(Old) A Day Off in the MMP

That poor lil girl must be so terrified. I agree that she will turn around fast once she figures out that you are nice too.

We have Verizon and adding someone to our plan would be twenty-five a month. I’m fairly sure that Sticky mom will be able to save a few pennies this way too.

It was 29F when I got up and is “up” to 37F now. While we were at the plant nurseries last week, everyone told us that we couldn’t put out tomatoes until after easter. Looks like they were right!

I had everything planned for the work being done and it was a wonderful plan. The best plan ever! Of course it all fell apart as soon as the workers got here and said they were going to be spraying tomorrow instead of Friday.

That means we need to have the motel room starting 9am tomorrow, so I called to ask if it was possible. It was not, they were all booked up. I tried the pricier pet friendly lodge, but they were booked up. The closest pet friendly place I could find with availability tonight was in Charleston.

I was just pulling out my plastic so I could book when my phone rang. It was the clerk from the place we already have booked, she was able to move things around and get us a room for tonight after all. That made me very happy and I got into Hub’s wallet and found a nice clean twenty to give to her as a reward. (I rarely carry cash anymore)

That’s the main reason for all of my cooking “disasters”, I sure do understand.

Homeowners insurance rates are increasing country wide because of the CA fires. Back where we used to live, insurance companies were pulling out of the entire state over it.

Not to mention hurricane damage in FL and along the Gulf. And flooding all over the place. It all adds up.

Neither my sweetie nor I have any motivation to do anything. It may be a non-productive day after all.

Morning all. Another cool morning here, about 44F but heading to 70F later in the day. Nothing much on the agenda so may do a little housecleaning and stuff along with the usual gym things. No soccer practice today, I do get Wednesdays off…

The first Mowage of the year will have to occur soon, perhaps even today, we’ll see how it goes.

My home insurance isn’t due until July, so I’ll worry about it then.

Got a contractor who is willing to replace my tiles, but charges $250 minimum so I’ll see if someone else comes in lower. Such is the life of a homeowner…

Thanks, I needed that.

boo fae, keep on trying and glad you are getting assistance, but I’m beginning to wonder if Muffin will ever adjust to the changes. My ignorance of cats is immense so hopefully this is all just a stage, best wishes to both Muffin and you.

swampy, don’t think I’ve ever broken fast at Jack’s; looking at the menu I may have to give them a try sometime.

FCM, if you think food prices are bad now… As for the road work, it can be faster than you think these days, depending on their schedule. Hope it’s not too big an inconvenience.

JtC, I see Murphy found his way to W. Virginny…and nice of the clerk to go the extra mile for you.

And that’s the morning report. Need to wait a bit before having soup and sammiches, so will you tube for awhile. Take care all.

Happy Very Early Birthday!
Hope you didn’t jinx yourself with the :snowflake:. :snowflake:

Truer words were NEVER spoken.
Although now thinking about it, the orange pathological narcissist also cares about being liked, adored, etc and he cares that anyone who crosses him be made to suffer.

Need to do another load of laundry, wash silverware, swiffer the bedroom and change the sheets, workout on the NuStep; maybe go for a walk. We’ll see how much I get down as I continue climbing up the hump. Question will be if I will get to the top of the hump.

Cool out. Its supposed to be 60 Monday and supposed to be cold for Easter. They don’t know.
Going tomorrow to get a skin tag removed. It appeared last week and now its brown and painful.
My back still hurts.
At least I am meeting a new friend for coffee today.

I know we have folks here who have experience with diabetes and the associated diets. Can I please get some links/recommendations for meal plans? FCD’s doc said he’s right on the cusp and we want to stop it right now. I can Google, but I’d like to get some first-hand experience and guidance. Thanks.

Our trash and recycling has been dispatched - big load today - 4 bags of recycling and 2 very full bags of household trash, plus a bag of shop trash and a number of boxes. So we’re good till after we get back.

The road work is proceeding noisily. It’s not stopping us from going anywhere. Mostly what we notice is loud engine noises - well, not all that loud since the windows are closed. I wonder how long it will take - all told, I don’t think it’s even a mile of road.

Not motivated yet…

Good morning-ish.

