(Old) A Day Off in the MMP

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off today. Morning cleaning and afternoon sloth and sports watching shall ensue.

{{{{{JtC}}}}}

Ouch. Feel better!

Afternoon, mumpers! It’s currently 12c/54f with a predicted high of 13c/56f and partly cloudy. Weather app says “Today, the sun is going to enter your fucking mouth and come exploding out of your ass. Good fucking luck.” That’s us told then, isn’t it?

Keeping appendages crossed for you, and also looking forward to hearing that you are back home with Nelson.

Awww…she needs comfort after losing her friend, and she probably thinks you need comfort too.

Dicey that sounds like a fun day out!

Safe travels, and I hope you enjoy the project. Nice to be home over the long weekend to, especially as you get to celebrate a birthday too.

Ouchie! I hope you do what the nice nurse (and our lovely BBBoo) tells you and you’re soon back to rights.

JtC I’m sorry you have to deal with this, and also glad Jolene provides a useful distraction.

Yesterday was busy but lots of fun. I went to the gym in the morning, popped home for a shower etc, had lunch, went to do some fundraising for Little Paws in the afternoon and ended up spending twice the amount of time I’d intended to. It was productive, I had a talk with Di about Muffin and she gave me some Gabapentin that I can put on her food in very small doses, which might calm her down a bit and help us earn her trust a bit.

We had a takeaway for dinner (I have leftovers for lunch today!) then got a cab into town to go and see some bands at the Giffard. Some of our friends were there, the bands were really good and the main act had everyone singing and dancing so it was a really great night. We stayed for a while to chat with them, then sat outside for a drink before heading home.

This morning, Muffin has hissed and growled at me but she’s eaten all her food so that’s a good sign. I have no plans for the day, it’s not a good day to be going anywhere. Wolves have a home match today and there’s also a big Sikh festival celebration for Vaisakhi with a parade that ends at the park round the corner from us. That means lots of road closures, lots of visitors, and lots of traffic! Definitely a day to stay at home, drink tea and read a good book.

Morning all. A full bladder got me up early so dressed and got my Sunday NY Times and am now home awaiting the time I can head to the Golden Corral for Sunday Dinner. Might have to be an Assistant ref this afternoon (the guy that runs along the sidelines) for a friend who is getting evaluated, but hoping that someone else grabs the spot, still a little sore from yesterday’s exertions. Otherwise sloth and watching the final round of The Masters (this and the British Open is the only golf I ever try to watch)

Should be a beautiful day, all the rain has departed and temperatures should be around 75F.

{{{{ }}}}

swampy, Happy Palming.

boo fae, glad things are moving along with Muffin, and staying at home with a good book is undervalued these days, IMHO, but is a good way to spend time.

And ff to do my Sunday You Tubing. have a good one all.

Make sure it’s something which provides food for the local birds or bugs. Then you get even more entertainment.

I didn’t know the ER was recruiting. Hope it’s not actually broken and that the pain’s manageable.

{{{{JtC and Hubs}}}} Dementia sucks.

Woke up to a drizzle, which was nice, but not enough to make a dent in the drought.

Went for a walk, made fajitas (got a stack of fresh-made blue corn tortilas yesterday at the Mexican food store and they need to be eaten), then started raspberry ice cream and blueberry-lime cake.

Hubby made afternoon lattes, and the ice cream machine is about to make noise to tell us it’s done, so that will be dessert. I had overfilled it, so I had to take out some of the mix. That I just put in the freezer. It’s only the second time I’ve made raspberry ice cream, so I have a lot of kinks to work out.

Need to clean the bathroom sinks and pretend to be a responsible adult for an hour or two (paperwork).

The best you can is all you can. Hugs to you and hubs.

I’m going to introduce Sis to Cookout while she’s here.

She was his first mommy and has since been his favorite auntie, so she’s a good alternative.

And also to you! That reminds me that 45 Palm Sundays ago, I was at mass at San Pietros in Naples, Italy. The following Sunday was Easter at le Catredal de Notre Dame in Paris. While I didn’t understand the language, mass was beautiful.

Breakfast is over (the bacon was perfect!) and I’m waiting for Sis to get here (she’s sleeping in after her trip), then for the doctor to give me a verdict. Such excitement!

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

I was all proud of the salad because I generally eat a fruit, or a vegetable (that’s not an onion or potato) roughly once every several weeks.

I have been repeatedly informed that this is not the healthiest lifestyle, so, hey, occasional (most of) a salad.

I got the reference.

But more importantly, damn if that didn’t describe my Other Shoe in the last year of his life. For someone who never met him, you described things very well.

.. and I cry while facing away from my crew (“Damn allergies! … or … Must’ve gotten some flour in my eyes!”) for the same reason.

We’re here for you, for however much that’s worth.

Considering how weird Sunday nights at work get sometimes, this seemed like an appropriately “dafuq?” start to the day.

If the book’s any good. Last coupla reads I picked up were … meh.

Knowing JtC I’m pretty sure this is up there with “make sure it has roots and leaves” e.g. baked (ha!) into the decision process.

