Morning.
It’s still autumnal (or fallal as i expect you’d call it in the USA) here
in merrie England, 14c/58f - or “cold” as i call it.
Utility area carpet is still wet from last weeks piss-down event, dehumidifier still working
overtime… Hope it dries soon so i can prevent further flooding.
Morning cup of tea drunk, now onto coffee.
Wordle done. Listening to James O’Brien on LBC
Time to roll g/f’s MS medication !
First! Long time since I managed that. It’s cool here, about 55F/13C here in Topeka. Mauser wants an early walk.
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis < snerk > 69! < snerk > Amurrkin out and partly cloudy with a predicted high of 87 and partly N.O.S. for the day. Thus it is Fall/Spring here in southwest Jawja. I envision mowage this mornin’. We shall see if the motivation to do so remains once the sun is up. I foresee an afternoon of high RDOS inactivities. Sup shall be fried chikin livers, smashed N.O.T. 'n gravy, peas 'n carrots, and rolls. I shall also cook the collard greens I purchased and cleanded on Sattidy. They shall be a part of tomorrow’s sup, as IMO greens are better cooked one day and re-heated the next.
pjd welcome! Hope the carpet dries out soonest. ICK!
CupCakes I imagine what Mauser wants, Mauser gets.
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.
Happy Moanday Y’all!
Every time I think it’s getting truly autumnal, a couple of days of warmth sneak in. But if the long-range forecast isn’t lying (HAH!) it might be about to happen and I can open the windows again at night. The trees around here think it’s autumn - leaves are staring to accumulate in the yard, so when this rainy spell is gone, it’ll be time to attack that little chore.
FCD is meeting with the electrician today at the boat to see if he can figure out WTF is going on. This morning, I’ll be here waiting for the nurse, then the aide, and either today or tomorrow, I need to make a grocery run. There’s a lot I need to do, but it’s all out of range of hearing MIL, so I’m disinclined to do it, especially after watching her bounce from one wall to the other last week. So I suppose the crocheting shall continue.
Oh, and remember how I mentioned that my social security showed up way early? Well, my pension deposit was due today, but it showed up last Thursday. All I can figure it’s end-of-fiscal-year weirdness. Let’s see what happens with my October deposits, shall we?
Happy Last September Moanday!
Thanks !
I think i should ditch the carpet. even if it is only cheapo industrial style. Tiles make
more sense - i could’ve just squeegied the water out (the dehumidifier costs money
to run !)
(But i like carpet !!)
My thoughts on installed wall-to-wall carpet are best confined to The Pit.
… for reasons including what you’re currently dealing with.
Sorry, I’m less than sparkly this morning. My brain decided that last night was a No Sleep Zone. Like, none.
All those times the other days when I b!#ched because I’d only deeply conk out for two-three hours at a time?
Screw Past Shoe and her { lah-deeh-dah } “I only got two hours sleep.”
I’d kill for that right now.
Back in Switzerland after 2 weeks in North America.
Flight left 3 hours late, which meant it departed after midnight East Coast Time arrived after noon, which messes up the whole jet lag thing even more.
As is common on this flight, there were about 3 dozen Hasidic Jews. When one of the local police set off an alarm by coming into the terminal through an alarmed door, one of the older gentlemen led the group in singing along with the alarm.
It’s so wonderful to see people who find something positive in what could be an annoying situation.
Now on the train going home. 6 hour time change + 4 hours of sleep should make for an interesting start to the week. Today is still vacation - need groceries, do laundry and unpack. And maybe mow the grass. Excitement abounds!
Good morning all. For the first morning in the last 3 days I am not being greeted by rain, the forecast shows a probably dry week with high temps around 80F, so that is acceptable weather. This is Fall Break for the kids, so need to plan for it and also try to get some make-up soccer games scheduled so will be busy with that today. Otherwise the usual 4-S (shop-sammich-swim-sauna) day for Moanday.
Dicey, welcome home, been on my share of those 12-hr midnight flights, so know what you’re going through, couple of days will hopefully get you reset. Interesting about the Hebrews and the sing-a-long.
