(Old) A Day Off in the MMP

Leftover chili colorado for dinner.

Wifey, RN said one of her patients is very ‘down’ because of Trump. I told her to tell him (the next time she sees him) ‘My husband’s head is going to explode.’ She did tell him that we’re writing letters and protesting.

So, not a sneaky ninja.

Do they sell boric acid where you live? It’s a white powder (here it’s at every hardware store and even some big box grocery stores, by the roach bait and mouse traps) and it’s basically poison to all insects.

To deal with ants, cut a plastic drinking straw into smaller pieces (approx. 4 cm or so) and mix a some boric acid powder into a spoonful or two of jam/jelly. (The person who told me this said they were told that mint works best.)

The jelly will become pastel colored and opaque.

Using a toothpick, scoop a bit of the mix into each end of the straw piece, then tape it … wherever you like.
Certainly on their trails, and basically wherever you commonly see them.
They take the poison bait back to the nest, and triumphantly feed it to their queen.

It takes a few weeks, but they WILL disappear, and you can tape the bait where kids/pets can’t reach.

Stoners are such creative engineers.

Today was brilliantly sunny, but COLD (the sunshine was a lie!).
However - and I swear I didn’t see any as recently as last weekend - there are daffodils exuberantly popping up in their random spots, and I saw a few hyacinth and crocus, too.

Got home long before dusk, so Monkey got some outside time and even a roll in some catnip I sprinkled on the driveway.

Worked a whopping hour anna half of overtime last week, but my paycheck was just a wee bit heftier - that was nice.

Last night’s vegetarian quiche (spinach and tomato, plus the requisite onion) was delishush, and disappeared rapidly.
I have enough left for tonight, although there’s plenty of the ingredients left to make another one … oh, wait, I’m out of tomato.

Well, still, I can conjure up something, and meantime, I need to use the stuff for another grape-apple-celery salad. The last one I made I swear, had just a whisper of chicken.
I’m mostly there for the dressing anyway - the balsamic really takes it over the top, and the red grapes I’ve gotten are light years from the sour, seed-filled red grapes of my youth.

More fruits and veggies in a few weeks than I usually consume over the course of months so go, me, bein’ all healthy and shit!

You can smoke your bunny and eat it too? Wow. Let the bunny hoarding begin!

My late Uncle Ray went into the USAF in 1950 and stayed in for 21 years. As kids, we used to go to the air shows at Wright-Patterson or Grissom AFB.

Hidy-ho, Mumpers. Nothing too exciting today, so I’m’a head to bed.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

Cranky night nurse approves~probably higher proof than what medics sterilize with. And you can always console yourself with a hefty swig when it’s all over.

I just entertained myself by contacting ICE to report an illegal alien for financial crimes and drug use.

I’m fairly sure that Mrs H still has a bottle of iodine somewhere in the medicine cabinet. I’ll bet the local 150 proof moonshine is much safer!

Or mecurachrome-dang that stuff stung!

Who, me? (I’m on my way to the dispo, you snitchin’ narc.)

Nah, I loves you. I just heard a rumor that ICE is having a DDOS attack caused by folks reporting the kk and thought I should join in.

Maybe you shouldn’t. Maybe I shouldn’t have either, but whats done is done so I’ll probably do it again tomorrow.

My burner phone still has almost three weeks left on it, why not annoy as many people as possible?

I live to be annoying!

And good evening to all. Soccer has been coached (sort of, keeping the kids attention for more that 5-6 seconds is impossible) and have Mac-and-cheesed myself along with some applesauce to a happy state of being. Made an appointment for Thursday for the annual eye exam, I suspect I’ll need new glasses so that is an expense to be considered. Otherwise a quite night is expected. Down to 46F now but due to hit 70F tomorrow.

Now it’s time to wade through the news of the day…

rocky, always nice to have the sun in the sky, even if the air is cold. And sorry to hear your clogs have bit the dust, hope new ones are readily available.