Oooh! @JaneDoe42 start a thread so Dopers can throw suggestions at you!
… might provide a bit of distraction and diversion, at least?

What an experience!

And you reminded me that, many years ago, I attended a Greek Orthodox mass. Raised Polish Catholic, so it was … quite different, in a beautiful way, but somehow mostly familiar, if that makes sense.

Sometimes, it’s the little blessings in life.

{{{{ Jane }}}}

I guess I got a good night’s sleep (??) cuz I got a wild hair up my, um, behind, and got a bunch of stuff thrown out/decluttered/organized, instead of rolling over and sleeping in.

Man, you eat ONE salad, and suddenly you’re a productive adult.

Monkey got some outside time earlier - he hopped onto the lid of the biiiiiig bin just as I was getting to the household trash stuff, and laid his ass down like the panther he is (“I own this.”) I suppose because the lid is black plastic, so .. warm?

I put a couple of his mousies into the catnip canister a while ago, and fished one out for him a bit ago … he’s currently murdering enjoying it.

Speaking of warm … so it is, here in western Mitten State (in the 50s! no more freezes foretold!) so my agave & lemon have gone back outside, and I shall look forward to the springening.

More daffodils!
Tulips! (Crocus are already doing their groovy thang.)
People in a good mood!

Good morning. I slept well managing to support my wrist on one of my stuffed animals. Took a shower and washed my hair this morning. That felt really good. Getting undressed last night I noticed the clasp oof my front close bra snapped in two, I guess during the fall.

JtC I did not realize your hubby’s decline. Please know that we all care and think about you.

I was able to have dinner with my BFFs last night! Yay! I picked up burgers from their/our favorite place, which I pass on the way there. It was really good to spend some time with them in their house again, vs rehab or a hospital. I ate a slider and a boatload of tater tots (yum!), and I have a leftover slider for today’s lunch. I also took the completed Batwing to their place – in a really big box with tons of bubble wrap and packing paper – and HusbandBFF will re-mount it on his son’s (my nephew’s) bedroom wall for him to discover when he and his GF come visit this summer. I won’t get to see his reaction, but I can’t wait to hear about it.

I have a professional certification that requires earning a certain number of “professional development units” (PDUs) every three years, and my cert is up for renewal in less than a month: a few weeks ago I completed a bunch of training and thought I was done, but yesterday I got an email heads-up that I still needed 1.5 PDUs. Grrr. So, this morning I found two free online courses offered by the organization and completed them (1 PDU each). Now I’m actually done: I just have to pay the $60 renewal fee next month and I’ll be good for another three years.

Late last night I got an email with the details about today’s vocal master class, and I’m going to skip it: there will be way too many people, and not everyone will be able to sing/get feedback – which also means the people who do get to sing are likely to be kind of rushed. I really don’t enjoy oversold workshops, nor do I enjoy the company of the others who will be there enough to spend a Sunday evening hanging out with them as an observer (I’ve known all of them for 10-15 years). The organizer can keep my $40. I wish I’d known they were going to deliberately overbook the session before I signed up…oh well.

I’m starting to think I might actually be done with jazz (as a musician) – at least, for the time being. It’s a really weird feeling after focusing on this genre for the past 16 years, but I’m not able to pursue music full time and I’ve grown super weary of the “jazz singers with day jobs” community around here, and there seems to be very little in between. I think it’s time to explore what other musical opportunities are out there*. Last week I met a co-worker who’s also a musician: he mentioned some other musicians in the company and floated the idea of maybe putting a “work band” together at some point, and I was more excited about that than I’d been about anything related to music in a long time! Probably nothing will come of it, but at the very least it was nice to know that I can still feel happy about the idea of making music with others.

*Before anyone suggests joining a choir/chorus/chorale: that isn’t my thing, for reasons.

After lunch I plan to go out back and hose out the biiiiiiig trash can, plus I have some laundry to do; otherwise, though, it will be a very low-key afternoon/evening. I’ll try to go to bed on the early side.

Yesterday I mentioned that I have in-person training from 8am-4pm every day this week: due to that, I likely won’t read/post in the new MMP at all (unless there somehow aren’t hundreds of posts by Saturday!). I’ll catch y’all again after Easter.

Your biiiiiiig trash can having drainage holes makes sense!

Mine also lives outside, unsheltered, but I haven’t had any issues with it being hole-less (this is the first time any water has gotten in it). I can’t do the drilling thing because I’m effectively “borrowing” the can from the trash company, and I’d have to pay for a replacement whenever I move out.

It’s not a group activity!!!

( )

I hope you get to see an ortho soon, and that your wrist isn’t too damaged.

:people_hugging:

I hope you get some news soon!

I cleaned, changed Spot’s litter, changed the sheets(and foiled Spot!) took the trash and recycling out, and put up a bird feeder for Spot to watch. I got the first load of laundry swishing in the machine. It started out 39 degrees Ferret Height(3.9 Centipedes), and now it’s up to 61F(16C). I need to make some lunch.

A friend of mine got married in the Orthodox church up the street. I get what you mean.
{{{{shoe}}}}

If they crouch behind the floats, are they playing Hide and Sikh?

