I use a rubber scraper and scrape it all out. That’s what Mom, who lived through the Great Depression, did. Why waste any of it? Besides, think of the pagan babies who are starving; you shouldn’t waste any food. (if you didn’t go to Catholic school in the late 50s/early 60s, you may not understand this reference; I particularly remember Sr Regina in 1st grade exhorting us about bringing in nickels and pennies to help the pagan babies and telling us to finish all our food since we have it and they don’t.)
Once again they’re f’ing lying.
metal mouse/taters oh, good tip, I’ll try to go to Belle Tire tomorrow to check the air level in my tires. My Fusion is a 2014 and doesn’t have low-air warning.
If you have an extra hour or so, I’d suggest going up to Griffiths Observatory. Daughter insisted we go there when we went to the Rose Bowl and I’m glad we did.
No need at all. You were checking to see if I knew of a site that you knew would be valuable to me. I hope my response didn’t come off snarky.
Please enjoy your evening and I hope everyone has a restful sleep tonight.
He checks our tire pressure once a month unless more often is called for. I know that all five tires have pressure sensors but it would take me a minute to figure out what the gauges are telling me.
I decided to renew my RE license. It isn’t horrible expensive for a hobby, I’m not constantly buying supplies (thread, canvas, plants, plant food, etc.) after I’ve paid the initial cost and I do like being able to open other people’s kitchen cabinets.
So I don’t know much about Scottish pigeons but the ones on this side of the ocean are kinda dumb and their nest making leaves much to be desired. If the fledglings are ready to go, maybe let them go on their way and then drag your garden hose over and spray all the twigs and sticks down. Once the nest is down, spray the area with Neem oil to disguise the smell of home.
That worked with a pigeon that was trying to make a nest in a fender, but putting a nest in a fender wasn’t that smart either.
And stinky trash attracts javalina.
I’ve found that icing spatulas work best for condiments, they are narrow enough to fit through the neck and semi-flexible for mayo jars.
Or the glass walls around the toilet???
The worse I saw was back in AZ, it was Barbie pink. All of it was Barbie pink, the exterior, the roof, the carpet, the sinks and toilets and everything. With gold and BRIGHT Barbie pink accents.
It had a lovely view and a very nice lot, but the buyer would have had to take it down to the studs and start over.
If Harry could smite people, a whole lot of people would be running around with their hair on fire. The data center workers aren’t happy about a bunch of armed hillbillies (official census designation is Appalachian Americans) hanging out in the woods watching them.
They are trying intimidation and bringing in law enforcement to get them to leave, which isn’t working so now the Chestnut gang is worried about chemical warfare. If the Chestnut trees are gone, all resistance will be gone as well.
(They are using psych tactics now. There are “hidden” snares surrounding the grove. If the wires are tripped, the most that will happen is a bang or some smoke, but the dozer drivers don’t know that.)
Same, girlfriend. Same.
I’m actually more concerned about him telling us about it when it happened. I didn’t see him saying it was his fault, but you know how lawyers can be.
My poor mother. She worked so hard with me and my spelling lists. The ONE time I got a hundred on a spelling test, she took us all to Farrell’s for sundaes. My collegiate dictionary has a worn spot on the spine where I rubbed the gold leaf off.
Then came spell-check. All of her work was for naught. I spend more time proofing emails to her than I did proofing my Master’s thesis because I can still hear her sigh.
SO upsetting! And wasteful. My phone is starting to heat up when I use the GPS and the battery isn’t lasting as long as it did three years ago. It ticks me off that I"m going to have to buy a new $$$ phone when my current one does everything needed.
Hubs holds Jolene like a rifle and points her at birds so she can go akakakak. This entertains all of us.
Didn’t we see that on a Twilight Zone episode? Some poor guy answers his phone and gets vaporized? I agree, that sounds like not a lot of fun, but a least he wouldn’t need to get dressed up for it.
Yeah, I keep hearing that shit too. What’s up with that anyhow?
I’m sorry they didn’t have any good news, living with chronic pain just sucks.
Or you can call them something obscene with a smile and nice voice and they will smile and nod right back at you? Then you get to mentally point and make fun again.
Yeah, I thought I would have more time now that I’m retired. Where does it all go?
They keep adding more details to their story. I guess the first version didn’t fly so they are trying to pad it better.
How’s Maisie with that? Will she pee in your son’s yard? Critters are so strange at times.
Good luck with the zapping. I hope this will be the last time.