Slept until 9. Breakfasted and caffeinating. I may try to get downstairs for some time in the elliptical. Realizing I’m badly out of shape and need to do something about it. Then maybe a nap.

One lesson this afternoon, then rehearsal. At some point I need to do taxes.

Older cat has been needy. She’s been spending all night either on me or next to me, which she never used to do. Then follows me around all day. She’s had another cat around most of her life. I think she’s lonely.

Ooh, gotta :blue_heart: that good news.

Nope. It’s banned because of risks to unborn fetuses. I have something else which is the local “sure thing” and I’ve got straws and jelly so I might be doing some crafts this weekend.

Bunny butt!

Glad for the progress and I hope your colleague has some good suggestions so that Muffin’s stress level goes down.

On the train going home. On the positive side, both my boss and grand-boss are very happy with my work. Another project I was consulting on got canceled, so that’s a bit of a bummer.

Travel agent came back with suggestions for summer 2026 and my mom’s already asking what we think. Seems very strange to be planning a cruise.

Have to stop at the store and get milk as there’s nothing in the queue. Hubby’s having drinks with colleagues so I’m on my own for at least 30 minutes.

And just about there, so time to press the Reply button.

@LSLGuy is a whiz kid at that-let’s ask him.

Hell, start a thread. There’s plenty of non-Mumpers who have plenty of knowledge about such matters.

My take for the diabetic starter diet: Eat no (simple) carbs. That’s it.

To simplify the planning & shopping the rules are simple: Buy nothing white except milk or cream. No bread, no rice, no potatoes, no sugar, no pasta. And nothing containing flour, rice, potato, or sugar. The easiest way to avoid the “containing” part is simply don’t buy food that comes in bags, boxes, or cans. Or you can squint at labels all day discovering all they myriad ways they can disguise the word “sugar”.

The diabetic industry, and the diabetic lobby groups are all about getting people to cut back their carbs a little because they know if they tell people to cut out carbs completely, they’ll simply ignore the advice and keep living on potatoes, flour, & sugar. And developing fulminant raging diabetes then their feet fall off. So instead they advocate cutting a little. And the people still develop full-up diabetes and their feet still fall off. Just a little later than if they’d never improved their diet at all.

ref @purplehorseshoe’s great advice just above, there are many, many threads on diabetic and pre-diabetic eating. The state of knowledge about the disease is pretty stable, so advice from 10 years ago is as good as new.

Sounds like the South Beach Diet - has that disappeared?

Cutting those things will be rough for him, but since I shop and cook, he’ll just have to learn to eat what I put in front of him. But it’s obviously going to affect me, too. I don’t know why it didn’t occur to me to search the Dope. I can’t brain today…

Admittedly I took a very hard core approach to my problem. There is benefit to just cutting back. And to the weight loss that will come from more thoughtful food choices. Just not as much benefit as is available if you can seize control of your spoon.

But for you and FCD the question becomes: Can you order fries with your burger and eat 3 fries only, leaving the rest? If the answer is “no”, then the good decision is “Don’t order fries”, not “Order fries hoping to eat 3 then eating them all. Just like what happened the last time I ordered fries”.

For my personality, cold turkey works far better than cutting back. It’s also a physiological fact that eating carbs triggers a near instant craving for more carbs. That first french fry really honestly actually destroys your will power to not eat the 2nd through 50th fry. Not eating #1 is far easier than not eating #3 or 6 or 27.

So the 100 Table PT Sup was yelling at the Metro FT sup because he looted the 100 Boxline of people(including me) to bail out the 200 Boxline. And still none of the last 3 package cars on the 200 South got loaded. :grimacing: But in lieu of help, TPTB ordered new shiny blue corrugated plastic totes for Smalls. So we got that going for us. Which is nice. I stopped at Ace and got a bird feeder and seed for Spot’s shows, and a bag of dry, flavorless bits for Spot to eat. I went with soup and sandwich for lunch, since it was adter 12 by the time I did my errands and showered off the work filth. But now naptime.

Gas is up 20cents/gallon, too. I’m gonna have to save serving Molotov Cocktails for special occasions.

It took 3 weeks and multiple plates of food to get Spot to stop acting like a surly teenager. Good luck.

Happy one thing is going right for you today.