Cat Glove, hope it warms up for you soon. And good news on Hubs Dr. visit.

wet one, my thanks to you and all the others for your explanations. But I’m glad horses are more phlegmatic than humans, if I saw someone coming after my teeth with a power grinder…

JtC, hope Hubs sees reason and departs the house. And a chocolate bunny bong…I have never used maryjewanna, but that would be tempting…

FCM, yay for the upholstery arrival. And hope SIL is doing ok, falls hurt no matter the age (I see that he is, but bet he’ll be sore in spots all week).

OOpsie, hope things continue to proceed well.

VanGo, I was told it snowed in Northern Ohio the day I was born (coming up in a couple of weeks). Kinda glad I don’t have to see it again here in N. Ali-bama for another 10 months or so…

I’m working with 6-9 year olds on soccer. You have it easy…

I understood that reference…well done.

And that’s all for tonight. Will do my usual You Tubing for about an hour and then head off to bed. Catch up with y’all tomorrow.

We have the same reaction to the babies we see in uniform around here. When did the Navy start recruiting in day care centers?? Just get 'em off my lawn…

I didn’t do the dishes till after we watched Lynley and Vera, so the machine is sloshing away now. FCD has a Dr appt at 7:15 tomorrow and I’ll probably run to FoodLion while he’s there. Then home to stitch up the weather cloths.

And when he gets home, he’ll do a trash-n-recycle run. So we have that to look forward to. Meanwhile, sleepy-bye!

Brings a whole new meaning to “Your ass is grass.”

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave. It is currently 39 degrees Ferret Height(3.89 Centipedes).

Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 7c/45f with a predicted high of 14c/58f and partly cloudy. Weather app says “I’m sorry but the fucking sky can’t stand you today.” That’ll be why it’s sunny out there, right?

I can see everything getting blamed on that one!

Sadly money is all the president and Musk care about, and only theirs, not yours. They’ve never cared about ordinary people, the only time trump would remotely care about anyone is if they have money and support him with it.

It’s great when you have that lightbulb moment and everything comes together

I haven’t, he’s not a football fan so he wouldn’t have watched it anyway. On a similar note to your Torchwood story, 'im indoors is Scottish. Whenever I drive us up to Scotland, he has to open the window as soon as we pass the “Welcome to Scotland” sign on the motorway, so he can breathe proper fresh air!

I’m glad he got checked out but it’s a bit worrying that there are things that might be a bother later.

Yay! That sounds like positive news

Yesterday was a busy day, I irked all day as well as doing a load of laundry, then logged off irk and made campus food for the rest of the week. I tried to spend a bit of time talking to Muffin but she was having none of it. She decided instead to have a poo and a wee in the corner where she’s hiding. Fortunately she moved just enough that I could get the puppy pad out and dispose of that, and replace it with a clean one.

She was growling, hissing and spitting all the while, so I left her alone with the door shut for the evening. She had a plate of treats and a little bit of ham when I went to bed, and she was back to growling at me this morning while I freshened her supplies. I decided to move the cat bed out of the place I’d put it and have instead put a small litter tray there in the hopes that she’ll use that if it’s closer to her and doesn’t require her to cross to the opposite side of the room to find it.

I’ve found some food that she likes, which is a bonus as I was worried that she wasn’t eating enough. I will be seeing the lady from Little Paws on Saturday so will talk to her then, and see what else I might be able to do to help Muffin get over her distress.

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 48 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 72 and N.O.S. Today is provisions day, but we don’t need much. Thus I think we shall take care of that after the Wednesday doin’s over to the church house this evenin’. I foresee a quick in and out at the Food Kitty. Once OYKW is up and about I’ll see if he wants to go break fast at Jack’s. MetalMouse got me wantin’ to do so. I do not believe it will take any arm twistin’ on my part.

Now I need more caffeine. I will also purtify myself. Maybe hearin’ me in the bathroom will inspire OYKW to arise.

Happy Hump Day Y’all!

