(Old) A Day Off in the MMP

Cadillacs also traditionally contain a Grand Marnier floater. Yum!

I happen to like Chick-fil-A sammiches. I’m generally of a mind that if I give someone some money and they give me a product that I feel is worth that money, that is the start and end of our relationship. I’m not about to analyze the political and social leanings of every CEO of every company I’ve ever bought something from. Of course, I’ll make an exception for Tesla and any Trump property or product. Neither will ever get a red cent of my money.

To anyone looking to renew a passport online, be careful. Last time I renewed mine, I went to an official-looking website, plugged in my information, and paid the fees. Then I realized (too late) that I was not on a .gov address. Turns out it was a “service” that fills out the forms for you. To be fair, they actually did what they claimed to do in the teeny-tiny print at the bottom: they sent me all the relevant paperwork, nicely printed out and in pre-paid envelopes ready to be mailed off to the gummint. Of course, you can find the forms for free and fill them out yourself. So I kinda got scammed and kinda not. At least they didn’t steal my identity or drain my bank account or anything; they just overcharged me to do something I could have done myself. Lesson learned.

Tomorrow I’m flying to New Orleans. I was initially excited when I got offered the project there, but it turns out it’s really an hour north of NO, over the Mississippi border. It’s a two-week job with a four-day weekend (closed for both Good Friday and Easter Monday) and they’re flying everyone home in between. At first I said I didn’t care about being home for the weekend, but I’d be stuck without a car and not much to do, so I decided to come on home, mostly because Friday is Mrs W’s birthday and we can celebrate it on Saturday, which will be nice.

And, everyone else’s flights home are much earlier than mine. If I can get the hotel to store my luggage, I might just ask to be dropped off at Cafe du Monde on travel day. I’ll have time for coffee and beignets, red beans and rice at Buffa’s, and maybe a frozen Irish Coffee at Erin Rose, then uber myself to the airport. That’ll be enough to scratch my Nawlins itch.

Afternoon all. I have coached (1) 8:00am the U7 boys lost 7-0, they still don’t quite have the concept of defense yet, (2) 9:45am the U10 boys won 4-0, their best game of the season so far, (3) refereed at 11:00am and 1pm (u9 boys are tough, they have little conception of rules and play at 90 miles an hour, so it’s a tough 50 minutes). So of course I came home, got a bite to eat, and signed up to do a 5pm game at a park 25 miles away…because I hate to see games without a referee when I can do it. So about an hour to R&R and then back on the road again.

As for the rest of you Mumpers…

FCM, I imagine FCD will be ok once you are on the move; the kids will help his mood some, I reckon.

boofae, thanks for the suggestion, I’ll be sure to download that app.

You are really good people, you know…

red, take care, as a recent hospital inhabitant, know how the time drags, glad sister is close enough to take care of things.

Oopsie, Happy training time and hope dinner is great.

JtC, concur with how you plan to put the letter together.

Wheelie, hope you can find some time for the Big Easy.

And time to don my referee apparel and head out to the park. Take care all.

Wither play all fours on a lottery ticket, or put it all on the 4th horse in the fourth race today.

That’ll help till you get back. {{{{red}}}}

Shhhhhhhhh.

The Tilamook smoked Cheddar is da bomb.

They are growing Mumpers.

Howdy Y’all! The cee-mint pond is almost ready. A couple more things need to be done, but I decided I didn’t want to do any more today. I can do that cause I’m a RDOS. Nappage occurred and we warded off scurvy and malaria. Early sup has been et. Fartfest, Netflix, chill and popcorn are on the agenda for later.

You left out oyster po’ boy or muffuletta.

Taxes started. Need some more info from a couple of places. Possibly missing some forms, because I am not organized. In particular, our 1098 from the mortgage company claims that we only paid $1600 in interest, which seems unlikely given the rate and balance. The servicing was transferred to a new company a month or so in, and I’m guessing that’s the one we’re missing. Either got shuffled into the wrong pile or lost in the mail. Every year I swear we’ll get organized and pass these things on to an accountant. Every year we fail to do so.

Got the patio furniture out of the garage where I stowed it a few weeks ago ahead of a historically bad storm forecast. Maybe I’ll finish taxes out there tomorrow

Gonna rest for a bit before heading to the musical.

