find the beer tents, watch people in leiderhosen, drink for steins that can pull muscles they are so big, and dance with the ladies…
But we have plenty of time to plan specifics
Oh… and one more thing. Boobies are nice.
Sounds good to me (though you knew that already - this is just to bump the thread ).
I tend to go back to Quebec for Thanksgiving, so the Friday or Saturday the 17th/18th would be best for me. Unless we do some crazy middle-of-the-week-thing, in which case…well, I dunno. Guess we’ll have to see!
And I’ll be sure to bring my boobies along too, as long as you can guarantee some young Herren (sp?) along with the frauleins!
Some people don’t really like the flavor of Oktoberfest Bier, I recommend a good back-up alternative…Bavarian Weissbier, which is served at he Munchen Oktoberfest usually on slow turning carousels…(don’t ask why, I have no idea who came up with that sensible idea).
Don’t smear that sweet, brown goop (semmel?) on the weisswurst, offer it as a condiment.
John - this is a big Oktoberfest party thrown by a city, not in someone’s back yard! So the choice of beer is somewhat out of our hands, although I am willing to bet a bunch of breweries are likely to be participating. Wanna drive up to Kitchener from Long Island? Sounds like you’d fit in
Yes, I’m reviving an old thread.
I know Kwyjibo has been quite busy lately, but I was wondering if there is still interest in this Dopefest, and if so, whether we were aiming for the first or second weekend of the Oktoberfest.
If we’re planning on the final weekend, I’m out. My brother’s getting married, so no can do
The second weekend is better for me - we’re switching things up a little and having family come HERE for Thanksgiving…though nothing is officially settled.
See what happens when we plan 18 weeks ahead of time? Everything falls apart 14 weeks in!!
So I guess I’m in a bit of a “we’ll have to see” position.
I grew up in K-W, I’m living in Thunder Bay right now, but I’ll be back for Thanksgiving/the starting of Oktoberfest.
I’m relatively new (I’ve lurked for a while, but only began posting recently and sporadically) so I don’t think I’d attend a Dopefest, but if you PM me or post, you can pick my brain for ideas too.
I’ve worked there (At Heidelberg Haus, to be exact. AKA Moses Springer Arena), and could probably answer any questions anyone has. (About the city-run facilities anyway, though the private ones aren’t much different)
The city events aren’t everything though, there are private clubs that are associated with the festival; the Concordia Club is probably the best place for Oktoberfest… if you can get tickets for there, I’d recommend it, every person I’ve ever know agrees. Stompin Tom will be there on the first Tues, if that’s your thing. I have tickets there so I’ll be drinking at the CC this year.
At the city-run locations, IIRC, the only pitchers availible are Molson Canadian (Molson is a HUGE sponsor of the event) I seem to also recall that you can get bottles of Brick too (local brewery)