Shoe, nappage may be in your near future; take care.
pjd, welcome and I have carpet on about 60% of my flooring, so far it has stayed (mostly) dry. Do need to clean it more often…
FCM, have had the windows open and the AC/Heat off for the entire weekend, doubt it will last long, but for now nature is cooperating with my utility bills. And yeah, this being the last day of the fiscal year, things may be a bit odd.
swampy, I need to accomplish mowage too, but it’s still pretty cloudy outside so it may take a couple days for the lawn to dry out. I’ll put it on my schedule for Wednesday and we’ll see.
Cupcakes, and how was the walk?
OK, pills taken, banana has broken my fast, and off to the store in about an hour. Take care all.
Actually, 95% of my ground floor is tiles (kitchen&dining room) or laminate (lounge) !
The only areas which have carpet are the bit at the back which i never really know
how to describe*, and the small 3x4 foot area inside the front door.
(ie, the areas most likely to get wet !)
*It’s a sort of utility/storage place. Apparently part of it used to be for coal
storage. The previous owner used it as an office, but it’s a single brick wall building
with no insulation or heating and it’s bloody freezing in winter. Our next door neighbour
refers to her similar area as her barn !
Welcome and thanks for starting this weeks MMP. Laminate is actually worse in a flood than carpets. Carpets can be dried out but laminate starts to roll at the edges and can’t be flattened.
I’d much rather have laminate than carpets though.
It was supper foggy this morning but it seems to have cleared up and the sun is out. There’s a chance of rain, but its going to dry out for a few days.
Class was cancelled this morning, the teacher has storm damage to deal with so I came home and got some laundry started. I’ve got a couple of adult phone calls to make and want to get them done before my doctor appointment. I’ll be doing more grown-up stuff afterwards so its best to get all of that tiresome stuff dealt with.
The vet left a message asking for a pic of Jolene’s belly but she’s busy kicking GG’s butt atm. I’ll wait until they settle down a big before risking my hands. Of course I’ll share, she’s healing up very nicely.
I’d call it a mud room and it definitely wouldn’t be carpeted. It’s where you’d leave muddy/wet/icky footwear before entering the house proper.
Except for the kitchen, the bathrooms, and a small area at the front door, our house is carpeted. Even the finished part of the basement (as opposed to the area with the furnace and water heater) has carpet tiles glued to the floor. I like that the carpet muffles sound and feels warmer in the winter. We had laminate in the basement at one point, and it flooded (before we addressed the grading around the foundation) and it never was quite right again. The carpet tiles are wonderful for the grands when they come visit and play down there.
Nurses have come and gone (our regular nurse had a n00b with her today. Not new to nursing, just new to this organization, so she’s learning the local ropes.) Then the aide showed up to shower MIL, and she’s done and gone, too. I didn’t breakfast, but I just had an early lunch I’ve run the dishwasher, changed our bed linens, showered, dressed, and I’ve got to good icemaker running. MIL has dozed off and I’m going back to my crocheting.
It’s dreary and has rained at some point. Definitely an indoor day.
Afternoon, mumpers! It’s currently 11c/53f with a predicted high of 13c/55f, and cloudy. That’ll explain why it’s been drizzling all day. Weather app says “I’d love to give you some fucking quote about clouds and looking on the fucking bright side, but that’s what fucking internet memes are for.” Consider yourselves told!
Welcome, pjd, and thanks for starting us off this week. Hope the carpet dries out soon enough, before the next deluge comes along.
Hopefully FCD can be around to listen out for her once he’s done at the marina, then you can get on with your stuff.
Welcome home, dicey! I hope you had a fab trip and manage to catch up with yourself quick enough.
After all the weekend excitement, I seem to have bought tix for next year’s Livefest. No idea how that happened! I had wisely booked today off work so I got a nice lie-in, and managed to get some other important stuff done.
Shadow went to the vet for his arthritis shot, he saw a different vet so he got a bonus free examination. He’s still fine, he seems to have lost a little bit of weight so we’re increasing his thyroid meds for a while and he’ll now need another thyroid check in a month when he goes back for the next arthritis shot. He seems not to be at all bothered by any of this, apart from singing me the song of his people on the way home.