Early supper has been ingested. We’re watching Finding Nemo. Chillage ensues. Dunno when I’ll be able to post tomorrow, but I’ll try to check in once we get to the hotel. Maybe in a restaurant along the way. We shall see.

(((oopsie and Bailey)))

I was barely able to walk Thursday night and Friday morning. I knew it wouldn’t be getting better on its own at that point.

Sis is just past Memphis now, so it won’t be long. I still haven’t gotten the word about this afternoon’s x-rays yet, I’m anxious to get this show on the road.

I chose a chickie topped salad and NSA ice cream for supper and it was good. Over the years, hospital food, while still being limited by institutional food prep and different diets, has greatly improved.

That’s all of the news that is news from my town horsepistol.

So, today I thought I should go to the capital and see what was happening.

Just to freshen up everyone’s memories, I have been smoking weed since I was 16. I’ve grown and sold weed in Hawaii to fund my worthless MLS and chose to work for the government because of the lack of pee tests. This means I have been deliberately committing felonies on a daily basis for most of my life. That kinda changes how one sees the world.

I was also raised knowing that the world can suddenly start shaking and open up in front of your feet and eat you up. Southern CA will do that to you. That also hones your sense of paranoia.

So, while I’m happily bopping down the sidewalk and window shopping and stinking of weed, my situational awareness is always at def con levels.

So, I shared that to tell you that my spidey senses started tingling by the time I got to the edge of Madison about 15 miles away from the capital. I don’t usually drive in my Handmaids garb, I don’t like the long skirts under my feet, but I stopped and changed at a c-store and then parked a couple of miles away and took the bus to the capital and stood there with my sign for a couple of hours.

I didn’t see anything and I didn’t hear anything. Showing up on the 19th will take a huge amount of effort because I don’t think it will be a good day.

Well, at least Sis will be with your poor pup soon, that’s got to help. I agree with you about hospital food, sometimes when I’m at the capital I’ll stop at the hospital for a good and inexpensive lunch.

I sure do hope they get your pain figured out soonist.

I got the letter composed and Mom proofed it for me. Then she asked why we were staying at a motel.

I’m noticing two things about the insulation, the floor isn’t as cold as I’m used to in the middle of the night and I can’t hear the semi trucks on the highway for nearly as long as before. That was unexpected, but when I thought about how sound waves moved and how extra two layers of insulation top and bottom would help muffle the lower tones, it does make sense.

They do sound delightful. I’m still dithering over my yard bush/tree. Back in AZ, I was constantly planting and WATERING trees because they didn’t grow naturally. We now have a home with no trees as is the fashion out here, and I’ve agreed with hubs that we don’t need a whole lot of trees because the forest is just right across the highway. But I will have one. And just picking one is super hard, LOL!!!

ETA: I have never once been arrested or even questioned over weed and I haven’t even had a speeding ticket in over 40 years. I’ve only been arrested once and it was deemed to be self defense so it doesn’t count. I left my weed at the hospital restroom and hope that whoever found it was happy.

… yeah, people say a lotta things.

I keep meaning to ask: does this mean “Under 7” (years of age)?
If so, can an “Under 9” join the "Under 10"s?

Currently chillin’ in the sunshine in my car on my lunch break, listening to seagulls and watching a crow peacefully amble about in the grass.

Also, I’M BEING HEALTHY, y’all, I’m eating a salad. I know, I know, shocking news!
Spinach, with sliced almonds, a bit of crumbled hard boiled egg and bits of cheese, plus those crunchy chow mein noodles, all topped with a very nice sweet onion dressing.
Plucked from the clearance rack in the deli aisle at Wal-Mart, so I may even be able to afford to eat an egg for dinner! /s

Anyway, break time is almost over. Cheers!

Don’t tease me!

The flounder was… Well, we thought it tasted like any other mild white fish. Not bad, but nothing special. We agreed that tilapia had more flavour. The Spousal Unit made Grey Goose martinis. She even used her Grey Goose cocktail shaker. (I never noticed the brand.) The only olives we have are green ones stuffed with blue cheese. Very nice.

I looked up the serial number. I was off by a year. It was made in 1917.

