(Old) Another English Autumnal MMP

I liked – and shall therefore steal – FCM’s “Happy Last September Moanday!”

It’s definitely autumnal around here. We had a spike of sunshine and temps in the 80s on Saturday, but yesterday was dreary and today is offering more of the same: it’s currently only 65°F and overcast/rainy, and the forecasted high is only 68. The outlook for the next couple of weeks is similar – except this coming weekend is supposed to be nice (just those two days). Sunday is supposed to be sunny and 73: that would be greatly appreciated, as I’ll be driving up to MD for lunch with my dad and bro and I-495 sucks enough on a good day, but we’ll see! :crossed_fingers:

I haven’t needed to turn the heat on yet this season, and as always I’ll be putting off doing so for as long as possible. With the recent rain and slightly warmer temps I have needed to turn the a/c on in the afternoons, just to get the dampness out of the house, but so far today it’s been off and I don’t feel any need to turn it back on. It’s always amazing to me the difference that serious cloudiness makes: this house bakes in the afternoons on sunny days, but when it’s overcast it’s pretty much the same inside all day.

I’ve been using Facebook for 15 years without ever being blocked/suspended, etc…until this morning. I was sharing a FB event via Messenger with some friends who might be interested, and in the middle of my message I suddenly got a popup: “You’re Temporarily Blocked. It looks like you were misusing this feature by going too fast. You’ve been temporarily blocked from using it.” There was an option to let them know if I thought it didn’t go against their Community Standards, which I availed myself of (i.e., I whined into the void). I can share events again, but OMG…I was actually blocked for typing too fast! I mean, I do type quickly, and will sometimes get comments from people who either see or hear me type, but I’m hardly bot-fast.

While I assimilate the Utz ripple chips I just ate with my lunch, I’m procrastinating some proposal work that I need to finish by tonight. I spent a couple hours on it yesterday and nearly finished my sections, but the guy who’s helping with half of the doc didn’t make his changes until this morning. So I need to put some finishing touches on my sections, then go review/work on his content (he’s new to proposal work: he’s doing a great job, but you don’t learn this stuff overnight). That’s really my only plan for the rest of the day.

Oh, for those from the last thread who suggested finding a way to exercise that I enjoy more/like better than personal training sessions: there ain’t one. Trust me. I’ve tried all kinds of things over the years, and one-on-one personal training is truly the best option for me (and it’s what I’ve stuck with the longest). I like my trainer and my gym, I’ve just never been one for much physical activity so every now and then I get a little “but whyyyyyyyyyyy?” about it. Heh.

I think I want to get a front and rear dash cam for my car as insurance in case of accident (inspired by the fiasco FCD dealt with - thank goodness for the state trooper’s video!) I’m not able to understand the specs and such for the cameras - all I want to know is how long the record loop is and how to make sure I can preserve evidence.

So, do any of you have these magical devices? Have you any recommendations? I’m working my way thru reviews but apparently I don’t understand written English as well as I thought.

Buddy has an appointment later today, and he had to switch doctors too. His previous vet moved out of the area recently, so he’s now seeing the doctor who did Allie’s checkup a few months ago (we asked for her based on how much Allie, not normally at all good with strangers, really liked her). If we’re lucky, his steroid dosage can be lowered again or even dropped. We’ll see what his bloodwork says.

I totally support both of these.

I’m pretty sure what you’re trying to read isn’t actually English, it’s something that started off in a completely unrelated language and been through multiple AI translations.

greens are best left in the field with the other weeds you know normally i despise liver but maybe ya can make it edible …

Funny thing about buttermilk … it’s the world’s best dough /batter flavoring but 98 percent of the world can’t stand the actual ingredient …

Ive been in moving organizing hell…it all started with getting out the Halloween stuff…but after seeing the mess in the garage we had to take the Christmas stuff out and then someone had the bright idea to reorganize the computer/video game room …so im in moving hell…of course there’s a whole backstory of family bs involved behind it all ill spare yall from

theer are days when i wish i was orphaned …

I’m here! Last week I kept starting to read the MMP to catch up and getting distracted, and meanwhile the MMP kept growing exponentially until it was like everyone was cheering at the end of The Return of the King, and I was still trying to find my seat for The Fellowship of the Ring. (Hey, the popcorn line was long.) But it’s good to be back.