So after Harry came over for coffee and cookies, and his Raven got its cashews - he digs through the bird seed and throws everything on the ground if I don’t get a handful of cashews out for him fast enough, Hubs and I went off to the distillery. I got a bottle of Tiramisu and one of chocolate, he got a bottle of bourbon.
Then we went to the good Asian buffet and were surprised that there were open parking spots and no crowd. Its always been pretty full in the past, I hope they are able to stay open.
After that we drove north to what is now MY plant nursery. There are seven acres of green houses, and the workers are super friendly and knowledgeable. They didn’t have what I wanted but will order it for me if I call in March. Spring is also a good planting time, so that’s what I will do.
I felt very badly for poor Hubs, he’s going for another stress test tomorrow morning and couldn’t have coffee this morning or chocolate this evening. No coffee tomorrow morning either. He says I don’t need to go with, but last time he had one of these, he ended up getting a stent. I will be up and dressed so he can call me if he needs to go to Charleston.
If your phone is a mid to high end one, it may behoove you to go to a phone shop to have the battery replaced. Make sure they are certified if you’re dealing with an iPhone, but the company that I used to work for (Asurion) has store fronts to repair phones (they may go by U Break I Fix in your neck of the woods.
Evening all. Would have sworn I posted something this afternoon, but guess not. Gym time was spent, followed by refereeing (those 8-year olds can run the pants of an old guy like me). Then stopped to exchange the U7 medals for ones with updated ribbons that look a little fancier. And then finally stopped at SONIC for cheeseburger and fries, with some snackage afterward, so calories are all caught up (scale says 201.4lbs today, so must be doing something right). Am in full sloth mode now and ought to sleep well tonight (at least as well as my bladder lets me). Was a nice day, temperature about 72F during the day, but down to 56F now and heading into the 40’s.
And now about 30 messages to catch up on. Scroll initiative activated!!
Taters, my car does to, give me a warning screen if I get below 30psi and also up-to-date readings (34-36psi right now). And while I don’t read real estate prices around here, I have occasionally looked when I’m in other areas/countries and pass an office with house ads, just to see what they cost (usually a lot).
rocky, I’m with you, we still have 12 days left and it seems like the month should be over with already.
Nut, good luck with the pigeons, sound like the humans are just as big a pain.
Cookie, ouch! for daughter, I’ve never busted a rib (yet) but can’t imagine that it feels very good. And an 85 year old falling and busting a hip is usually very bad news, my best wishes for the lady.
FCM, I try to pay my card a couple days before the due date, but paying every time is not how the thing works…but given it is BIL and he got took awhile ago, I doubt he’ll be breaking out of that habit.
Dicey, hope the ear check and the repair can be coordinated successfully.
52, hope the belly problems have receded. And I’m not that easy to dispose of…
VanGo, glad it’s nothing serious, outside of getting old. I know about old.
Oopsie, have a great end-of-the-year trip! And first class for a 5+ hour flight is the way to go if your budget can stand it. Domestic 1st class isn’t quite as spectacular as international, but you will still appreciate it, I’m sure.
nellie, sounds like the toothbrush committed suicide… And sounds like you are having a ball with the doggies…tried to make friends with a Great Dane pup at the soccer game, but he’s still in the ‘chew everything, including hands’ stage, so not too many scritches.
JtC, hope the Real Estate license isn’t too much of a bother to renew. And thanks for the update on the hillbillies vs the Data Centers–rooting for the West Virginians, wish it was getting more coverage. And sounds like a good day out…booze, buffet, and plants. Best wishes to Hubs (and you).
Bright Tree, I’ll drop you an PM.
And that’s about all the energy I have left. Take care and I’ll see you in the morning. Go watch baseball and tackleball although neither seems to be very exciting. Take care all.
Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 10c/50f with a predicted high of 11c/52f and a chance of rain. Weather app says “Mother Nature is fucking pissing on your parade.”
JtC I am so sorry to hear about James, I know how much he means to you.
Mollie I am sure there will be days when you feel some way that you don’t have an adequate description for. “Girly” sounds ideal!
Mooooom what kind of monster doesn’t scrape out the last bits from tins and jars? That’s just lunacy.
Cookie sorry to hear about the falls, I hope both daughter and wife’s sister are recovering well.
Dicey it’s definitely the grey period today, very grey and gloomy outside.