I joined the ranks of the Mumpers who went to the ER. Today I fell backwards over a large rock and landed on my butt and my left hand. My butt is OK. X-rays of the hand and wrist are inconclusive of course because of swelling. I will see an ortho ASAP next week or whenever I can get in. Fortunately it’s my non-dominant hand. The nice nurse gave me a splint and told me to wear it continuously except when I am showering or icing. I drove myself home and cooked a lean cuisine. Now I am icing my hand with a bag of frozen onions. Couldn’t find the peas.

For a second there I thought your work was as a baker frosting wedding cakes and cupcakes.

So sorry about the fall, glad your bum is ok and hope you can get into an ortho Monday with the rest of the weekend warriors.

OK you guys, I thought I already showed you what a bad idea that was!

I’m glad it isn’t your dominant hand, my sprain is still a painful PITA.

Hubs and I just had such a miscommunication. I have a real ID with the gold star, but I’ve learned that it doesn’t prove citizenship. So, this means I need a passport. I have two expired ones somewhere in a box, but I’m pretty sure they are too old and I will have to start the process all over. When I told Hubs that I needed a passport in case we moved or I wanted to change my party affiliation, he just freaked the fuck out. We just put a hundred grand into fixing this place, what the heck am I talking about moving?

So I told him that I wanted to fly to Hawaii in the summer and would need a passport to go to a foreign country. He started looking up visas before I distracted him by dumping Jolene on his desk cause she needed a cuddle.

This is actually physically painful, my heart hurts so hard when I am forced to pay attention to his decline.

That sounds like a tasty supper!

Ouch! That sounds painful,. Sending healing thoughts out your way.

(((JtC)))

Sis got in and Nelson was overjoyed to see her. I even got to talk to him! She said he knew who was talking and kept looking around for me. She dropped her dogs off and packed Nelson up for a trip to Fat Mo’s. I hope they get a pup cup.

Bill, my night nurse just came in so I have to go.

Evening all. Did get my third game refereed and got back home for dinner (which is now happily being digested). Should sleep well tonight with all that activity behind me but I still feel pretty good, so all that gym stuff apparently is working for me. Great day, clear skies and temperatures in the mid-60’sF, couldn’t ask for a better day.

Pavo, hope the tax work gets settled.

FCM, safe travels!

red, take care.

They do it in a slightly odd way (IMHO), given the soccer seasons, so for the 2024 season (August 1, 2024 to July 31 2025), all kids born in calendar year 2018 are considered to be 'under 7", and so on. I guess it works ok. And if an “U9” is good enough (or has an older brother in the U10’s and they want to play together) then they can be moved up. They’re just trying to keep the kids within 1-2 years of each other and I guess this is the system they came up with.

Shoe, my healthy diet is eating sugar-free chocolate pudding cups (only 70 calories each) and applesauce and bananas. Not sure how healthy that is, but it’s the best i can do.

Wet one, hope the hand is just bruised or sprained, and not broken.

JtC, was going to write something jocular until I read the last sentence, so {{{hugs}}} instead of snark. Hope the passport is easy to do.

OK, closing in on 9pm, I’ve been on the go since 6am and need to finish some internetting before heading off to bed, Take care all and I’ll catch you tomorrow.

Happily, I’ve only been married once so can easily show the custody transfer from my father to my husband. Many divorced women have a more difficult paper trail to deal with.

I think the hardest part about what is going on with Hubs is knowing that he was such a different man just last year. His center isn’t holding despite both of our attempts at knitting it back together. Pieces just keep falling out and we can’t put them back together so we just keep going on and doing the best we can.

And I cry when I’m swimming because nobody can see me then.

{{{{{{{{ Jane & hubs }}}}}}}}}

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 45 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 74 and N.O.S. The big item on today’s agenda is deheathenization in which I have Verger duty. Today is Palm Sunday so we start in the memorial garden and process into the church house wavin’ palms while we shout “Hosanna in the highest.” Temp should be in the mid 50s by then. Afterwards OYKW and I will get stoner food from Cook Out.

MOOOOOOM safe travels!

{{{WetOne}}} glad you’re not too hurt.

Red glad sis made it there and you got to talk to Nelson. Poor little fella must be missin’ his mommy sump’n awful!

{{{JtC}}} it’s hard to watch a loved one decline. Dementia is awful!

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then purtification for deheathenization must commence.

Happy Sunday Y’all! A Blessed Palm Sunday to all who observe.