I have made another grape-celery-apple chickie salad to bring with, along with the remainder containers of sliced almonds and chow mein noodles for additional CRONCH factor.

The fruits provide crispy but not crunchy texture, yanno?

Makeup applied, ratties fed & watered, shower … uh, showered.
Not necessarily performed in that order, but that was the importance.

I feel all … prepared for the day.

Historically, this bodes very badly. The last time I walked out the door all, “Yeah! I got this shit!” I think I came back quietly tearing up.

{ rolls up the naughty newspaper }

Pit stop about 2:30 from Pigeon Forge on I-81. Ready for this drive to be done… More later.

Popping in to see how red is doing before I head out to Tumwater Falls. I promised myself if I got enough done yesterday, I could go today.

red, I’m glad Nelson’s beloved auntie got there, and he’s being cherished and even got to hear your voice! (Reminds me of the old RCA logo, [Hearing His Master’s Voice] (His Master's Voice - Wikipedia).) I sure hope you get a diagnosis, pain relief, and walking papers. (Hah. Pun unintended.)

I was surprised to learn there’s another nationwide protest on 4/19. I’ll be going. I think it’s relatively safe here at our capital, but you never know. A state capital draws all kinds, as you know. On January 6, 2020, there was an insurrection here that started at the state capital and at one point involved a mob trying to break into the governor’s mansion. (He and family were gone.) I’ll be thinking of you on the 19th and wishing you safety.

Also {{{{{JtC}}}}} for your hard journey with your beloved hubs.

WetOne, OUCH! That sounds painful. I hope whatever it is heals fast and without surgery, casts, etc. Let us know, please, what the doc says.

They probably did eat lunch. I’m always amazed that kids can be bottomless pits. Take a box of donuts into any classroom ten minutes after lunch, and they’re gone before the box hits the table. Why can’t I burn calories that easily?

After our joking Camilla exchange, this sounded like a 1990s flashback.

 You are such a pundit!

Safe travels, FCM!

I’ll be there too at my state capitol. I have a big fat dental appt earlier that day so I’ll likely have an appropriately grim and stricken look on my face to back up my IMPEACH TRUMP sign.

Afternoon all. Have brunched quite well at the Golden Corral, Soup/Salad/Pot Roast&Rice/Pecan Pie and Brownie all for about $20, so the need to eat is not a requirement for the next few hours. The game I thought i was going to have to Assistant Ref was filled, so I instead signed up to do an AR for the 3pm game, so will skip any gym time and get my exercise there. Up to 70F now, the week to come is looking good and highs in the 80’s later so now worries about snow here.

FCM. just did a google map and that’s about 500 miles you’ve covered, which makes for a long day already, especially with two youngsters along. Hope all is well.

shoe, I’m doing most of my reading these days while on the stationary bike or in the jacuzzi at the gym. And yeah, I once was at an Orthodox Monastery in Greece and it is…different…

Pretty!

Beautiful!

Dream On!!

wet one, so new bra shopping in the near future?

Oopsie, glad you were able to get together with your friends. As for the certifications, I had to do an on-line class I didn;t even know about to keep my certification to coach and referee kids up date this past week.

As for the jazz, that’s got to be your call, you know your heart better than any of us do, i trust that you will do what is right for you at this time. See you after Easter (and my Birthday).

And nearing 2pm, so need to get into my refereeing gear and head over to the field. Catch up with you this evening.

Coming from the orthodox side to western churches is a bit discombobulating. There is a bit here and there that is familiar, but in a different order or day.

I went to a Lutheran church as a friend was having a memorial service after the regular Sunday service. It was the Sunday before Ash Wednesday and transfiguration. The was a bit confusing as transfiguration is in august and involves blessing fruit in the Orthodox Church. Also no Ash Wednesday in the Orthodox Church.

There was mention that alleluia would not be said until Easter. Interesting, as in the Orthodox Church due to the huge amount of services in lent alleluia is sung/chanted more often. Also lent and penance is seen as joyous experience. To get right with god and fellow humans is a good and joyful thing.

In the thousand plus years of separation it makes sense that things would get a bit shuffled around.

Metal mouse I have 3 emergency back up bras so I don’t need to waste money on those. I’ll find a different way to waste money.

We have arrived. FCD is napping. Daughter is in the pool with her spawn. I’m sitting and watching.

There’s a Trump Store just down the road. 'Nuff said. I’s tahred and ready for supper to appear. On the road with kids ain’t for the faint of heart…

Howdy Y’all! We deheathenated, includin’ walkin’ from the memorial garden to the front door while wavin’ palms and singing’, did the very long Passion Gospel, and heard a most excellent sermon. I told BP at the peace that his sermon made me think so I would probably get a headache. Lucky for me he has a great sense of humor. There was a good sized crowd so all that marchin’ around and folks talkin’ Communion made for a loooooong service. Next Sunday is Easter so the Christmas and Easter folks will show up which will make for another loooooong service. We got stoner food and brought it back to da cave to eat. Nappage then occurred. Plus the biiiiiig trash can has been hauled all the way down to the road for pickup tomorrow. Still way full from stoner food, so Netflix and chill will be sans popcorn.