We have our home and car insurance through the same company. Our homeowners insurance increased something like 40% and I did a thorough investigation of other options and what we have is still the best.

And congratulations to your husband for the good news!

No, the yeast was ok. Part of the problem was that I was running out of patience and energy and didn’t let them rise long enough the second time around and also I forgot the 1/4c of sugar that was supposed to be in the mix as these were copycat Texas Roadhouse rolls. I’ve tried eating one with lots of butter and another with lots of butter and some honey, but neither was very good. I suppose I’ll have to try again or switch to the pepperoni bread that I had originally intended to make.

Today my mom and I are going to go investigate getting her a new phone and adding her to our plan. Her bill for just her phone which is 2-3 years old is about 1/2 of my bill for two newer smartphones and two Apple Watches. So, there should definitely be room for improvement.

He’s got a lot of health issues that I’m only vaguely familiar with - I don’t pry and he doesn’t share a lot. I do know it’s partially related to his diet - diabetes and lack of proper hydration come into play. But I will worry a bit next week when we’re all away. Sometimes I think he needs a keeper.

Not being snarky here - is there some kind of chill pill that she can be given? Of course, pilling her might be next to impossible anyway…

We’re with Consumer Cellular and we added MIL for a pittance, especially since she didn’t use any data at all. FWIW. They use AT&T’s network, which can be a bit spotty in places, but we’ve been mostly satisfied.

32-stoopit-degrees to start the day here going up to mid-50s. Near as I can tell from extended forecasts, this should be that last freezing temps we see till cold weather returns. So maybe when we get back from TN, my plants can finally go outside.

I had a really good sleep at last, till the stoopit alarm went off for FCD. He’s at the Dr right now and I need to gather the household trash and recycling for him to take when they open in 2 hours. I want to make a run to Food Lion since Coke products are on sale, as are chuck roast and green grapes (for the trip for Tobias.) The main chore for today is stitching up the weather cloths, after I fill a couple of bobbins.

There’s some roadwork going on along our street and the one along the side of our yard. I suspect it’s resurfacing, as the other road in our neighborhood got new asphalt a couple of years ago. There are lots of white symbols spray-painted on both roads - the only ones that make sense to us are what appear to be along the centerline. There’s been a grader and a porta-potty and one of those things with the rotating brush in front parked across the street from our house. It’ll be interesting to see what happens.

Meanwhile, onward! Happy Wednesday!!

Not snarky at all, I’ve been using a Feliway spray that has not been massively successful. I had a chat with the lady from Little Paws earlier and she said she can give me some Gabapentin to sprinkle on her food that might help calm her down a bit. I think she’ll be much better once she stops fighting all the time, relaxes a bit and realises that other people can be nice too

i’ve done the sit on the floor and read out loud in “the voice”. the one you use to read to wee kids. gentle and a bit sing songy.

i sit away from the cat (or dog) not facing them but perpendicular, so they can look, and i have them in sight, but not threating.

she may need more time with you where you are still and she can watch you. reading gives her a chance to hear your voice and gives you something to do while you while away 10-20 minutes.

muffin does have quite the tortitude!

I scored a chuck roast from the used meat pile - for $2.99/#!! The chuck on sale this week is $4.99! I cut it in half for 2 pot-roasts-for-two some time in the future. But despite that, 2 small bags of groceries plus 2 cases of coke cans and four 6-pack of bottles all came to $60!!! The yogurts that were 59¢ last week are 69¢ this week. A carton of 18 eggs was $7.19, but I didn’t need any so I didn’t buy any.

I feel so sorry for low wage-earners trying to feed a family. It’s ridiculous.

Work on the side rode has begun in earnest. They’re going along the shoulder, such as it is, and scraping away the old asphalt and all the weeds growing around and thru it. I saw one worker dragging a sharp tool that I think is marking how far the surfacing will go. They’ve also scraped the end of our driveway - I encountered a 2" drop as I was leaving - that got my attention! Wonder how long this project will take?