Last week was one medical appointment after the other. There was an abnormality in my lab work for the oncologist’s office, and it required more bloodwork and more bloodwork and then some tests, but I’m just about done with all that. The good news is there was a cancellation at the imaging center, and I was able to get in last week for the mammogram and ultrasound! Yay! Never has anyone been so happy to get an earlier boob-squish. In fact, I think I startled the woman at the imaging center with my whooping. The radiologist said I just have a cyst, so another whoop for that.

My sister-in-law had the surgery to remove her eye, and it went well. She’s in a lot less pain, which is wonderful. The psychological adjustment is, of course, ongoing.

I love autumn, and October is my favorite month, so I’m happy for cooler weather and the trees starting to blush (as would I if I found out I’d be shedding my clothes in public soon). I love crisp apples and hope to get to the farmer’s market soon.

Yesterday I entertained a used car salesman, which sounds a lot more tawdry than it was. I had to cosign on a car loan for my daughter. (Did I mention that her car got hit and totaled while it was parked on the street minding its own business?) Apparently, that had to be done in person, so the guy drove 5 hours to get my signatures. (My SIL is STILL building up his credit rating after his dad wrecked it without his knowledge when SIL was 18. Long story.) Anyway, they qualified to buy a house without a co-signer 2 years ago, so I don’t get it, but it’s all set now.

So I missed the tree-hugging fest yesterday. There were contests like Most Trees Hugged in 30 Seconds and Most Original Tree Hug, and it ended with a giant communal (by holding hands) hug of many trees. It sounded so whacky, I wanted to go see it. Next year, if I’m still here.

All this talk about heat and AC reminds me that I still don’t understand how to work the new digital thermostats. Hah! “New”! We’ve had them for 2 months.

swampy, I’m going to start telling people I belong to the RDOS without telling them what it stands for. (“I’ve been warned to tell no one.”) I’m not fond of chicken livers except in rumaki. (Remember them? Miss you, Seventies!) YOU can undoubtedly make them tasty, though.

shoe, hope your brain unclenches and lets you get some Zzzzzz soon.

Dice, I don’t know whether to be charmed or weirded out by the Hassidic men singing to the alarm. Sounds like you have a LOT to do today. Unpacking is really anticlimactic, so I hope that goes especially fast for you.

MetalMouse What happens if games keep getting rained out? Do you keep making up games through eternity?

THe complex manager says they’re gradually replacing vinyl flooring and carpet with laminate because if only one or two pieces get damaged, you can replace just those, but with other flooring, you have to replace the whole thing. I like the look of laminate/hardwood, but carpet is warmer and hides the dust bunnies better.

Doggio thought of prank calls, but I was thinking more of bow-chicka-wow-wow and $2.99 for the first minute. Thus there are many forms of juvenility.

BooFae, I missed your humor and your cranky weather app!

YEEES! This drives me nuts. Just tell us, are we getting a new restaurant or a boring insurance office? This was especially true in Nowhere, WY, where rumors would fly that we were getting an Olive Garden (Yes, it’s a measure of how remote it was that an O.G. would excite people.), only for it to turn out to be yet another phone store.

Maybe he’s just dramatizing how hungry he is. Protect your face.

This will never happen to me. You should have been rewarded for fast-typing, like in 100 shares of Meta stock, not blocked.

My sister used to hope she was adopted…same motivation, less messy.

I got my COVID and flue vaccinations today.

Hurray! Now go swimming! It made such a difference in the soreness.

Hooray for a cyst! I just had a scary excrescence that is almost certainly a polyp removed from my cervix; path report isn’t back yet.

Yay!

Chumpin’ Chimney! I can’t believe I misspelled ‘flu’.

Probably a side effect of the vax.

A flea and a fly in a flue
Were imprisoned. What could they do?

Good afternoon all. Soccer has been cancelled as the fields are still to wet according to the Parks and Rec people (I dissent, but whattaya going to do?). At least the shopping/sammich (free thanks to my points)/sauna/swimming (1.5miles) are done, so 4 out of 5 “S’s” ain’t bad. Might go back to the gym in awhile, I plan to get a Burger King Double Whopper with cheese and caloric penance will need to be performed.

Did manage to get a couple soccer games rescheduled, in answer to JtC’s question, the league doesn’t do makeup games, but the coaches can arrange a practice ‘scrimmage’ sometime during their practices, if they can agree on a date and location. But it’s all up to the coaches; I for one believe that the kids improve more by playing as much as possible, so I work at it to get the games to happen.