Oopsie yay for booking a trip, I hope you’ll be able to actually make this one after so many others have fallen apart for you recently. US first class air travel across country is not too shabby either, we’ve done it a few times.
metalmouse I hope you get the legal stuff sorted out without any problems, it does sound very much like someone’s been got at by the ambulance chasers. I hope it goes away quietly.
Yesterday was not such a bad day, despite having to get up early and go to campus! The travel gods were kind enough, I had an office companion I don’t see very often, and it was a largely uncomplicated day. The dept meeting went as expected, they spent 3/4 of their time on two agenda items and large scooted through the other 10 at breakneck speed. I need to get to work on the minutes today, in between my other two meetings.
'im indoors says he’s going to pick up lunch from the good Indian place today so that’ll be a treat, and I have the gym later. I’m toying with grocery shopping tomorrow instead of today, I think we have enough stuff to cover the meals we plan to make so there’s no desperate rush to do that. And it’s raining and I Don Twanna!
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN 'Tis 44 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 74 and sunny. It’s laundry day. Be still my heart. I also need to get a 'script refilled. Since the pharmacy is near Bojangle’s, think I will suggest (doubt I’ll get any argument) that we have foodstuffs from there for today’s main need to feed. That would be lunch time and any other need will be via forage. There will, of course, be RDOS sloth time.
I don’t know why I did not post anymore yestiddy. However, I did read all, but am not of the right mind to respond, so yays, boos, hugs, chitlins, trouts, noogies and how you doin’s all around, as needed.
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.
We have the gloom of Mordor today. Dawn barely put the effort in to getting light. It’s windy, but only drizzling a bit, not properly raining, though I suspect that may come later.
Barely slept last night for some reason, just woke up about 3am and couldn’t get back to sleep. Did the same on Sunday night, though at least then I nodded back off about the point my alarm should have gone off, and had an entertaining stress dream[1]
The heat pump guy showed up this time, so that’s getting done.
JtC the house is two stories and the solar panels are not accessible at all without going up a taller ladder than I am comfortable with- there’s just one spot it’s possible to even see underneath them and it’s right at the back of the garden. Reaching the nest, which is indeed scrappy, with a hosepipe would be more than a little impractical, sadly. The baby pidges are staying put for now anyway; I don’t blame them, I wouldn’t want to take my first flight today either.
I was trying to do my Pee Aitch Dee viva but no-one had remembered to book a room, so we were just wandering round trying to find a space somewhere because all the meeting rooms were booked and we kept having to leave, eventually ending up in some canteen in an office block, where they said we could stay until lunch.
Then someone showed up from the uni and said they legally needed a hard copy of the thesis before the viva could take place, but it’s OK, they could print it out there and then. They had this tiny little hand-held printer- like the ones they have at restaurants that print receipts which could print it in one long strip - except they hadn’t got enough paper and it wasn’t printing right. The guys who were supposed to be doing the viva exam were being really nice, but it was taking ages to get this tiny printer working and they kept getting distracted and involved in a conversation about their own work while we were waiting and they hadn’t asked me anything at all and we were running out of time…
Sometimes dreams are easy to interpret. ↩︎
Didn’t fall asleep till after 2, woke at 7-ish, lolled about in bed till 8-ish, but now I’m up and Otis is outside somewhere. FCD said our intrepid hunter killed a squirrel and left it outside FCD’s shop as a love offering or something.
Low 40s this morning but after it warms a bit, I’m going to plant the iris from Mom. My original plan was to put them on the landscaped hill, but I decided to put them in the bed next to the porch where I can actually see them. The lilies that are in that bed now will go on the hill. We’ll see how much I eventually get done.
Nothing else planned, and I expect after the gardening, I’ll be having ibuprofen for supper.
For now, caffeination shall continue. Happy Tuesday!
I went to pay my sister’s property taxes this morning, but the amount on the website is different from the amount on the paper bill. I’ll need to call the San Diego treasurer on my break or lunch today to see what’s what. There’s a law in California that forbids displaying the property address on the website, so I can’t see if my sister’s property is the actual address I’m paying for. I looked up the bill using the parcel number, and also by my sister’s address, and it appears I found the right record; but the amounts are still different.
The Spousal Unit is on vacation. It’s a ‘staycation’ because we can’t go anywhere together due to my job. She’s been addressing postcards that she’ll send to voters in Texas to remind them to vote. I presume that the names and addresses she was given are for registered Democrats.
Good morning! Teela’s talking about dahlias and Mollie’s comment about feeling girly caused the phrase “dahlia up” (doll you up) to start bouncing around in my skull.