My company provided Chick-fil-A to everyone in the building for lunch! No nuggets, which was borderline blasphemous, but our choice of a sandwich or a wrap plus salad, mac-and-cheese, and either a cookie or a brownie. A lot of people sat and ate in the big conference rooms downstairs, but I had an online brownbag session so I was antisocial and brought my sandwich back to my desk. It was yummy.

After I got home yesterday I was too tired to play with Lego, but I’m hoping to keep working on the Ghostbusters firehouse tonight. I only have two bags left (~3 hours of building): I’d like to be done before the cleaners come on Friday, so I figure I’ll do one bag tonight and the last bag tomorrow night. With luck, I’ll have photos of the completed set to share on Friday. It’s been a really fun build, with a lot of cool little details, and I’m super glad I bought it for myself (to celebrate the new job) even though it was :money_bag:.

When I went to the Supreme Court last month, there was a group of young people in my session: I thought they were in high school until I heard someone address them as being from Princeton University. *sigh*

Ha! :joy:

One of my (many) nicknames for Bailey is “puppy butt,” because during her first few years I would frequently see her playing with a toy with her butt up in the air. I didn’t realize how often I called her that until one day she actually answered to it! LOL!

I had a cat who ended up being called pudge butt. She wasn’t bright enough to answer to it though.

Hubs used to call VBC pudge butt. Oddly enough, she always hairballed in front of his sink.

Climate change is costly. Who’d a thunk?

When I checked in, I learned that she really did go above and beyond. One of their rooms was on the Do Not Rent list because it needed the terlit fixed. She sweet-talked the maintenance man to put that room on top of his list and then moved other people around so we wouldn’t have to move rooms in the middle of our stay. And then she tried to refuse my tip!

I have our keycards and left a trunk load of stuff so I wouldn’t need to deal with it in the morning. (Litter box, litter, kibble bowl, kibble, gooshy fud bowls, gooshy fud, water bowl, gallon of r/o water as well as a bag of our ice and some lemon slices for me.)

After that, I stopped at the vegetable stand so I could learn how to run the cash register and where the keys were. We are still dickering over my pay. I really do not want a paycheck to have to claim on our taxes and she doesn’t want to take advantage of me by paying me tomatoes.

She gave me some nice seed potatoes that were already sprouting so later this evening I’m going to put some dirt in an Aldi bag and see if using grow bags is as easy as the intertubez say.

I think she is too. Give her some cuddles for me, cats do grieve in their own way.

I do miss the good old days when we were rich enough to throw eggs at our enemies and their homes.

So I don’t want to risk losing my thread by bringing all of the colors so I need to get another block done so I can just work the ecru border tomorrow. I’ve never once lost my threads while traveling, but why risk it when i don’t have to?

So…I better get to stitching, those threads aren’t going to lay themselves.

Hoo, boy! My accountant/wife is still wrestling with our taxes. If you haven’t done yours yet, you’re in for an “interesting time.”

The weather folk are predicting rain and snow today. So far, it’s only rain.

Mrs. Nott’s latest estimate on our taxes has us getting a few hundred back from Sam, and we pay Indiana less than a hundred. Not bad.

Gotta go. Be well, be safe, and be You!

I got koritza one of those cattasaurus things. She loves it! I hope lager doesn’t notice it. He hogs things and upsets her.

Lager has many resting spots, koritza deserves one that is just hers.

I’m glad that she has an advocate like you in her corner. Most other people would have given up on her by now.

Most of my life, eggs were always on hand for a quick, cheap, easy meal. Now, they only meet two of those criteria.

Most of the time, I go for a fairly high protein breakfast, fresh veggies or fruit for a mid morning snack, a salad and yogurt for lunch and, during the irkweek, some homemade soup, stew or casserole. I usually also have ~4 oz of yogurt for an evening snack. On the weekends, my activity levels and various gnawin’ and cravin’s dictate my diet. I occasionally have a cookie or something as a treat, but don’t keep that kind of stuff around the house. My A1c tends to run 6.1-6.5 most of the time.

I trained a noob up front today. It was actually a good place to put her until all of her log ins are set up. She got to have some hands-on with phones, see some of the processes and get to know some of her cow-orkers.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!