As I’d got the day off, I went into town to do a few errands. My friend is leaving her job this week so I’m hoping to catch up with her while she’s still on campus and I bought her a little something for her new job. Did a few other bits in town, picked up yummy Indian food for lunch and then went out again to get some petrol and also something for dinner tonight. I need to do some serious slothing for the rest of the afternoon before I need to bestir myself to concoct food later.
Harry the Forest Fighter just dropped over to tell us that our cell phones were out because the Grafton Monster had attacked the transmitter last night.
I didn’t think I looked that gullible cause everyone knows the Grafton Monster hangs out in Taylor county, 200 miles away.
According to the boring ol’ local news, one of Verizon’s big towers got damaged by flying debris during the storm and they are working as fast as they can to restore services.
That means I won’t be making my grownup calls this morning. Bummer.
Actually what I meant was I need to be within range of hearing her if there’s a problem. She keeps trying to do stuff that she shouldn’t and someone needs to be nearby to help (even tho she claims she doesn’t need it.) Like the other day when she was looking for a snack, and opened the container of dog treats…
FCD is on his way home, pissed because the electrician still hasn’t shown up at the boat. So he’ll be cranky fun this afternoon. I think I’ll be leaving him with his mom while I run some errands.
Yep, we’re out here, too. But strangely enough our Wi-Fi which is also through Verizon is working ok.
Hash browns topped with fried eggs, side of bacon this morning. Finished both crosswords and Wordle in about 20 minutes, then off to exercise, which was surprisingly tiring. It’s going to hit 84F here today, then drop to 65F tomorrow as a cold front moves in from the northwest.
Dinner will be leftover green chili stew, which will likely be tomorrow’s dinner as well.
Oh sure. You’ve got leftovers now that I don’t want any!!!
Random thoughts while driving (Don’t panic - I’m safely back home, not behind the wheel!)
1 - There oughta be a law that all commercial and municipal building sites should have a big sign telling the populace what’s being built there. Like that obvious drive-thru restaurant (?) across from Aldi - what the heck is it?? Or that place next to the gas station - the sign is too small but I think it’s a tanning salon, maybe.
2 - Radio DJs need to keep the yammering to a minimum. Tell me the name of the song, the name of the singer, and maybe the year it was released (if you’re an oldies station.) Then just shut up. No one cares about your memories of when you were a teenager and this song was playing at the diner. Shut up!
3 - Public Radio beg-a-thons. Yes, I know it’s important - I’ve made a continuing contribution. But is it really necessary to go on and on and on?
4 - Other radio stations - what’s with the stoopit nicknames? The Beat. The Wave. The Groove. Our local one is TOC - True Oldies Channel. That tells me nothing - I need to know where you are on the dial so I can add presets in another vehicle. My radio can’t search for The Beat, or whatever.
And a non radio musing - it’s been 4 months since my seizure and the meds are apparently working fine, unless it was a flukey one-time thing that’ll never happen again. Who knows?? But I got to wondering - what if I’d been home alone when it happened? And what if it ran its course and I just assumed I’d fallen asleep when I returned to reality 4 hours later?
And I’m serious about construction sites telling what’s being built. We’ll find out eventually - why the mystery?
That’s all. Carry on.
Have to agree with this. Also, when you say “90 minutes of commercial free music” you shouldn’t keep interrupting to plug your radio station. And quit talking over the goddamned song intros!
So a lot of the packages that didn’t make it Saturday showed up today. All the Surepost pigs I was loading(5) were packed. Then I got called over to work the 200 slide, that was a mess. But I was there long enough for OT. I stopped at the ABC store on the way home, and bought gin since it was the last day of the sale. OT or not, I’m not missing $4 bucks off a fifth.
Annnddd…Spot has gone insane, and is eating his tail.
Nothing like God’s own dehumidifier and 6 giant fans drying your place after a flood to mess up your sleep.
Nap?
Can you stil make your prank calls?
The plans are on display in the bottom of a locked filing cabinet stuck in a disused lavatory with a sign on the door saying ‘Beware of the Leopard’.”