Yesterday I noticed my left foot and ankle are somewhere between puffy and swollen. It’s not tender or painful, just bigger than usual. I’m imagining somebody at a doc-in-a-box looking at it, ordering an x-ray and telling me to put some mice on it. In other words, thanks for spending your insurance company’s money and wasting your time here, sign this form, go home.
There’s an assortment. One is a United Auto Workers emblem. One is a picture of Popeye with a can of spinach, with the phrase “Strength Thru Spinach” and the fine print saying Texas Spinach Growers Assn. One is an image of a bearded guy with grapes and grape leaves in his hair, which I assume makes him Bacchus/Dionysus. One is a fouled-anchor symbol of the US Navy. (I was never in the Navy, but I was an amateur sailboat racer.) One is a huge guitar-pick shaped “American Blues” buckle I got from the Joe Bonamassa website. There’s a Case knives logo, a General Motors logo, a Chevy Trucks logo, and a really nice St. Louis Cardinals buckle. I had a lovely Buick belt buckle, but it got lost in the move to Elkhart. That one is probably in a box in the garage somewhere, dangit!
Morning all. Slept pretty well, have broken fast with a Big Bowl O’Corn Flakes and will certainly…well, probably…do some things around the house. Another day that starts cool (52F) and warms up nicely (77F) and no rain in sight. Soccer practice for the U10’s tonight, but outside of that and the usual gym time, nothing formal on the agenda.
boo fae, rain is a good reason to postpone shopping, IMHO. Store and products will still be there.
Swampy, Happy Bojangling!
Nut, glad the heat pump is getting done, you’ll be needing it.
FCM, I almost never stay up until 2am, usually when I bed down between 11 and midnight I’m out rather quickly. Happy Iris planting.
Flyboy, hope there is a easy explanation to the difference in taxes, and that it is in your favor.
Knots, that’s an interesting belt buckle collection. Apparently the British Museum has belt buckles on display (albeit in gold from the 7th century) so who knows, you could be famous one day..
Pardon me, what?
And onward into the day. Might even do a couple loads of laundry and change my bedsheets…or not… Take care all.
Good Tuesday morning! Trying to get some enthusiasm going for a productive day. There’s a lot I need to do but who knows how much I’ll get around to doing. I really should make a To Do List. But first let’s check out late night and early morning posts.
hmmm, Hubs and his family called coffee cake ‘kuchen’. I would correct him that it is coffee cake.
Today would have been my parents’ 75th anniversary but they would have been 101 and 100. Might be a good day to visit the cemetery.
flyboy please tell Mrs. flyboy Thank You. Go democracy!
Reminds me of when I spent about 2 months in Eagle Pass trying to catch some spinach farmers up on all the back tax returns that they hadn’t filed.
I woke up to a brisk 37F, but the temps have risen to 40F. The morning will be partly cloudy to mostly cloudy, and the afternoon will be sunny, with a daytime high of 62F.
JtC, Maisie will both poo and pee in my son’s yard. She just won’t do it on a leash.
Nellie, you pronounce the Elisenlebkuchen like this: Pronunciation Breakdown
Eli- : e-LEE (like “eh-lee”)
-sen- : zən (like “zuhn” with a soft, unstressed “n”)
-leb- : leːp (like “layp”)
-ku- : kuː (like “koo” with a long “oo” sound)
-chen : χn̩ (like “khuhn”, ending in a soft, guttural German ch sound made at the back of the throat
I like this particular kind of Lebkuchen because it’s flourless: ground nuts, almond paste, chopped candied citrus, and spices. They have oblaten (very thin, wafer-like) on the bottom. They have a nice chew, are moist, and keep for a while. They can be glazed, plain, or coated in dark chocolate. They remind me of being in Germany with my Oma. Other kinds of Lebkuchen have some flour in them and are cakier. They’re good too, but I will take Elisenlebkuchen over any type of cookie any day.
Van Go, ugh, I hate hearing that from the doc. Did he recommend anything to help with the pain at all?
Nut, I’m glad the heating guy is there.
Metal Mouse, wishing you well with what’s happening.
I would like to run my Jeep through the car wash today. It’s dirty and needs a wash. Well, really, it’s just more “dusty” than dirty, but still. If I can muster enough energy to go out and do that, I should probably go to Costco. The pups need some Bocce Bakery treats, and I’d like to get some of the bread from the bakery. The Italian and French loaves are quite tasty.
For now, as usual, I’ll finish my coffee and peruse the 'net for a while.