JtC, good news on the medical front. And had to look up the Grafton Monster, apparently W. Va. likes it’s creatures, Mothman is supposed to be from around those parts too.

FCM, My great room and two bedrooms are carpeted, the kitchen, bathrooms, and dining room/library are tiled and the third bedroom has wood (or something that looks like wood) flooring. So lots of different cleaning tools.

And even worse is when they do put a big sign up here, but it’s advertising the contractor building it, not what is being built. That sign, if there is one, is small enough that you have to look hard to find it and when I’m driving I’d rather watch the road, thank you, and hope everyone else does. Since pretty much listen to Sirius/XM I don’t get a lot of DJ interruptions.

And I do not have a on-board camera so I can’t offer any advice, but I’ve thought about getting one too.

boo fae, glad Shadow is doing well, sounds like shopping is done and slothage was hopefully achieved.

doggio, he’s not insane, he’s doing complex tests to find out your sanity level…

Oopsie, that Facebook suspension is just plain weird. Guess some computer program decided you were faster than most humans and assumed you were another computer (they are taking over, don’t cha know). When I come to potato chips I tend to be a Lay’s man, but my Cheese balls are from Utz and are quite good.

nellie, nice to see you around the hood. And great news on the medical front. Hope Sis-in-Law has good people to help, adjusting to single vision can be a chore. And the guy drove that distance to get your signature? I am suitably impressed. And sorry you missed the Tree Hugging; sounds like it would have been fun.

flyboy, got mine a week or so ago, hope all you get are some achy arms for a day.

OK, need to plan out an afternoon and evening without soccer practice. Take care all.

Ahem?

Yup. I was introduced to the concept when I moved to the Mitten State and quickly learned why.

I think sometimes those are built on spec ("We don’t have a paying tenant … yet … ") so there’s not much to divulge.

Somebody in the marketing dept. needed to keep their job.

Because they have no incentive to do so. It’s human nature. No carrot? No stick? No doing the thing.

They’re not not telling you out of some juvenile “ha ha, I know something you don’t know!” mood.

{ Tetris music }

I love your style.

I’m really surprised they didn’t figure out an electronic way to handle this.

Handstand, and grip the tree with your shins?

Me, too!

I bet JtC has a sultry phone voice. All those years of floozyin’ must’ve taught her some useful skills!

I went to the grocery store at what I consider to be stoopit o’clock (because I really wanted some egg salad) and was frankly shocked at how crowded the parking lot was at 10 a.m. on a Monday.

Don’t you people have jobs to go to?!? :upside_down_face:

Came home, stowed my food, put in earplugs, and crashed. Woke cuz, well, you can guess why, glanced at the clock on my way to the potty, and nearly fell over.

Guess I slept away my day off!

It was only about 5 hours, but dang, I have completely borked my sleep schedule. I think at this point I’m on Japan or possibly Australia time.

At least I haz fud now.

A flea and a fly in a chimney flue
The flea said, ‘Let’s fly!’
The fly said, ‘Let’s flee!’
So they flew through a flaw in the flue.

It appears that the problem on the boat was the power cord. If that damned thing led us to spending all this money…

Actually, a good bit of the electrical work needed to get done anyway. And lest you think a power cord is NBD, the replacement is going to cost something in the neighborhood of $760. We need a 50A, 120/250V, 50’ long shore power cord - even with free shipping, that’s what it cost us. If we got it from the local West Marine, it would have cost over $1K. Identical cord…

At least that seems to be that. Tobias wants to do a video chat this evening, so I have that to look forward to. That and chillage.

Oh, from last week …

Next week?

ETA: TIL power cords can cost almost as much as - or more than - a month’s rent.

She had some pretty invasive surgery three weeks ago, the vet likes to get pics to see how she’s healing. I think she’s doing pretty well and Jolene seems to think she’s all recovered, but it’s good to know that the vet also thinks she’s healing nicely.

Hurray, that worked! I posted to see if I had to fix it, but it’s a nasty scar and some folks might not want to see it.

I slept too late.
Saw some Pringles, 69 cents! Figured Philly Cheesesteak might be good. They are!

Ooops. sorry CT !

We can still { snerk } at that.

… wait.

You mean, Philly Cheesesteak flavored Pringles now??!?11?

I … I don’t know what to make of this world in which we live.

ETA: sends Jolene the whisper-gentlest belly pets.

I’ve been watching a lot of dash cam videos lately. I’d like to read some recommendations too.
